AMEX has sent me the following message to share with DansDeals readers,
“Due to the impact of COVID-19, for eligible Card accounts approved from December 1, 2019 through May 31, 2020 for which you are eligible for a welcome offer, the period to make eligible purchases to earn your welcome bonus will be extended for an additional 3 months. Eligible Cards are U.S. Consumer and Business Cards issued by American Express National Bank to a Basic Card Member.”
I’ve heard that several banks were giving extensions if you asked for one, but it’s great to see this policy applied automatically for everyone on both recently opened and new accounts!

No, it’s for new cards only.
Of course you can call and ask about getting an extension for other offers.

What about the capital one 50k spend?
Capital One extended my 5k and additional 45k spend to 12/31/20. For me, that’s an extra 5 and 8 months! My 5k was going to expire 4/27.

Called up customer service on back of card. They told me they would escalate(?) it to Rewards department. They called me back 2 days later with the good news. I missed the call so I called them back. The # they gave me to call back on was (800)955-7070 – waited less than 3 minutes in midday.
I have a second CapOne Spark card that I called to extend bonus spend deadline. For that card as well, I was given until 12/31/20 to meet spend
