Today Only! Donate Money To Any Charity With Your Credit Card And They Won’t Pay Any Processing Fees!

Update: I just sent through the entire process myself, sending the gift card to my wife via email and having her donate it to a charity and it worked without a hitch!
——————————————————————
You can find a short summary of this post in comment #2.

You must go through the Gift Card option as described below.  Direct donations are still subject to the 4.5% fee.
————————————————————–
JustGive.org is running a promotion until midnight tonight for fee-free Charity Gift Cards.

This is a wonderful opportunity as it means you can get miles or meet spending thresholds while giving charity at no cost to you or the charity!

The intention is that “Person A” will buy a gift card for “Person B” and “Person B” will then give it to a charity of their choosing.

“Person A” gets a full tax deductible receipt right away.

Normally there is a 4.5% fee for the charity. However today only you can purchase the gift card with no fees, so the charity will receive the full amount in cash when they are chosen as the recipient of the gift card.

Select the email option so that you don’t pay a shipping fee.

It’s very important to note that if “Person A” uses the gift card himself to give to a charity within 45 days from when they purchase it then the 4.5% charity fee will apply. However if anyone else uses the gift card or if “Person A” uses it after 45 days there will be no fees for the charity. According to the rules your spouse should be able to donate the money to a charity with no fees.

Every 501c3 in the country should be available on the website, just search for it by name and zip code using the “Advanced Search” option.

“-I understand that all GiveNow charity gift card purchases made directly through the JustGive website from November 27, starting at 12:01 am EST to 12:01 am EST November 28 will be fee free.
-I understand that fee free does not apply to bulk gift card orders, Donation Registry or Notecard fees or direct donations charged to my credit card. A processing fee of 4.5% will be applied to direct donations.
-I understand that GiveNow charity gift card purchases made by an individual and directly redeemed by that same individual within 45 days do not qualify for fee free.
-I understand that a 0% processing fee will be applied at the time of redemption.
-I understand that GiveNow charity gift cards can only be purchased directly through the JustGive website.
-There is no limit to the number of GiveNow charity gift cards purchased nor is there a dollar limit to the value of GiveNow charity gift cards purchased directly through the JustGive website.”

OMG, this is way too complicated. Can you explain to a stupid person like me how I can just make a simple donation of $500.00 to my Shul?

    @Jerry:
    Sure.
Buy a $500 justgive.org gift card today and you’ll get a tax receipt. Select the email option and send it to someone like your spouse, child, or parent.

Have them redeem that gift card for your local shul and the shul will get a $500 check.

You get 500 miles (or more importantly $500 towards a spend threshold for a signup bonus) and the shul pays no fees. Win-Win!

There’s no limit to the size of the gift card or number of cards you can purchase today.

    @Mindy:
On the home page just click on redeem a gift card.
You then select the charity and they send a check to the charity.

Dan i would like to purchase 5 email charity gift cards for $200, however at the bottom of the purchase page it says

“Please note that your credit card will be charged by JustGive and 4.5% will be deducted from your donation to cover transaction costs. For credit card donations $1,000 and over, the processing fee is 3.5%.”

That is exactly the fee that is being waived today if you donate via gift cards.

Does this work with a penny donation to meet a minimum transaction requirement?

I don’t understand either one of you. Which Mosed does not take CC’s directly. Why do you need that extra hassle

What they’re referring to is the illegal practice of “donating” to a school in exchange for tuition reductions.
Even paying CC fee-less tuition using these charity cards without declaring the $ as charity is probably illegal.

Some schools charge extra for paying with a credit card. Keep in mind, you can buy a gift card and then give it to a mosed administrator to redeem. If you are looking for a nich Chabad House on their list, let me know – we can help you :) email tadenbarter@aol.com

@What?: When you give a credit card to a mosed it is costing the mosed approx 3% in fees. Here is a way to perform teh Mitzva of tzedokah without costing 3% to the mosed.

@What?: Many schools charge you more if you pay by credit card, so this method should save you that premium.

OK. This is how you do it. Even if you click on the email link, you still have to manually enter the redemption code. You then click on “Complete ” It will come up that you don’t have enough funds. Then click again on “complete “. Only then will it go through without the extra charges.

    Whoa!

It’s interesting that both the buyer & the redeemer each get separate receipts for the same donation. The buyer for purchasing the gift card. The redeemer for redeeming!

The redeemer’s receipt clearly says that redeeming a gift card is not tax deductible.
