Amazing how these machines are getting cheaper by the day. A year ago an i7 was over thousand bucks.

Yup, that’s the nature of the beast.

Hard to believe that this was ever a deal: http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/852

Only downside to this laptop is that unlike Dell, HP does not make Windows 7 drivers for their Windows 8 laptops. So you can’t uninstall windows 8 and put on windows 7.

DH

Many of Dell’s Home machines (like this HP) don’t have Windows 7 Drivers either. Its very easy to get the Windows 7 drivers for almost any Windows 8 Machine using programs like 3DPChip and some others. Technically the hardware is the same – and the hardware manufacturers still make the drivers. You can always get the Chipset, USB 3.0 and Graphics Drivers from Intel and the rest shouldn’t take too much work…

Leib

As a professional computer fixer and geek and whatnot, I can tell you that HP and Dell are the easiest to down(or Up)grade to WIN 7. Most drivers are in fact compatible. Acer and Lenovo on the other hand…..

Optical drive?

DH

@ Leib – Mr Professional computer fixer and whatnot – Use 3DP Chip and it takes a bout 5 minutes to install all the drivers 90% of the time, no matter what company. I’ve done hundreds of computers without this as well especially back in the Windows Vista downgrade to XP fiasco, when it took some skill to find all the proper drivers, but these days downgrading and finding drivers are really simple

Jason Smith

I think the point is that most people buying a computer and want to downgrade to Windows 7 want to be sure that it can be done, not 90% sure. The only sure way is for the manufacturer to have the drivers on their website. This HP does not, so if you are buying it to downgrade, buy at your own risk.

Seems dead!!!!!!
