Amazon Subscribe & Save is a great way to save money. If you subscribe to an item you can save 5%-20% off the regular price of the item.

With Pesach around the corner it’s important to check your upcoming subscriptions to make sure you’re not going to receive food items over the holiday.

When pushing off the delivery of an item it’s important to do so by changing the delivery date of your subscription rather than skipping the item from your order.

                                            Don’t press skip!

When you use the skip option it will move the item from this month’s subscription to next month’s subscription. However it will also cancel the original order you made and invalidate any coupons or sales that you took advantage of. You will pay the regular price when the item ships with your next order without any coupon savings.

Instead you should change the date of your subscription delivery by clicking on “Change delivery date” and selecting a new date. This preserves the sale price and coupons used in your original order.

Note that items often arrive several days before the schedule delivery day, so allow for time after Pesach when using this method.

Of course there are other reasons to change your date besides for Pesach.

You can keep pushing off a subscription delivery date until you have 5 items in your order. Once you have 5 items in your order you will retroactively save 15% on everything in that subscription delivery. Note that all 5 items must be shipped to the same address to get 15% off.

-You can choose the next available delivery day to expedite your order to ship as soon as possible and still save 5-20% off the items.

Here are some other Subscribe & Save tips:

Carefully manage your subscriptions here to be aware of any surprises.

When you subscribe to an item only because of a sale or coupon, be sure to cancel future subscriptions after you get the email that your item shipped. If you don’t cancel the item after it ships you’ll keep receiving it in future orders without coupons or sale pricing. The regular pricing at the time of the new shipment will apply for all subscriptions after your first subscription ships.

-Look for filler subscriptions to get to 5 items. With inexpensive filler items you can wind up saving more than the cost of the item. For example a Glade Air Freshener will be just $0.82, Suave Antiperspirant Deodorant will be just $1.18, Suave Skin Solutions Body Lotion will be just $1.23, and S. Ives Even & Bright Body Wash will be just $2.54 with 5 subscriptions, plus the price of your other subscriptions will drop as well!

-Add-on items that require a $25+ order will ship free when you subscribe to them when that option is available.

-Note that some items only offer 5% savings when you reach 5 items. For example this add-on Insertable Dividers will be $0.66 or this pack of 100 ballpoint pens will be $3.75 if you have 5 subscription items after 5% off.

-If you have Amazon Prime, don’t forget to signup for Amazon Family for free. Among other benefits it gives you 20% off all Diaper subscriptions and the diapers count towards the 5 subscription items to earn a 15% discount on everything else.

If you have Amazon Prime you can share Prime with another household member. Amazon coupons are typically limited to just one use per account, but with 2 accounts you can take advantage of coupons on each account. Just don’t forget to watch the subscriptions on both accounts!

Don’t forget that you can save even more if you have a Chase Ink Cash, Plus, or Bold card by buying Amazon gift cards from an office supply store. You’ll earn 5 point per dollar and those points can easily be redeemed for air travel or hotel stays that make this an effective 7.5-10% rebate on your Amazon purchases.

-Save even more with an Amazon Mover’s coupon!

Great article. So if I start a subscription with an item at a particular price (assuming no coupon but perhaps a good price), what is the price of the second (and future) deliveries of that item? Is it the same price I paid for the initial delivery or is it whatever price Amazon is selling the item for when the second delivery ships? How can one tell the price of upcoming deliveries? Thank you.

Pesach

In my layman’s opinion, the Pesach issue is not only a question of when the item arrives, it’s when Amazon executes the purchase transaction (i.e. when they ship the item). I would say that that’s when you own the item.

I thought earlier in this post you said that you preserve sale price and coupons by changing delivery date? So why would one have to cancel right away after first shipment he can just change delivery day to benefit from sale price and coupons for future deliveries:

Great read. One question: when I use s&s with an Amazon gift card I notice the gift card balance is immediately used. If I subsequently add enough item to qualify for the 15% discount, do they credit the balance back? How would that work

Jack out of the box

Dan, with this article you probably will save lots of people from seriously stumbling. יישר כוחך! (Maybe just put something in the subject line about Pesach so more people open it.)

Is there any way to move up the delivery date on my first order of a S & S item? Amazon told me on the phone that I can only change delivery dates after my first delivery. NE way around this?

Nikki

What?? I did not know that. That stinks – I have lost money on this little loophole 🙁

mileagejunkie

In the past changing my subscription to 30 or more days has had the same effect as “skip delivery” price wise so I would recommend pushing it off 29 days or less.

If you don’t have an Ink card, you can use a Chase Freedom card enrolled in the quarterly offer to buy Amazon cards at gas stations until the end of March.

Hello

Is s&s only for prime members, or anyone can use it?

MatzaBalls

Hi Dan,

Can you please explain how I can use my chase business to buy amazon gift cards at office stores to get 7-10% off. How does this work? I just got this card so I’m learning how to use it.

Daniela

Those 5 items that I subscribe, I have to keep at least one time?
Can I return them without loosing the lower price in the item I want to keep?

ljderm

Please consider updating the links in this very informative post. Many items have far different pricing (the filler items).
Thanks

Dan/jj it’ll be helpful if you post this again now that Pesach is almost here. (And perhaps with any relevant updates.) As always, thanks for the great stuff, and easy pesach preparations! 🙂

Ash

I accidentally clicked too fast and hit skip so now its gone and I have no idea how to bring the item back, help?

Sue Sidwell

I skipped an item and almost immediately changed my mind. How do I undo the skip?
