UberX drivers without any formal education or onerous licensing requirements are making six figures annually driving around a Camry based on their own schedule. How awesome is that?
Equally awesome for me at least was the huge taxi line I was able to skip yesterday at LGA as I hopped into an UberX towncar without waiting more than a minute.
Back on topic, a DDF user reported getting a targeted offer for a $30 free ride because he signed up to Uber Family but didn’t use it yet. Uber Family is a low-cost UberX car that comes with a forward facing carseat.
You can search for Uber Family cars by applying the following promo code on Uber.com or in-app: FAMILY
Once you do that the Family option will appear when you request a car from the Uber app.

Ive used UBER a few times in NYC and I was pretty impressed. Tell the cabbies to shower, clean their cars, and turn on the damn A/C and maybe this wont have such an impact on their business. Ive only used Uber Black Car so far so I dont know how UberX is, but I am sure its up to par and better then hailing a cab on the street.
Ironically, the first time I actually used Uber, it turned out to be a Frum Israeli. White dress shirt, big black velvet Yarmulka. Kudos to him for not trying to hide his identity in the city.

@Dan: I actually had SUV’s mostly even though I ordered Black Car. Probably for the same reason.
Ironically, the Suburbans were a lot nicer and comfortable then the Escalade I got once. The only Black “Car” I got was the new MKX, which is technically a small SUV/crossover.

call it as you like, Fact is that Numerous drivers have already had the cars impounded with hefty Fines & now are pushing for arrests- Either way , its not a healthy Situation right now in Miami
They are waiting for you to come down next week to straighten things out (Maybe they can cook you a great meal )
@miami flyer: They face resistance in every city they enter. Like I said earlier if the typical cab experience improved then UBER would be for people that are really UBER. Im not sying they gotta have luxury cars or leather seats. just the basics. Clean, smell free, A/C, customer service……..
@miami flyer: U gotta sympathize with taxi drivers. they paid for a special right (medallions in ny cost like $250k, and most cabbies pay high rental fees to rich peeps who own them) and now others are infringing on it and making their investment worthless. i wonder whether they have a claim under the Takings clause if the municipalities do not enforce their exclusive rights under the medallions.
Uberx is never cheaper than a reg yellow taxi
Signed up for it a while ago but never used it. It has always been significantly more expensive than taxi or car service quotes.
