Earn Double Points With AMEX Cards At Small Businesses For The Rest Of 2016

You can register your AMEX cards via the link above for double points at small businesses.

You can view the terms of the offer for each AMEX card here.

You can earn double rewards on up to $100K in purchases on each consumer card and on up to $250K in purchases on each business card.

Enrolled Primary Card Members can earn double rewards for purchases made at qualifying small businesses by all Additional Card Members on their account. There’s no need to enroll additional cardholders separately.

It remains to be seen if there will be a statement credit for Small Business Saturday or if this promotion replaces the statement credit.

Earning 2 Starpoints per dollar is pretty sweet, and if you’re also targeted for this offer you can effectively earn 3 Starpoints per dollar.

Will we also earn double on things that are already multiplied, such as the six points per dollar on groceries with the blue cash preferred?

Dan

@ew:
From the terms,
“Earn an additional 1% cash back per dollar of purchases using an enrolled Blue Cash Everyday® Card or Blue Cash Preferred® Card at qualifying small businesses.”

Moe

2 SPG vs 1 UR – which is better?

Anonymous

@Moe:
Is that a real question?

Hey

Will i get double points untop of the included double points for a transaction of over $5k, i believe amex just added this new feature on business plats.

Jay

@Moe: You’re kidding.

@Dan:
I don’t think you are correct. Read the paragraph of the terms that is listed after all the cards (starwood). It says you will NOT receive extra existing bonus.

Steve

@Jay:
Ok, so which is better 1 SPG or 1 UR ?

Jerry

Does it mean that I’ll get 6 points on my travel instead of 3 with the platinum

baruch

@Hey this doesn’t seem to be for business cards

12HRS

@Hey never mind it does work on business cards

Moe

How about 2 SPG vs 3 UR – which is better?

Ari

Need to enroll each AU card as well or all AU cards are automatically enrolled once the main card is enrolled?

A

@Ari:
Are you serious? This is one of dans shortest posts. No excuse for asking that question.

Why am I getting this when I try to go to the site to register (https://www.amex.co/shopsmalloffer)?

KRM and Moisha’s don’t seem to be on. Neither does Seasons or Gourmet Glatt (except the Lakewood location). OTOH, Aron’s Kissena Farms is on.

Regarding the SPG spend $5000 receive 5000 extra points: Any suggestions on how to do this at small businesses?

I was pretty excited to read about this promo and already signed up all my Amex cards. But then I started analyzing how much of my spend is actually at small businesses in a 5-10 mile radius from my house. Turns out, not much. I realized I spend mostly at big box retailers, Amazon, chain grocery shops (i.e. Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods), and warehouse clubs (Costco), all of which leaves very little spend for small businesses. Our daughter’s preschool only takes checks or ACH deposit, and they’re not a small business either. Naturally, everyone’s YMMV, but after conducting this analysis this offer won’t ultimately change what cards I place at the front of my wallet. We’ll probably spend a couple of hundred dollars between now and years end at restaurants, but that’s not a lot of extra points. I’d like to hear how people are going to maximize this offer. In my case, spend at small businesses is just not going to happen.

Is there a way to enroll in this offer for Amex cards issued by other banks (e.g., PenFed, Citi)?
