Most airlines will give you a refund or credit for the drop in fare if the price of a ticket you already bought goes below the price you paid , less the applicable change fee.

Under their old policy Airtran applied a $75 fee on a refare so on a $300 ticket the price would have to fall under $225 for you to be eligible for a credit.  Now if the ticket price falls at all after purchase you can get a credit for the price drop!

Here are the domestic carriers that allow for free refares on your ticket if the price drops:
-Airtran
-Alaska
-Jetblue
-Southwest

Just give them a call if the price drops!

When will the big airlines start this. It’s such an awesome thing. Makes you never regret booking too early. And dan, is there a website like kayak that will monitor the specific flight you want and let you know if it dropped in price?

Sam

I just got a refund from jetblue yesterday for a ticket that had went down in price

@Sam:

For the $10 sale on Monday, they refused me.

Dan, which one of these airlines actually gives you a REFUND, and not a CREDIT?
Jetblue only gives a credit.

I did a free refare with Airtran a year ago on few tickets. So, I don’t think its a new policy.

@al613:
I’ve tried refaring Airtran multiple times in the past to no avail and read similar report online.
Methinks you got lucky a year ago!

I know United will give you a travel voucher for the difference.

@Devorah:
They used to, now they subtract the $150 change fee before giving a voucher.
