There are still sub-$400 Transaero fares available from JFK to Tel Aviv bookable on Airfare.com

Seats are very limited, especially on the flights with shorter connection times.

Airfare.com only allows free cancellation until 11:59pm on the day of purchase.

The shortest flight is with a 3:25 connection in Moscow on the outbound (16:25 total travel time) and a 4:25 connection in Moscow on the return (18:20 total travel time).

Be sure that the total travel time isn’t longer than that or else the flight may require an overnight in Moscow and you are not allowed to leave the airport without a Russian Visa.

Kids rates apply to children 2-11.

You may want to splurge to get your infant a seat as a lap child is $110 while a infant in a seat is $330.  Well worth the extra $110 each way to have a seat for your infant (bring a carseat) so that they can sleep on the plane.  Safer as well and your arms will thank you.

Wednesdays have the most availability.

For example as of the time of this posting, a flight from 02/25-03/04 has at least 9 seats available for $368 round-trip, a flight from 02/25-03/11 (Purim) has at least 5 seats available for $383 round-trip.

Other dates seem more limited.  A flight from 02/18-02/25 would only be available for 3 people.  When you search for more people than they have cheap tickets for that you’ll pay the higher price for all passengers.

Note that the $353 flight below has a 13:15 connection but the $368 flight has the shorter connections:

Mag

At the end of January, even from a Wednesday to a Wednesday it’s close to 600

Anonymous

If I booked flight with Amex PRG and then closed the card because of AF before my actual flight date and airline goes belly-up will I get the same level of customer service from AMEX regarding refund with a closed card?

Dan

@Anonymous:
You can still dispute even if the card is closed.
You can also downgrade to a less expensive card.

Anonymous

@Dan:
can i downgrade to a non annual fee card from this PRG charge card?
why not just close as opposed to downgrade since this is a charge card wont hurt my credit score a bit?

Sir

I have a confirmed flight and the price is great. But does anybody know…firsthand…if the airline is as bad as It sounds…no seat choice etc. what about ordering kosher meals?

sara

Does anyone know if these rates are available for 3 for peasach?

Sam

Anyone know if I can cancel for free my tickets yesterday?

Sam

Anyone know if I cancel my flight ???

Meyer

all info on cancellations are posted here. I called cheapoair, the site I booked with and they confirmed/added kosher meals to my flight

que

Dan booked on ua business am I covered?

RG

The only flights available for 350 – 400 $ are with 12 hour stopover. Anyone see otherwise?

JB

@Sir: U must confirm with airline, aircompany is fine.

Aadm

@Sir: I contacted Transaero directly and they said to email the ticket numbers, and the type of meal you’re requesting (Kosher). I don’t think you can choose seats until check-in- 30 hours before your flight

Sir

Thanks!

Izzy

any dates in august?

Eli

@Anonymous: you will not be able to select seats only 24 hours before the flight
Regarding the kosher meals
From NY will be OU
From Moscow will be the chief rabbi of Moscow
From tlv will be bedatz

Manny

Thanks Dan. I just booked three tickets for $368 to fly in February on Kayak.com

C.

@Sir:
I just booked a flight – thank you Dan!! We needed a specific (very limited) range of dates, flying for a wedding, and found it for a total of $886 for two adults and a baby. THANK YOU!
Re this question –
I asked around. It seems this is the airline ppl here use to travel to Uman etc…. a cheap airline, people HAVE gotten stuck in the airport for the night (remember you can’t leave the airport without a visa) but for us – at half the price – it was worth the risk.
Good luck!

C.

@RG:
Yep. we have a flight from TLV to JFK (march) for $448, 4 hr stopover on the way there, 3.5 on the way back.

Judah

@Dan:

I am a father of a 20 old girl going to Tel Aviv through Moscow; she booked a flight with a 13 hours stopover in Moscow. I am very worried about this long layover and I’d like some feedback / suggestions, etc about the security inside that airport, and about anything else to worry about (kosher food, etc)
If any one has prior knowledge / experience of this airport I’d welcome any feedback / advice.
I’d love to know if there are any other Frum people taking the March 1st 2015 flight to Tel Aviv via Moscow. Please let me know.
Thanks

Rahel

Booked a $352 for 3/18/-3/29 😀
I still saw a few of these tickets left for certain dates (but all had a long layover, at least one of the ways).

Experienced

2 years ago i booked a 13hr stopover in Russia from NY-TLV thinking to travel around Russia not knowing i needed a visa till 2 days before my flight, with no choice i spent maybe $50-$60 to stay in a lounge upstairs with comfortable couches, unlimited computer usage, very quiet & probably safer.
It just depends which airport she lands in!

Important to know that Transaero is in a critical financial situation and there is much talk of the airline going bankrupt in the near future. (even though the CEO obviously made a statement denying it…). So just make sure with your credit card that you book with that you will be able to dispute the charge in the event of the flight not operating. Also, I would NOT make any non-refundable hotel / car / etc bookings….

Anonymous

@avi: there is no kosher food in the airport at all , after travelling several times with them with just 3.5-4 hours stopover I would be extremely worried what to do there for 13 hours

Joel

@Avi: I travelled with them and had a 3.5 hour stopover after an hour I was soo bored. 13 hours will drive anyone crazy.

IJG

@Avi: Bring extra food and bottled drinks with you. You should also consider bringing a roll of toilet paper 🙂

Suri

i dont need a visa to enter Russia. is it possible to go to town in a 3 or 5 hour stopover?

sara

hate travelling myself. anyone booked the flight for jan 18? or returning jan 25?

Aryeh

Went to cheapoair.com to check out flights for Pesach, and booked from 3/31-4/13 for under $700 Turkish Airlines

Ety

Booked 5 tickets for end of January yeshiva vacation YAY!! Was able to book kosher for NY to Moscow. Is there a meal from Moscow to Israel?

Yakov Were

I booked two tickets for the beginning of Feb. I called up the airline and they said that I can only arrange for seats 3 hours prior to departure. Is there a way I can do it before?

Yakov Were

Etty, there should be a way to get kosher from Moscow to Israel. Try the airline. (How did you get the food from NY to Moscow?)

yip

@dan Do they transfer your luggage for you in moscow?

Avi

@Experienced: Thank you “experienced” for your helpful feedback! Avi

Avi

@Anonymous: TO ALL who contributed to my quest for information about Moscow’s airport stopover, I want to thank you – you have ALL been very helpful.
PS my daughter seem to welcome the 13 hour layover in Moscow ?????

Danielle

Hi Dan, does this deal work for NYC to Israel and back on January 13, 14, or 15 until January 26 or 27th? Or know of any deals in that time frame?

Anonymous

Everyone Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! do not put a $ on this airline, they are going bust probably before your all departing…….

שמעון

anyone book for lag b’oimer?

YG

I’ve gone to Moscow for work a number of times, there is a superfast train which gets you into town in 35 minutes. http://www.aeroexpress.ru/en/sheremetyevo.html

From there you can either take the underground to the Kremlin / Red Square or walk. I’d take the underground as it was an experiance in of itself. Ensure you have your routes prepared in advance, there is NO English in the underground.

MTE

just booked to israel last night, as a friend of mine booked hers first for $526 round trip with Transeoro, i tried to do the same on my computer , it gave me an error msg called up and the deal was gone!! so i booked on a Aeroflot for same dates, stop, short layover but price was $645.00….be careful to select the short time over in moscow. Called Aeroflot and ordered kosher meals on all connecting flights . You can also cancel a booking next day if you speak to a manager with the condition that you rebook a diff. flight first.

Dina

@YG how did you leave the airport? Did you have a Russian Visa?

IJG

Russian government to issue 9-bln-rouble guarantee to Transaero airlines: http://itar-tass.com/en/economy/769084

For train service from Vnukovo (the airport which Transaero uses) to Moscow, see http://www.aeroexpress.ru/en/vnukovo.html

Be sure to obtain a Russian visa prior to travel if you wish to leave the airport: http://www.russianembassy.org/page/visas

sam

Anything for Dec 31 or jan 1 and coming back jan 4th

Jew2dee2

Have you people no shame? you are yourselves acting out the stereotype the a jew would sell his own mother for a bargain.
This is an airline that has gone out of it’s way to erase Israel from it’s world maps.
When you fly Etihad (and Qatar also by the way) you are DIRECTLY giving money to these anti-semites.
YOU CANNOT SAY YOU DIDN’T KNOW!!!!

josh

i booked a flight to israel via Russia, now i have to get a VISA, whats the easiest and cheapest way to obtain one??

13 hr stopover

I did the 13 hr stopover twice. first time we were 2 adults and it was very difficult not to be able to put your head down anywhere. right before we left we saw someone shlep together 2 benches facing each other and went to sleep. thats what made me undertake to do it a second time with 4 children. if you come well prepared it is not bad at all!my kids say they would do it again. make sure to have a traveling pillow and blanket and shlep together 2 benches and sleep, or at least put your feet up comfortably) bring enough reading material, games, food, credit card – they will not accept USD – to buy water.

Berel

Do they have free wifi? Airline says that they have ‘premium’ lounge

Faigy

This deal is NOT dead anymore. I just booked tickets for 397. There are plenty of dates available, you just have to play around with it. The prices on the calendar are NOT accurate. It gets cheaper when you do it manually!!! Is anyone going on the JFK 2:25 flight on January 12?

Worried about Cancellation

Can somebody please offer more info regarding the status of the airline?? I booked tickets for my entire family for Pesach from Israel to New York and really cannot be left stranded at the last minute. I’ll greatly appreciate any more information. Many thanks to Dan!!

Eli

Definitely not dead. I just booked a round trip flight from nyc to tlv on kayak for $384. We booked premium economy as it was (and still is at the time of this comment) the same price as economy. With premium economy you get 2 bags up to 55lbs each. We’re flying from 4/19 to 7/5 and there are still seats available on our flights for $384 price. So who’s joining us? 😊

Eli

Btw when booking on the kayak app, after I finished filling out my information I pressed’ “agree and book.” Instead of going through smoothly it loaded for a little bit and then said something like, “there was an error in processing your information, please go back and try again.” Before I went back and tried again I saw that I had already gotten a confirmation email from kayak for the booking and shortly after from Vayama with my ticket number. So if you submit a booking and encounter an error, do yourself a favor and check your email before booking again.

Shimmy

i booked a flight with Aeroflot for next week. i immediately got a confirmation from airfare but not from Aeroflot. its been so many hours since i have booked it. is that normal??? usually when i book on orbits within minutes i receive a confirmation and/or email from the airline directly too.

Shimmy

could u imagine that my ticket has been confirmed but not issued so Aeroflot tells me i cannot fly and that i need to contact airfare. airfare has terrible service. they tell me to wait…and wait… anybody encountered this???

Shoshi

Tickets are available for 367 on airfare.com!
I needed specific dates and found for 381.

Does anyone know how to get a one-day visa?

Ben

I booked a flight a week ago at 370. I want to change it to a month later for a family wedding but would cost nearly $1000 to change. Anyway to cancel? It says non refundable. just dispute cc charge?

Anon

I booked through price line/transaero and had to make a date change. The company allowed me to do so without a charge, but it could be because it was within an hour of my booking.

danthecan

Just ran a few searches on airfare.com and there are still tickets in the $300’s. Hard to find a short stopover on the way there, (I did find one) but the 13 hour stopover gets you into Moscow in the morning and you leave in the evening, so if you apply for a visa you can check out Moscow.

SMacks

Did anybody take the Transaero flight and can tell me about the Moscow VKU airport? Can I charge my laptop or should I bring a converter? If I am going with a 13-year-old and baby, do they also have to pay for the lounge? I am one of the crazy people who booked a 13-hour stopover. Any advice would be great. Thanks!
