BA is offering a 25% bonus on hotel points transferred into Avios through 10/15/13.

20,000 Starpoints normally transfers into 25,000 airline miles. With the additional 25% bonus you’ll get a total of 31,250 Avios.

-Transfer 20,200 Starpoints and you’ll have 31,500 Avios, enough for 7 short-haul one-way award redemptions.
-Transfer 40,000 Starpoints and you have 62,500 Avios, more than enough for a 60K round-trip award to Israel on Air Berlin with no fuel surcharges.  Or it’s more than enough for 8 one-way tickets between NYC and Miami or 5 one-way tickets between the west coast and Hawaii.

-Bonus Avios can take 4-6 weeks to show on your account from the date of conversion.

Of course there are dozens of airlines that you can transfer your Starpoints into and you can use them for hotel stays so don’t transfer unless you have a need for the Avios.

does this promo end for BA? or is it part of the 20:25 perk starpoints are known for?

Moshe

mordy

Can I transfer the avios back to starpoints with the bonus points?

jay

When will the next Amex to Avios bonus deal be?

dave

bmgboy

Do avois expire?? Should I take advantage and transfer all my points to avos even if I don’t have imm plans on using them?

ah

What other hotel points does this include and is it worth converting others?

nathan

How would I use the avios for a flight on air Berlin to go to Israel. I have a wedding October 3rd. I want to go from los Angeles to Tel Aviv

mendy

I need advice. I am looking to go to seattle for sukkos, I have amex points I would like to use, I was told I should transfer them to avios, how do I go about redeeming them? I checked the AA site and they have availability, I checked with Alaska air and they have availability as well, but when I check on Ba.com It says they don’t fly those routes, any advice on how I can work this out?

Garry

Mazel tov on your new daughter!!

Kevin

@Mendy:You need a avios account first.On Amex’s website you can convert the reward points to Avios. Then go back to British Airways,log in,click on spend Avios(on left),then click on book flights with avios,make sure you book choose a non-stop flight and then AA flights come up. If you have a AA credit card. Remove avios FF # before booking, and put AA ff # in,pay the $2.50 with AA(citi ) credit card-you may not have to but it certainly makes it easier to correct at airport, and your luggage is free. Took me a little while to figure out all of the steps (but I have tried it and it works). Also make sure on AA that everything is correct and confirmed

Kevin

The conversion is pretty fast but make sure it converted or the above won’t work

mjd612

@dan 1 question were you posting 2 hours before your kid was born from the hospital??????????

Anonymous

is this worth it?

Dan

@stephen:
Normally 20K SPG=25K miles not 31,250.

@Moshe:
I’ll get right on it…

@mordy:
Of course not. One way street.

@jay:
I’d guess by the end of the year.

@bmgboy:
They don’t expire as long as you earn or redeem a mile every 36 months.

@mendy:
As the knowledgebase says, you need to call BA to book Alaska flights.

@mjd612:
Didn’t need to go to the Hospital until 11:30.

@Anonymous:
Depends on your needs.

chana

If you’re selling all your types of miles, 20,000 SPG is more valuable than 32,250 Avios. BUT if you’re doing flights within the USA, avios gets you there.
I’m not going to fancy resorts that spg gives you. I’m doing the conversion so my kids in Toronto and Florida can come and go on my dime.

chana

When does it tell you they’re giving you the bonus points? It seems to say I’m just getting the regular 20:25 transfer?

J

@jay: October

So What

Is Air Berlin direct from NY to Israel? Is it a recommended flight?

Azis Papa

@Dan: Mazal Tov! May you have lots of Nachas from this child and all your children.

yyz

Dan, on starwoods website it says normally transfers 1 to 1 ratio not 1 to 1.25

Mendel

@yyz: It transfers at 1 to 1 ratio, but when you transfer 20,000 at a time it throws in another 5,000.

Marvin

@Mendel: that still only comes to 25,000 where is the additional 6250 coming in

Mendel

@Marvin: Starwood throws in 5,000. BA adds another 25% on top of that.

milechazzer

Is there any reason why this wouldn’t work for Nights & Flights transfers from SPG as well?

yahoo

Is the extra 6250 awarded automatically? I didnt know about this but just transferred 20k to BA 2 days ago. Should I expect to get the extra 6250 from BA?

Dan

@yahoo:
Automatic, but allow 4-6 weeks.

rivkie

I am a beginner. I need to book a ticket from CHgo to NY and want to use SPG points. IF i convert to BA AVios then can i only fly BA?

Dan

@rivkie:
You would fly American.

Bonus

Next AMEXtransfer bonus to BA is only 20 %

Dan

@Bonus:
Link?

Doh

Is this per account or transfer?

rivkie

@Dan:
how much points would it cost me? if i can buy a ticket for $215 is it worth it to save the points for another time?

brisker dude

dan, does this work for regular amex points? (amex business gold?).

Do you have a thread that I can read up about this? Thanks

puzzled

This isn’t working for me. I’m logged in to both programs and I enter the # of miles to transfer, click on “review transfer” & it just takes me to an SPG review activity screen. My miles aren’t changed and no activity is recorded. What am I missing?

Dan

@puzzled:
Try another browser.

Avi

Does 40,000 Starpoints really become 62,500 Avios? Whether you transfer 25K or 40K, you only get a 5K bonus from SPG. So 40K should become 56,250.

Dan

@Avi:
That’s false.
SPG provides a 5K bonus with every 20K transferred.

steve

I’m seeing it was extended till 10/20

Bonus

Told ya

Dan

@Bonus:
Then why didn’t you link to your source?

max

does this still work? dan, your link is not linking to the offer. where do you see this being extended?

bonus
