SIZZLING!!! Transfer 50,000 AMEX Points To Delta And Get 90,000 Redeemable Miles And 25,000 Elite Miles!

Update 2: A number of commenters (that registered before Delta stealthily changed the promotion terms) have had success getting Delta to honor the original 30% bonus on top of the 50% bonus! They faxed Delta at 404-773-1945 and explained that when they made the transfer it was because there was a 50% and 30% bonus and the terms did not state that they couldn’t be combined until 01/31. They also sent a copy of the screenshot that I saved that shows the original terms before Delta changed them.
Send the fax ASAP and let us know how it goes for you!

THIS DEAL IS DEAD, DO NOT TRANSFER TO DELTA EXPECTING AN 80% BONUS ANYMORE!

Update, 01/31: Delta is now reneging and has just updated the terms of the 50% bonus offer and it now says that it can’t be combined with other promotions!
They just added this line under “bonus award information:” “May not be combined with any other Membership Rewards offers between January 14 and May 31, 2011.”
Before today it did not say this! Here is a link to a screenshot of the terms and conditions before today that did not have this verbiage.

50% Bonus Miles Offer Registration Linky

The 50% bonus offer is only for first-time transfers from AMEX into that Delta account.
If you transfer at least 50,000 points you will also get 25,000 MQMs which will get you Delta Silver Medallion status through 02/28/13!
With Elite status you will get free checked luggage, upgrades, bonus miles, and much much more.

People are reporting that these 2 promotions are stackable and that the 50% bonus+MQM offer is posting instantly while the 30% bonus is posting within a couple days after.
So if you transfer 50,000 AMEX Points you get 90,000 miles and elite status:
-50,000 base Delta redeemable miles
-15,000 redeemable miles for the 30% bonus promo
-25,000 redeemable miles for the 50% bonus promo
-25,000 MQMs for Elite status through 02/28/13.

Beware that Delta miles are worth much less than most other miles as they charge much more for most trips and they are part of the Skyteam Alliance, which has very poor award availability. They’re called “Skypesos” for a reason!

    Hey Dan, hope you can help me out,
    Im thinking of going to Europe for the summer and I have 55000 MR points and 25000 Starwood as well as the Amex Plat (thanks to your advice).
    Is it possible to do the following:
    Fly NYC -London on ANA carrier roundtrip business during reg season which is under 7k miles or 60000 ANA points and then seperate trip London -Prague ( a roundtrip distance of less than 1300 miles or 15000 ANA points) and make two stops along the way one in amsterdam for a week and another yet to be determined location for another week. Bringing total ANA points needed to 75000 ANA points, which my starwood and MR points would cover?
    If I can do this, how would you approach it, call the airline, find the fight first, etc?
    Your insight would be very helpful
    Thanks

    I am looking to move my newly awarded platinum points so that i may cancel the card. I have more points in my gold amex account, but i am concerned that if i leave them there amex will take them back.

    Should i transfer to Delta? are there any codes needed for this deal? Do delta charge a fuel charge. i see a ticket to Israel from Pittsburgh is 100K + $45 tax, are there any other hidden fees?

    My thinking is.
    Transfer 100K Amex miles to Delta = 180K (90K per 50K transfered) then transfer 30K chase saphire points (if possible) to bring it closer to the necessary 200K for 2 tickets

    Dan,

    Both links seem to indicate 30%… Is the 50% link broken?

    Also, I spent $1,000 on my Platinum card on mint coins. I got my first bill three weeks ago but still no sign of the 50,000 points… Do you think it is because it was mint coins or does it typically take a while to post the points? (I know that technically it can take up to 4-8 weeks but, as a long time Starwood card holder, I know points generally show up a day or so after the statement…)

    Thanks!

    I found the correct 50% linky http://dmn.delta.com/offers/getmore/

    It says “If you transfer 50,000 points or more, you’ll also receive 25,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs). That’s enough to give you Medallion status and benefits like waived baggage fees, unlimited upgrades, preferred seating, and more.
    And if you make additional Membership Rewards® points transfers through March 31, 2011, register here to receive a 30% bonus on those transfers.”

    Does this mean that you need to make 2 transfers cuz it seems that the additional 30 is only on additional transfers.

    Delta coach is 80k nyc-tlv however availability for 80k is limited and could cost 110k or even 130k with 60k amex you could go with ana/star aliance so before you transfer make sure it makes sense for your particular needs. I personaly use my miles to fly nyc-los angelos which is 25k so I get almost 4 tickets for the price of 2 but this deal isn’t a grand slam for everyone! Use your brains and see if its for you!

    @teachnyc:
    I suggest people do research by reading past posts on DansDeals.com and searching through the DansDeals Forums at http://www.dansdeals.com/forums for in-depth research.

    @Avi:
    You can combine your AMEX points from your Platinum and Gold cards into 1 Membership Rewards account. Just call AMEX to do that. They wont’ take back points that way even if you close one of the cards.

    Delta generally charges more imles to ISrael than Continental or ANA, so you’ll need to research to decide if the 80% bonus plus elite status makes it worthwhile.

    You need to register for the 30% and 50% bonuses before transferring.

    Chase Sapphire does not transfer to Delta.

    @Eli:
    You can even borrow the points and transfer them now if you want.

    @Crunch:
    Charge cards do not work like the Starwood card at all.
    First of all like you said the Starwood card awards points based on when you spend the money.
    Charge cards only award points after you spend the money and pay the bill and wait another statement.

    You retain all your Starwood points even if you close your Starwood card.
    You need to spend or transfer your AMEX points if you close your charge card and have no other charge cards or you lose the points.

    With either card AMEX will let you borrow MR points or Starpoints that you can pay back based on future earnings.

    Of course there are many more differences than that!

    @yossi:
    No, you must do 1 transfer.

    @Blubber:
    AMEX points don’t transfer to AA.
    20,000 Starwood points become 25,000 AA miles though.

    Yes, you can borrow against those points.
    For 50,000 AMEX points you get 90,000 redeemable miles which means they can be used for award tickets.

    You also get 25,000 MQM, which is what most airlines call EQM, or elite qualifying miles, which by Delta is medallion qualifying miles.
    These miles can’t be used for award tickets, they’re only good for elite status. With 25,000 of them you get Silver status. If you get more MQMs you can work your way up to Gold, Platinum, and Diamond status.

    2 – Is the amex platinum card deal for 50k bonus points the best deal youve seen for opening a platinum amex. If i cancel the card once the 50k points hit my account, I’ll still be charged the $450 initiation fee, correct?

    @Marc:
    1. Highly doubtful.
    2. 50K is the best publicly available offer ever.
    If you cancel the card within a couple months they usually refund the entire fee, even if you transferred out the points. Otherwise if you cancel after say 3 months they will prorate the $450 fee, so you’ll only wind up paying a quarter of the fee for 3 months of usage!

    @Shucks:
    Probably wishful thinking. But ya’ never know. Give it a few days and see if you get them and let us know!

    @yoily:
    They may decide to stop letting the promos stack, so transfer sooner rather than later if you want to do this promo.

    I signed up and got approved for the platinum amex with 50k bonus a few weeks ago and charged and paid off $1k+. I am waiting for the points to post. I am trying to book a trip from LA to Maui this summer for my wife and I. I was planning on transferring the amex points to continental since you’ve said in the past they tend to have the best availability and use those miles. Is it now worth it instead to transfer to delta? Continental charges 40k per roundtrip and delta seems to charge 52.5K. Any chance continental will come out with a similar offer in the near future? Or just go with this delta deal? What would you recommend?

    As an aside, my wife has 16k in her continental mileage account. Any way I can transfer that to my account and use it towards this trip?

    @Marc:
    Generally status matches are once per lifetime.

    @Blonde?:
    If you can’t figure out how to transfer points on the AMEX site then try calling the number on the back of your card to get someone to transfer the points for you.
    The site will only reflect the base 50,000 points, not the bonus points which are added by Delta, not by AMEX.

    @Chaim:
    At those rates it may make sense to transfer to Delta.
    Bear in mind though that each airline has their own rules

    Continental allows you to change the date and routing for free up to 21 days before the flight.

    Delta will charge you $150 per ticket for that.

    Then again Continental charges an expedite fee while Delta doesn’t. United doesn’t charge one either so maybe Continental will get rid of their soon as well…who knows!

    Once miles are in an airline account they generally can’t be transferred.

    Enrollment in SkyMiles is required. Airline tickets are subject to availability. For each conversion of points into the SkyMiles program, a fee of $0.0006 per point, with a maximum fee of $99

I also followed up with a fax of the screen shot prior to them changing the rules as well as a paragraph from this website stating that people have reported receiving both bonuses.

    I applied for and got the AmEx Platinum card. I immediately borrowed 60,000 Membership Reward Points and transferred them to my SkyMiles account after registering for both the 30% and 50% bonus. The miles and 50% bonus posted immediately along with the 25,000 MQMs. However, the 30% bonus did not post. I checked back here and saw the update about the change in Delta’s terms and conditions. I faxed Delta a copy of the screenshot found here and asked them to credit my account with the 18,000 miles that they owed me. I mentioned in the fax that I had only made the original transfer based upon the expectation of utilizing both offers because in general SkyMiles are not worth much. Two days later they were deposited into my account along with an email explaining that they had resolved the issue. Thanks Dan!

So if someone wants to risk it, they will still get the 50% and the 25k EQM’s and then try to hock Delta for the 30% but there is no guarrantee it will work, but when you write DEAD DEAD DEAD it makes it sound like the whole promo is dead.

    I personally feel that I may transfer 50k and at least get my 50% bonus and silver status and being that I have screenshot of my actual offer registration confirmation I think I may have a good shot of proving to them that I registered under the old terms and see if I could get them to honor them. The terms of the 30% promotion did not clearly outline that you couldn’t receive both bonuses. However, The 50% promotion you did receive the bonus miles for does. Please see the link below.

    Under the Terms and Conditions: Bonus Award Information; “Bonus miles and MQM’s will be awarded on a one time basis per qualified member and will not be awarded more than one time per member?”

    receive both bonuses. However, The 50% promotion you did receive the
    bonus miles for does. Please see the link below.
    http://dmn.delta.com/offers/getmore/
    Under the Terms and Conditions: Bonus Award Information; “Bonus miles
    and MQM’s will be awarded on a one time basis per qualified member and
    will not be awarded more than one time per member?”
    If you would prefer to receive the 30% bonus, we would have to remove
    the 25k bonus miles and MQM’s you have already received. Members that
    did receive both bonuses to their accounts were in error, and this issue
    has been fixed.

    Please accept our apology for the unfavorable impression you received in
    this instance. We appreciate your selection of Delta and will always
    consider it a privilege to be of service.

    Everybody is talking about the 30% bonus, how about the 50% bonus points? Do you get those immediately? I spoke to delta and they said that you only get those bonus miles after May 31st. Is that correct? Also, is there a limit to the amount of points you can transfer to get the bonus?

    I sent the fax to delta and they awarded me the bonus 30% however for my wife originally they said that the terms and conditions state that they cannot be combined and then I sent them the screen shot and they awarded her the 30% but posted it as a membership rewards transfer and therefore she got an additional 30% on that bonus.

    Yesterday I advised that I have about 150K Amex miles and that I was thinking to convert them to Delta miles and get the 50% additional bonus miles & 25K bonus elite mls. Why did you say that 80K Continental miles are better? I didn’t get what the connection and/or recommendation was?? Please explain. Thanks!

    MY FINAL LETTER TO DELTA.
    See below 2 of my friends had the same issue and did get their miles credited, I expect you to do the same, I am only asking from Delta to honor their original offer that I had signed up for, which had no limitations on getting both the 30% & the 50% offers, the terms where only changed afterwards, (I have copies of the original offer and the changed offer), I expect you to do the right thing and credit my account with the miles, or else I will file a complaint with the appropriate authorities in addition to the bad press this will bring. Please honor your offer. Thanks

    Dear Mr Gateway,

    Thank you for contacting Delta Air Lines.

    We understand there’s been some confusion surrounding the current
    Membership Rewards promotions. We apologize for the inconvenience this
    may have caused and we hope to shed light on the promotion terms and
    conditions.

    The 50% mileage bonus (plus 25,000 MQMs for transfer of 50,000 or more
    MR points) offer is not combinable with the 30% mileage bonus offer. The
    Terms and Conditions state that ?Members will receive a 50% mileage
    bonus on miles transferred in a single transaction from the date you
    register through May 31, 2011. which signifies the 50% bonus is only
    applicable for a single transaction. Moreover, on the enrollment
    confirmation page, we originally had a sentence inviting customers to
    register for the 30% offer to receive the bonus on subsequent transfers:
    ?And if you make additional Membership Rewards(r) points transfers
    through
    March 31, 2011, register here to receive a 30% on those transfers.?

    It was brought to our attention that the terms were confusing, so on
    January 28 we added some clarity to the terms. We removed the sentence
    from the enrollment confirmation page and added the following sentence
    to the terms: ?May not be combined with any other Membership Rewards
    offers between January 14 and May 31, 2011.?

    Customers eligible for the 50% offer are welcome to register for the 30%
    offer to receive bonuses on subsequent transfers.

    If you have any additional questions, concerns, or need further
    assistance, please let us know.

    Sincerely,

    Thanks for your response, I disagree with you that the 50% promotion
    clearly state that you couldn’t receive both bonuses, instead it only
    mentions that it will only award this same offer once, but nowhere does
    it say that you cannot receive 2 different offers.

    In fact I have learned that on 01/31 Delta has updated the terms of the
    50% bonus offer and it now says that it can’t be combined with other
    promotions!
    they just added this line under “bonus award information:” “May not be
    combined with any other Membership Rewards offers between January 14 and
    May 31, 2011.”
    Before 1/31 when I applied for this offer it did not say this! So it
    wasn’t clear that you cannot combine 2 promotions.

    Please credit my account with the 15,000 miles that are owed to me from
    the 30% offer.
    Thank you

    “MY ORIGINAL LETTER TO DELTA”

    To Delta Sky Miles, via fax 404-773-1945 Re; sky miles account # xxxxxxx, Silver Medallion

    I have recently signed up for 2 offers from Delta a 50% and 30% bonus (see attached offers) for transferring Membership Reward Points to Delta, I made the transfer from AMEX to my SkyMiles account after registering for both the 30% and 50% bonus, The miles and 50% bonus posted immediately. However, the 30% bonus did not post yet.
    I had only made the original transfer based upon the expectation of utilizing both offers because in general SkyMiles are not equal in value to AMEX Membership Reward Points or many other airline programs, the terms did not state that they couldn’t be combined, and I know some of my friends that signed up in January also got both bonus mile offers.
    Please credit my account with the 15,000 miles that are owed to me from the 30% offer.
    Thank you.

    I signed up for the 50% promotion for Delta. I booked a business ticket which is 350,000 points which they are holding for two days. Do I have to transfer the full amount of points from AMEX or will 175,000 do?

    it seems the promotion does not give you half price. It gives you a 50% bonus.
    So if you transfer 100, you get 150, since 50 is 50% of 100.
