Update, 5/20/25 at 7pm: United has extended their flight cancellations in GDS through 6/1. The status of their flights between 6/2-6/12 remains unclear. The airline previously told DansDeals and other media outlets that they would be canceled, but the airline writes on JetStream that they are zeroed out, but not yet canceled.
ITA Airways confirmed that they will extend their cancellations through 6/8.
Delta flight 234 is en route to Tel Aviv, beating out nearly all major foreign carriers in returning to Tel Aviv.

Aegean has pushed off their return until 5/21, Air France’s next flight for sale is now 5/25, Air Baltic and Air India, and LOT have extended their cancellations. Air Seychelles won’t fly to Israel through July. Ryanair may end service to Israel. United has made multiple conflicting statements about their cancellations.
Update, 5/15/25: Wizz Air has resumed flights. Lufthansa Group has pushed off their next flights for sale to June 9th and cancelled flights through May 25th. ITA has cancelled flights through May 25th.
Update, 5/14/25: Wizz Air says it will resume flights to Tel Aviv on May 15th. Aegean says it will resume flights on the evening of May 18th. Lufthansa Group has pushed off their next flights for sale to June 2nd, without officially canceling flights past May 18th yet. Ryanair has canceled flights through June 4th. EasyJet has canceled flights through June 30th.
Update, 5/13/25: Air Canada is pushing back their scheduled service resumption date from June 8th to September 9th. Emirates announced they will push back their scheduled service resumption date from October 3rd to April 1st, 2026. Lufthansa Group, LOT, and other airlines have also pushed back their next available flight dates.
Update, 5/12/25: United is no longer selling flights from Newark to Tel Aviv until June 13th.
We reached out to United asking if flights through June 12th would be canceled, and United confirmed to DansDeals that,
“We are canceling our twice-daily service between Newark and Tel Aviv through June 12. We continue to closely monitor the situation and will make decisions on resuming service with a focus on the safety of our customers and crews.”
Expect those flights to be officially cancelled over the coming days. United currently has a waiver for flights through 5/23. For flights after that, you’ll have to wait for them to officially cancel the flights.
You can rebook United travel to Athens, though you will have to buy your own ticket from Athens to Tel Aviv. Some readers report United calling them about cancellations and being offered accommodations on other airlines to Tel Aviv, but that department only makes outbound calls and doesn’t accept calls. You can try waiting for them, though not everyone gets a call, and other flight options may disappear in the meantime…
Several route cancellations have been updated below. Air Europa has resumed service to Tel Aviv. Emirates has now suspended flights to Tel Aviv indefinitely.

El Al is offering discounted flights from Larnaca to Tel Aviv for $99 and Athens for $149.
United has canceled flights through 5/8 from Newark and through 5/9 from Tel Aviv. They provided the following statement to DansDeals,
“We have canceled our twice-daily service between Newark and Tel Aviv while we closely monitor the situation. We will make decisions on resuming service with a focus on the safety of our customers and crew.”
Update, 4/28/25: Turkish and Pegasus Airlines will relinquish their slots for landing and takeoff rights in Tel Aviv. While Ben Gurion isn’t slot-constrained like JFK or London Heathrow, the airlines spent years building up a portfolio with ideal flight times. Generally, airlines have to use these slots or else they lose them, and they are distributed to other airlines.
Turkish flew between 10-16 daily flights between Istanbul and Tel Aviv, making them one of the largest airlines to fly to Israel. While Turkish and Pegasus haven’t yet announced a route cancellation, they clearly are not anticipating a return anytime soon.
Other airlines with indefinite suspensions include American, Air Serbia, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Icelandair, Royal Jordanian, TAP, and Vueling.
Virgin Atlantic is the first airline to announce it will not return to Israel post-10/7.
Update, 2/20/25: Air Canada announced today that they will resume service to Israel on June 8th. Initially, they will fly 4 weekly nonstop between Toronto and Tel Aviv, and in August, they will add a weekly nonstop between Montreal and Tel Aviv on August 6th.
The airline is still selling flights from May 1st, but those will be canceled with passengers rebooked on other airlines or offered a refund.
“Air Canada continues to closely monitor the situation in the region. It will continue to do so leading up to and after the return of service and, for the safety and well-being of its customers and crews, may adjust its schedule should security and safety protocols require. As market and other conditions warrant, it intends to further increase service with more frequencies in the future.”
This leaves American as the sole North American carrier without a Tel Aviv return plan.

Update, 2/4/25: As we predicted when Delta announced an April 1st return to Israel, United was sure to beat them in returning to Israel.
United will resume nonstop service to Tel Aviv on March 15th on the 787-10 Dreamliner. The airline last flew to Tel Aviv on July 31, 2024.
Globes previously reported a February 22 and then a March 18 return date, which were widely reported in the media, but those dates were never confirmed by United and turned out to be inaccurate.
United says in its press release that, “This resumption follows a detailed assessment of operational considerations for the region and close work with the unions who represent our flight attendants and pilots.”
Crew issues have been thought to be responsible for United’s extended absence from the country.
United also notes in the press release that they will be the first US airline to return to Israel this year, beating Delta’s return by 2 weeks.
UA84, the afternoon departure from Newark to Tel Aviv resumes 3/15. UA85, the morning departure from Tel Aviv to Newark resumes 3/16. UA90, the late evening departure from Newark to Tel Aviv resumes 3/29. UA91, the late evening departure from Tel Aviv to Newark resumes 3/30.
United says it will resume its Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington DC service to Tel Aviv when demand warrants it.
There is still no word from American on when or whether it will resume Israel service. They last flew to Tel Aviv on 10/6/23.
Update, 2/2/25: Air France, Austrian, Brussels, Eurowings, ITA, Lufthansa, Swiss, and Transavia have resumed service to Tel Aviv. Air Baltic and Vueling have pushed back their return dates. Routes and dates have been updated below.
We reached out to United after a Globes report last month said that United was looking to return to Israel on 2/22, but United responded to DansDeals that, “Our flights to Tel Aviv remain suspended at this time.”
We reached out again to United after a Globes report today said that United is now planning to return to Israel on 3/18, but United once again responded to DansDeals that, “Our flights to Tel Aviv remain suspended at this time.”
United hasn’t sold any tickets to Israel since 8/8/24.
We also reached out to Iberia about a return date, and they responded that, “Our flights are cancelled until March 29 and, until then, we will continue to monitor how the situation and demand evolves.”
Update, 1/23/25: Delta confirms to DansDeals that they will resume nonstop service between JFK and Tel Aviv on April 1st. The airline last flew to Israel on 7/30/24.
Here is Delta’s statement provided to DansDeals:
“Delta will restart daily nonstop service to Tel Aviv (TLV) from New York-JFK on April 1, utilizing its Airbus A330-900neo to provide customers with nearly 2,000 weekly seats.
Delta’s decision to resume service follows a comprehensive security review, conducted in close coordination with government and private-sector partners. The airline continues to prioritize the safety of its customers and crews and has implemented additional precautions for operations to and from Tel Aviv.
Additionally, Delta has bolstered its presence in Israel through a codeshare agreement with EL AL Israel Airlines. This partnership enables Delta customers to book EL AL’s nonstop flights to Tel Aviv from major U.S. cities such as New York-JFK, Newark, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale.
With the reinstatement of Delta’s New York-JFK service, customers now have greater flexibility and travel options between North America and Israel, supported by Delta’s award-winning service and modern fleet.”

Update, 1/22/25: With most European airlines confirming return dates, we reached out to North American carriers to see if they had any comment on their return dates. Here is what the North American airlines told us:
American: “American continuously evaluates its network and we have nothing new to share at this time regarding Tel Aviv service.”
Air Canada: No reponse.
Delta: “At the moment, we don’t have an update to share. We’re monitoring the evolving security environment and assessing our operations based on security guidance and intelligence reports.”
United: “Our flights to Tel Aviv remain suspended at this time.”
American is unique in that it won’t even sell tickets to Israel on partner airlines that have confirmed they will return to Israel.
Ted Cruz predicted to Bari Weiss that US airlines will return to Israel within 30 days of President Trump’s inauguration. A return before the end of February seems quite unlikely to me.

Update, 1/21/25: Air France confirms with DansDeals that they plan to resume Paris/CDG-Tel Aviv flights on January 25th and that subsidiary Transavia France plans to resume Paris/ORY-Tel Aviv flights on January 28th:
“Air France plans to resume its services between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Tel Aviv from January 25th, 2025, with initially 5 weekly flights. The company will gradually resume its usual flight schedule with 7 flights a week to this destination, operated by Airbus A350-900. This resumption and the continuation of operations will remain subject to a regular assessment of the situation on site.
Air France reiterates that the safety of its customers and crews is its top priority. The company is constantly monitoring the geopolitical situation in the areas served and flown over by its aircraft, to ensure the highest level of flight safety.
Transavia France, the low-cost subsidiary of the Air France-KLM plans to resume its services between Paris-Orly and Tel Aviv on January 28, 2025, with initially 3 weekly flights. The airline will then progressively increase its frequencies, to reach up to 7 weekly flights.”

Update, 11/7: Air France has now canceled flights through 11/26, and the next available flight for purchase is 12/4. Expect this to be extended further.
Update, 11/7: Air Europa 1301 was en-route from Madrid to Tel Aviv when a rocket hit the grounds of Ben Gurion Airport yesterday. The flight diverted to Rome and returned to Madrid over 8 hours after it departed the airport. The airline won’t return to Israel until 12/1 at the earliest. Air Europa had been one of the few European airlines flying to Israel this month.
Iberia has also pushed back their return to Israel from 12/1/24 to 2/1/25.
Update, 11/4: Air France and LOT have pushed back their next available flights to Israel. Dates have been updated below.
Update, 11/3: We reached out to American yesterday and the airline has now provided this statement to DansDeals regarding stopping sales of flights to Israel,
“American has suspended operations to and from Tel Aviv. To provide customers with certainty when planning travel to Tel Aviv, we are expanding our travel alert to allow customers whose travel plans are impacted to rebook their itinerary for travel involving a partner airline or cancel for a refund.”
The airline last flew to Israel on 10/6/23.
American’s and United’s flights to Israel are now suspended indefinitely. Air Canada and Delta plan on returning to Israel on April 1st, 2025, meaning that El Al will continue to be the sole operator of nonstop commercial flights between North America and Israel for the foreseeable future.
Update, 11/3: American and Emirates have stopped selling flights to Tel Aviv. We have reached out to both airlines for comment and will update this post if they respond. KLM, LOT, and more airlines have pushed back their planned return flights to Israel. Dates have been updated below.

BA provided this statement to DansDeals:
“We’ve suspended our flights to Tel Aviv out to the end of March next year.
This will give greater certainty to our customers who we’re contacting to advise them of their options, including a full refund.”
BA has been very good about rebooking passengers onto El Al, when flights are available.
In response, Israir announced plans to fly 4-5 weekly flights between London/LTN and Tel Aviv starting 11/17 and Arkia is now flying twice weekly between Manchester and Tel Aviv.

Following the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s recommendation that airlines suspend service to Israel and Lebanon until 10/31, many airlines have suspended their flights to Israel. I’d expect more suspensions to match these recommendations.

I have a flight with Virgin Atlantic from TLV to LHR on Oct 9. It is the day that Virgin Atlantic is supposed to start flying again. Should I assume that they’ll follow the recommendation and cancel? I would like to figure out alternate arrangements but only if I can get refunded.

As I have experience with the Emirates-Aegean Flight, very likely that aegean will cancel and at the LAST MINUTE since they do rolling out cancellations. You should look for an Elal flight to athens as they can be cheap (144 USD one way) if there is availabilty….

I had a round trip flight in prem econ with Virgin Atlantic from TLV-JFK booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards using points. It was cancelled. After spending hours on the phone with Chase, they were able to rebook me on an El Al flight from TLV-JFK in prem econ and for my return flight they booked me on a flight from JFK-FLL-TLV in prem econ. The first leg of the return flight is operated by Delta and an extra legroom seat. The outbound flight is 6 days later than my original flight and the return flight is 5 days later than my original flight. I hope this helps!

My daughter and friend were supposed to fly from DC on ITA to TLV with a short stopover in Rome 10/9 . It was cancelled and they didn’t can take up to 2 months for a refund. We rebooked them to fly Emirates to Dubai and on Expedia Elal to TLV and then 10/27 Arkia to Dubai with a return on Emirates. (That whole thing. Was cheaper than ITA). Yesterday the Arkia flight was delayed over 2 hours and they couldn’t get on the Emirates flight to DC. (Have to get luggage and go thru security again etc) . Thank Gd the girls were with adults on this leg of the trip. They got Emirates to Boston 7 hours later and then a flight today from BOS to BWI. Costing an extra $700! Whole thing was nuts and wondering how we could have done this better

After speaking to AA yesterday bec my flight on March 31st was canceled, they said they don’t have any more direct flights on schedule to TLV, i checked google flights till end of Sept of 2026 and AA is no longer a option to book
I booked Aegean TLV-ATH that they canceled. To their credit, the refund came very quickly. In its place, I booked Israir for a very reasonable price, around $100.
Just as an FYI, which I hope will help some travelers. I am booked on elal 28 from Newark 11/10. Even though there shows no availability for this flight anywhere, when I look to change my seat, it shows 29 open seats on the flight.

Given how few airlines are currently serving Israel from anywhere (even places outside North America), it would be great if the article could have pinned to the top a list of all Airlines currently flying to Israel.
Under normal times, it probably wouldn’t be practical to create such a list, but I suspect nowadays the number of airlines flying to Israel can be counted on the fingers of one hand.
I have 4 tickets on BA – TLV-LHR-JFK – for Apr 1 (first leg of the round trip ticket). As of now, they cancelled flights from TLV until Mar 30. The tickets were sold as non-refundable. Just had Delta Change my flight from JFK-CDG-TLV to JFK-ATH and then I had to buy a separate ticket for ATH-TLV wasn’t offered any sort of refund or compensation even though they physically couldn’t get mw e to Israel.
I had a direct Delta flight from JFK to TLV and Delta changed it to an El Al codeshare.
They changed my return to Elal but on the way there they told me there weren’t any seats available.

So i had flights for Pesach on aa.com on miles – at 30K direct. (I knew they would cancel, and actually booked el al via your jetblue hack). AA didn’t email me, but reservations cancelled (showed up flight credit section).

Guys, stop harassing airlines for compensation, re booking , DOT. Airlines are tired of it. They will not renew Israel flights exactly bc of that. Article on y net. They can’t afford all requests for “rebook me elal “, compensate me. They can not . So book with what’s available, or if you take a chance pls do not harass airlines , or they will not be available in the future for TLV. We all lose .

Had our post-pesach flights back to miami cancelled… Virgin still has not come up with rebooking options (one would think they would have had that pretty much figured out before they cancel flights that are 5+ months out). I spoke with Virgin agents both yesterday after seeing this post and today after getting the cancellation email, and they said they can’t do anything until Virgin issues its rebooking policy for these cancellations. Anyone have insight on if they can/will rebook premium class tix on elal business? Anything I can/should do now – or do I need to just wait for them to figure things out?

Dan I think you should make it clear, that Aegean cancelled and then re-scheduled December. It means that people who orignally had booked for flights, which got cancelled were NOT automatically put back on. In fact I know of a case of someone being refused to be put back on as the new fight is not availabe as a connection. Whatever that means
I have an ITA ticket for the end of Jan (as per above, scheduled to start on Jan 13). So far, they changed my return flight from TLV to FCO to later in the day, but my flight from FCO to JFK is still scheduled for the morning (which would be impossible). I called up Chase to see about changing it and they spoke to ITA. ITA told them to wait until the end of this week to change or cancel, as they will know more about the flights and whether they will be cancelled completely. They may or may not offer other options.
ITA just cancelled completely and offered to rebook for after Feb 1 or refund. They are not allowing transfers to partner airlines (like Air France, which has flights with El Al as the 2nd leg) unless I pay the fare difference.

Hi, my wifes passport expires Nov. 25. Would she be Ok flying to Israel on elal and back in June?
Many countries, including Israel, require that your passport be valid for at least six months from the date of travel…so no, she would not be okay with a passport expiring on November 25. Israel has a new visa requirement which requires registration in advance (free if done before January) through its new ETA-IL (Electronic Travel Authorization) program. Your wife could try completing that now with her existing passport and travel dates, but I doubt it will work… Turnaround times for U.S. passport renewals are on the quicker side now and you could always use the expedited service options and have the passport renewed within a couple of weeks…

They will likely be canceled, but aren’t formally canceled. That way, they can hold onto your money for longer or possibly make a last-minute decision to resume service earlier.

Quick review of HiSky from JFK to TLV. There is officially a long layover in Bucharest but the flights to and from there are usually delayed by a few hours, so you end up waiting in JFK or TLV instead.
No issues at all with coach class seat or kosher meals (return flight meal is from Antwerp).
They do not participate in TSA Precheck so you have to use the regular security line at JFK. There is no order for boarding the plane, they just line you up and you get on board. In Bucharest you need a bus to and from the plane to the terminal.
They officially limit you to either a carry on or a personal item, but not both, depending on the ticket you buy but this was not enforced meaning the overhead bins filled up.
From NYC to TLV my luggage was checked all the way through, but for the return trip the agent at TLV was unable to check the luggage straight to JFK on their computer system so I had to claim it in Bucharest and recheck it. It wasn’t a big deal, especially with the long layover.
If you are somehow on time on your flight from JFK and you have a layover (which is in the morning hours) you can visit two different shuls during your layover in Bucharest, each has a weekday morning minyan (one is Ashkenaz, one is Chabad). These are historic shuls that survived the Nazis. There is a train station in the Bucharest airport to access the city.
If the price is right and you don’t mind the layover, it’s not a bad way to go.

My BA flight on Apr 1 was just cancelled – so it looks like they are now cancelling the rest of the flights until their new start date.
A few days ago my British Airways flight on April 10th was canceled, with no rebooking option other than refund. We had booked connecting flights for Pesach, departing JFK April 9th and connecting through Heathrow on April 10th. The Heathrow to Tel Aviv flight was canceled, so not sure I understand their confirmation of resumption of flights on April 4th

If they do cancel, they will re-book you onto Elal as they’ve been doing until now.
If all elal flights to London are full, they can put you Elal to somewhere in Europe and then connect on one booking onto BA to LHR.

@dan I’m trying to add my El Al Matmid number to a Delta reservation I tried a bunch of times with and without the last digit and its still not working. I called and spoke to a few different agents and to a supervisor and none of them were able to do it, the only thing they recommended was to try in the airport.

After all DELTA has been the first one to resume, lets see what will happen with UNITED as I’m expecting them to resume and announce a RESUMPTION before AMERICAN, but its ok to note that last year July UNITED did actually did hold a return DATE before DELTA and when DELTA announced return UNITED jumped with their one day earlier return.

Very interesting schedule for the Delta flights. Apparently, they don’t want to be on the gerund in Israel for too long. Daily departure from JFK each day is 3:40 pm, arriving 9:35 am, and the departure from TLV is 11:35 am. Not an ideal schedule, particularly on the return flight.

Your going to have to fight a lot for it, I booked ElAl/Virgin with chase points, and wanted a partial refund for return leg, after fighting enough they offered a travel credit with a lot of restrictions – Same traveller, departing from Tlv to anywhere in the U.S. and expires 1 year after first departure flight.
We had a flight to Tlv on Brussels in 2 weeks. They called me 3 days ago to change us to Lufhansa, saying that won’t be flying to Israel then.

Flyingblu (air France & KLM) can’t sell any delta flight so I not sure if the flight you want will cam up on the system ever
Although I have Gold status and quite a few miles with United I would be afraid to fly with them to Israel. Despite claims about how hard it is to arrange aircraft and flight crew scheduling they were able to stop flying at the drop of a hat without giving any notice leaving many people stranded and now they seem to be able to resume their flights relatively quickly. El Al is not that much more expensive and I consider the small price difference insurance that I will not have to scramble and pay much more for my return.

Given the Canadian Government didnt change parties during the election, I am doubtful that Global Affairs Canada will change their travel warning to Israel for Canadians, and therefore, I suspect Air Canada will delay service (again).

Their employees are safe, they took off and landed okay after the incident. Many will fly with them to save a dime. Teach them a lesson. Boycott.
For the dates I chose, it was a lot more than a dime ($600+ per ticket difference). We usually travel to Israel in the winter months when the airfare is more affordable. To have a chance to travel to Israel this time of year within my budget constraints is hard to pass up.

Delta cancelled. Delta rebooked on El Al, similar dates. They claim to be limited in seats El Al avails to them. It was not easy getting them to do it.

Earliest indication, no flight available until then when you try to book. Has been best earliest indication always.
It’s a good early indication when you are talking about a flight for 2-3 months out, but if the flight is for 2 days time, were they to have already confirmed that its cancelled, they would already mark it as cancelled.
The earlier they cancel the cheaper for them.
@Chaim is incorrectly taking this from the fact, that they aren’t selling new tickets until 13th.
This doesn’t mean they have confirmed cancelled, it either means the flights are all sold out, or that they don’t want to sell to new passengers as the RISK of them having to cancel and having to fork out more money to provide alternative flights, as required by UK and European law.
On the timetable, Wednesday 7th is still operational.

delta cancelled my our guests flight from jfk to tlv tomorrow. rebooking is a very lengthy process and they try to push connections via Europe. getting them to book another delta direct flight is not too hard but i was doing the leg work for them. they are even willing to do elal flights but only about 10 days after the original flight

Just experienced a wild 24 hours of dealing with Delta but with a happy ending. Had a JFK-TLC Delta flight on May 11 for my mom. Being realistic that Delta is not going to resume flights for the foreseeable future and also proactive about changing it to El Al, I reached out to Delta earlier today. By then, all NYC-TLV direct flights were already sold out for that day and for the next day. Delta was able to put her on a flight Saturday evening EWR to Boston and then a redeye BOS-TLV to get to TLV Sunday morning. I made the silly mistake of texting delta and asking them to change her origin flight from EWR to LGA/JFK because EWR had been an absolute sh*t show recently but the messaging agent, while trying to rebook, lost the BOS-TLV flight (El Al is basically pulling them away from Delta so they can sell the tickets themselves). REMINDER TO NOT TEXT DELTA ONLY CALL. I called Delta to have them fix the issue and the rep was able to get her on a flight for Tuesday: JFK-CDG with AF and CDG-TLV with El Al, but since she HAS to be in Tel Aviv by Tuesday for reasons I cannot elaborate, that wasn’t good. I asked for the supervisor who told me that it has been a challenging day for them because El Al is pulling most of the inventory but after I explained to him what’s going on he was able to personally reach out to El Al and they switched the flights for Sunday via Boston instead.
My tip for anyone flying Delta:
1. Delta is probably going to cancel flights for the coming weeks (based on past precedents), be proactive, do not wait for them to cancel and rebook you.
2. Call, do not text
3. Escalate if needed, they can reach out to El Al directly
4 and most important: BE NICE AND COURTEOUS. It’s not the agents’ fault that the Houthis launched the missile or that there are glitches in the Delta-El Al system. It’s challenging but it works out eventually.

Yes, I booked backup refundable roundtrip through Delta on ELAL flights. I am flying in for siblings wedding so not taking any chances. United told me that although they cannot guarantee, the emplyees were told that flights from the 19th are operational, and as of now not planning to cancel. He offered me flights on Lufthansa, but I don’t see that it’s worth any more.

Whats with arkia from tlv are they flying normal?
They are stopping in Greece (even though the flights are sold as nonstop). It seems they’re not informing customers until a few hours before the flight time and they’re moving passengers to 2 smaller planes to bring them to TLV. There’s no indication of how long the layover will take and flight departure times are changing drastically.

United still has not cancelled my flight from EWR on 5/18. I booked with points and when I called they said if I change flights before officially cancelled, I will need to pay the difference in tickets. I have called a few times and each time they tell me they have not officially cancelled 5/18 yet, meanwhile a few sites are reporting flights are cancelled at least through 5/18 by now. Does it just take time to update the system?

I had a trip on 5/14 with United that I charged on my United card that was cancelled. I booked my airbnb on Amex Bonvoy Brilliant. United (says they) will refund me. Amex says I had to also book my airfare on Amex, and if I had, they would’ve covered my airbnb. BH, the israeli hosts refunded me, even though the refund timeline had passed for my reservation.

@Dan is correct. (Obviously…) After speaking to travel claims companies, they said airlines don’t really follow Israeli avation law, only DOT and EU laws. DOT doesn’t cover these situations, so only flights going in or out of Europe have a good chance at compensation.
I got a court decision that UA has to pay for cancelled Aug. 2024 flights for what I rebooked and ~$1k compensation per pax, working on getting it through collection.
Not the kinda game for those without patients but eventually pays and other airlines are easier to deal with and pay nicely

No lawyer, just small claims court, might have been smarter to use a lawyer though but I know about other cases being easier despite not having a lawyer. UA is a tough cookie so they didn’t even respond and I am going to use collection which is different (easier) in IL
Check out the Israeli law to know your rights first, they also amended the law to exclude retroactively (!) specific dates so make sure first.
United should pause the New York flight to TLV and resume ORD-TLV instead or any other city with a hub. That way they will still have direct flights from US to Israel without having to deal with the Newark headache. Its a WIN-WIN.
I recently posted that I do not understand why United is still keeping the Newark flights while not having flights from Washington or Chicago.
@dansdeals, Wizz Air Update: I had a flight booked from Milan (MXP) to Tel Aviv (TLV) for May 15, 2025. After learning Wizz Air canceled all flights to TLV until May 11 due to security concerns, I contacted them via app chat to confirm if my flight was guaranteed. They said they couldn’t guarantee it and would need to evaluate closer to the date. With only a few days left, I requested a cancellation with the fee waived (it was higher than the ticket cost!). Minutes later, they offered a full refund or credit, and I chose the full refund. Relieved but frustrated— any airline shouldn’t leave passengers hanging like this.

small tip for all those struggling to get rebooked with LY, search DL site for the relevant flight, and ask the DL rep for that flight using the DL flight number and full departure and arrival details e.g. “Can you please rebook me on DL 7446 departing from TLV at 5:55 AM and landing in JFK at 10:45 AM?”

We had a direct flight on the 20 to TLV and we called twice trying to change it to Athens. Both times we were told that there was no waiver for that date. After the second call I was in the United App and the Waiver was just posted and we switched to Athens no charge.

It’s really annoying that United doesn’t officially cancel a flight, nor does it post anything about the waiver, but if you look at cancelling, they are offering a full refund, which means some part of the system knows the flight is cancelled.

Our flight from Newark to TLV on May 21 is not officially canceled. We have talked to United reps, quoted what you have said about United flights to Israel and they still say the flight not canceled for May 21. Do we have any recourse? 1K (one-kay) is United’s second-highest frequent flyer level. You get to speak with intelligent agents empowered to fix problems. I suggest calling United’s regular number and telling them friends with 1K status have already been contacted by United to advise of their TLV service cancelation through mid-June. Dan is terrific but the random United agent sitting in India or wherever is more likely to trust their 1K desk as a source. If you’ve got extra time to travel, consider flying United to Dubai (DXB). It’s a long flight but United fares are reasonable. FlyDubai runs 8 flights daily between DXB and TLV and (IMO) is one of the airlines least likely to cancel service. Hatzlacha Rabba!

I booked United direct for TLV for the 25th called up Monday night to see what my options are they told me they can route me to Athens but once I get to Athens I am on my own. I told the rep let me see what my options are if I take that option can you hold the reservation and I’ll call back to United in 30 min to then confirm if I want to take that option. She said ok hung up and the rep just transferred me to Athens. Called back saying I never I authorized this and the new rep said I see let me get you back on the original flight attempted to put me back on the original flight to no avail on phone since yesterday with Amex and United to fix this headache in interim booked Arkia just got the confirmation this morning from them need to deal with this headache once United officially cancels the Tlv flight as per Amex and United or I can cancel via United portal and deal with the back and forth

So Amex has taken notes and confirmed with United this past Saturday night that I will be getting a refund within 7-10 business days. I also called Amex today to see what’s going on with this as I am receiving emails from United regarding the flight to Athens as it’s still on, the rep has said that he sees the notes that the rep from United confirmed they will refund the amount but to call back on Wednesday as the Amex rep that handled this will be in then. BH everything will be good.
Seems like UA might still fly direct based on the recent updates.

They keep on cancelling always 2 days before, till today they said they will fly the 16th, today they say the 18th, I assume they will say the 18th that it’s cancelled till the 18th.
Not reliable, have a 19th flight with them, not sure what to do as they won’t refund yet but don’t want to have double booking with other airline..

That is because they issued a travel waiver through May 25th. It said that from the very beginning. They still have not cancelled past the 19th yet:

Interesting, my Delta flight on the 21st TLV-JFK is still on, but I don’t see a flight on the 20th JFK-TLV. Is that a ominious sign?
Hey Dan- trying to book a ticket NYC>TLV for mid June (after ElAl’s 6/7 ‘grace’ period). Would you wait until the other major carriers announce resumption of flights in the next few days -would all prices come down in tandem? Or unlikely OR too hard to tell?

United just cancelled flight for May 27… I guess they’re not starting before June 1st as posted on the United Jetstream website.
I just got a text message from United that they cancelled my return from TLV to EWR on 5/27…
So as of now they ain’t flying this coming weekend…
Chase ultimate rewards said that even if cancelled, I still need to call them 24 hours before flight and officially cancel thru Chase or they won’t get the internal waivers to get the mileage refunds .. makes sense!!
I have a flight EWR to TLV on May 26th. The day that Dan posted United flights are cancelled, I called and pleaded to be put on a different flight. They offered to put me on flight to Athens but from there I would need to manage myself. I pushed them and said I don’t want to self transfer, requested a supervisor and eventually she got me on an Agean flight. And didn’t make me pay extra. Now I’m just nervous that Agean won’t fly because they keep on pushing flights off the day before. Any way I can book Arkia or Israir refundable ticket so that I can have some insurance in case Agean cancels?
Do Arkia and Israir and Bluebird etc even offer fully refundable fares?

I have a delta ticket booked from TLV to JFK for this week, but the return is through Air France on May 28th. Do you think I can take the risk hoping AF will fly back to TLV? I don’t want to be stuck in America for Shavuos. What is the likelihood that AF will also push off their starting date to fly?

This has nothing to do with EWR issues.
They’ll drop flights to Asheville, Bangor, Buffalo, Burlington, Greensboro, Greenville, Nantucket, Rochester, or Syracuse if they need to free a slot to fly to Tel Aviv.
Valid point.
The question is whether they will consider TLV too volatile of a destination to be worth interrupting a regular flight if they are forced to cancel so many minor routes that are necessary to their regular hub based model.
That being said, I pay minimal attention to how the airlines operate and certainly to the economics behind it.
You on the other hand have had your finger on the pulse of the airlines for as far back as I can remember.
I will take inspiration from you and hope that my TLV-EWR flights in August may actually fly.

If FCO is your final destination, then EC261 regulation applies which requires airline to provide (costs) of flights with another airline with a stop or whatever is available. Just don’t accept refund, and then claim

Strange, yesterday KLM’s travel alerts page said they were cancelling through June 14 or so (don’t remember exactly). Looked just now and it’s back to stating cancellation through May 30 and resuming on the 31st like it’s been for a while. I wonder if someone there messed up in the CMS?
