Even When Amazon Cancels An Order, They’re Still Amazing!

If only the airlines took lessons from Amazon.

Last month we posted 12 bottles of sunscreen for $19. My order came with 12, but some people only got 6 bottles. Amazon let them keep their 6 bottles and still gave a full refund.

On Monday we posted a deal for over $300 off an organic crib mattress, however today Amazon cancelled everyone’s order due to it being a price mistake.

Several people have been able get a credit by calling Amazon (888-280-4331) or chatting with Amazon and escalating to a supervisor to see if they would be willing to match the current price in order to honor the price paid.

Now this is customer service:

Dave

I knew i should have bought that mattress even though i had no use for it!!

hvaces42

I got half my order of sunscreen. They reordered the rest and gave me $5 credit.

Sruly

I got cancellation emails for the Andersen mats but then they ended up shipping them and they work great.

Thank you.

Brian

I knew there was a reason I ordered the mattress even with no use for it. Score!

When your a company that doesn’t need to make a profit then it’s easy to give away money

Abraham

I ordered an item for $25 and 2 days later a similar one was on sale for $10, so they gave me free returns.

Rebecca

I got nothing 🙁

AG

Very much YMMV. Getting only nasty supervisors and after fighting offering only a $10 promo credit.

el

thanks for posting this. my sunscreen came today and i didn’t realize it was missing half of them until I saw this posted. starting a chat with amazon right now…

Yossi

Two weeks ago there was a price mistake on 3000 cups for $16 and the regular price is now $116, I ordered and only received like 50 cups. Called Amazon and they gave me $100 promotional credit! So I basically paid $16 for 50 cups and received $100 credit… Now looking for more price mistake…

Seth Levy

Same deal with the Purell deal, only received one, got a full refund and kept the bottle.

Yo

Dan, you’re the best!!! Just got my package today and only got half. I didn’t even realize it until I saw your post. I just got a refund. Thank you!

myi

To top all stories I had gotten $800+ from amazon with one order.. bit of a story, but well worth it.

All i got was $20 🙁

RS

Chatted with rep. She initially offered $5 and when I told her this is the second price mistake I’ve dealt with in the past 2 weeks she offered $10. Not much but I’ll take it.

Mendy r

I purchased a wink hub 2 for $0.00 for a service discount or some other mistake 😉 Anyway, the rep explained since it was a pricing error they’re cancelling. She then proceeded to give me a FULL credit so that I can repurchase!!!!!! The original price was ~$91!!!!! That’s Amazing service!!!

Sn

Did not work for me. Was transferred to a price specialist, then asked to be transferred to a supervisor and no matter how I asked, she refused to give me anything for it.

Iz

I got a refund +$5 for the lotion. 🙂

AG

4th supervisor was a charm. first two refused to do anything. 3rd offered $10. 4th offered $50.

so $60 in total.

Love dan!

I didn’t realize I was supposed to get 12 sunscreens …. no luck with getting anything from the mattresses

One common theme in most reviews. HUCA

If only staples had that kind of service! I ordered the 25$ and put like 10 free gifts along with it (the system let it go threw-like you posted Dan) but they just canceled my order and wouldnt give anything all nasty their supervisers!!

Wait until they cancel your account

I agree its nice to get refunds or credits as a buyer through amazon. But as a seller through amazon I know very well what’s behind all those refunds/credits. The sellers suffer badly from amazons strict selling policies when customers abuse the system. Buyers complain anything on an item, like its damaged, fake, not working etc etc, just to get the refund and to keep the items. We had it more than once when a buyer ‘returned’ a cell cover/protecter, she returned her old cover! Not the brand new one that she got!! One buyer even returned the box empty! You can talk to amazon’s system like to a wall when it comes to seller support. Because for the smallest wrong a seller makes, they suddenly close his account. In other words- his parnossa! At amazon, the customer is always right. I can tell you many stories of endless buyer abuse. Mistakes always happen and its rude to benefit from it. And according to the Torah, ‘gezel akum’ is forbidden. And you never know if the seller is your fellow jew, the seller of this mistake. Which is of course, forbidden
Shop carefully.
Good luck

motherofpearl

Its not always true. Sometimes they have deals with sellers (selling under their name.)

And its still gezel akum.

M

I got $20…bummed I wanted to get $50

BagBag

Just got $200 (gift card) off a future purchase after an hour of phone calls and live chats. Told them about both the mat and the crib and they were very embarrassed – but it took a lot of time. A supervisor had to talk to a manager. Good luck to all – be persistent and persuasive. Most of their staff have never seen amazon canceling an order before so they are pretty sympathetic.

myi

@Anonymous: hit me a pm in ddf if your curios..

Alex

I think those getting big concesions back are highly profitable customers, those who get less are less profitable and those who don’t anything when asked are unprofitable who may even get banned if they continue to ask for stuff or return too much. Amazon has everything about every customer in their computer.

@Yossi: I know I should have bought the cup

Nick O

I’ve had terrible customer service. The last instance: I bought 2 pairs of jeans and a belt. Returned the pair of jeans that were too big. It said I returned the belt. Odd. Then I was given $5 less than the purchase price. I had to go through 2 chats and a lengthy email chain just to get the correct compensation. The belt was $25.95 and the jeans $38.99. I was refunded $33.99. Weird

Confused

@motherofpearl: I understand the frustration you feel when you hear us laugh about returns and refunds when it cost you blood, but I still don’t get how exactly this is”gezel”, which part is gezel? Buying something you don’t really need? Or telling the CS rep that you’re upset for the cancellation when you’re not? Huh?

Hunch

@motherofpearl:

Taking advantage of a price mistake isn’t gezel akum.

Btw I’m also a seller on Amazon. And like Dan said – these items were all sold my amazon. So it has no effect on 3 rd party sellers.

feom

I just got them to do a price adjustment on a new order, I won’t get the item for a few months but I’m getting the mattress for the cheap price. still on the chat with the supervisor to see if she can do something about that Cologne set….

Bobby

They actually are giving me the mattress for $93. I had to reorder and do the one that is sold and shipped by amazon. It’s currently out of stock so they gave me a $100 credit and will give an addition $202 when it ships in approximately 4 weeks

feom

I just finished, the rep just gave me the mattress when it comes into stock at 93 (apparently the difference between today and yesterday was they got a guaranteed date for more stock). She also sent me the Aqua di Geo Cologne that was missing from my set from last week.
She was a supervisor after the regular reps had told me they wouldn’t give me anything so as always YMMV

AMG

Ordered that giant 12×6 outdoor mat for $30 last week – regular price is over $500. Received cancellation email, $5 credit then mat shows up at my door today and Amazon only charged my card $30! This mat will be great for my Sukkah. Amazon is my go to retailer. Thanks Dan!

@DAN @ALL

i seldom post. but this is the second time i recall you posting something of this nature so i wanted to just make everyone aware….

everything you do on amazon whether from a buyer side or seller side (i an a seller as well) is recorded and kept noted on your account. If you take advantage of the system it is bound to come back and bite you.
their system/policies are definitely customer centric, they say so themselves and their ease of returns and ease of getting refunds and credits are very tempting to benefit from all these mistakes can ultimately be grounds for them to blacklist you from their site (agreeably, they are harsher and faster to ban on the seller side, but i know personally friends that have gotten warnings and some that got banned, both as customers).
that said, i dont know why dan and co post these articles and cause ppl to fight for what they now think is rightfully theirs….
IF you legitimately only purchase things that are of interest to you, or even the price mistakes, and hope for them to ship is one thing, but to start asking for compensation, when you knew originally it was most probably a price mistake, is just not very ethical and you may lose in the long run…
sorry for the legnthy post, just wanted to give the proper warning…
… remember google shutting down all those resellers….
taking advantage of a company is not a bright idea… dont know too many ppl that would easy to live without amazon…

alex

@Hunch: Not sold by Amazon. Fulfilled by amazon. Big difference. Rep told me that if it was sold by amazon, she would have shipped it out to me at the lower price.

Different Dan

I just had a similar experience with Amazon – I ordered an item then was notified it was out of stock so I wanted to order a similar one but now I would be charged for shipping because it didn’t qualify on its own. I sent them an e-kvetch (hardest part is finding a way to send them an email) and within minutes they replied telling me to order the new item with the fastest shipping time and they credited me for the shipping charges!

Bitter

Thanks! I love taking a good company that has great customer service and abusing it for free money. God bless America.

AYid

@motherofpearl: As a seller i agree %100 it is true, we need to get some awareness to the buyers on amazon, they should know what the’r doing to the sellers, it is probably just because they don’t know,

when you buy directly from Amazon.com you can do whatever you want, and try to get out the most (not talking from stealing ch”v) but you shouldn’t think that this is the right way in humanity when it come to some innocent people that wants to make a parnosah,

Just a few points for buyers (i know here isn’t the place) to know before they harm some others

1) when you select “item defective” by a return just to save the shipping back, you can bankrupt the seller!

2) when you leave bad feedback, you can bankrupt the seller!
(even you’r right but you can return and think if this is the punishment you would sentence for this crime….)

3) don’t file A to Z claim before contacting the seller (i had somebody making a A to Z claim on me because i didn’t refund him the shipping in the first place….)

4) Try thinking from the seller he’s working very hard to make some money, and always try to give 5 star if you “are” satisfied from the product

Please comment and spread the word, thanks
