Starwood NYC Best Rate Guarantee Free Night Promotion Ending Tonight!
Update 2: DEAD!
Update: Although the link below says “discontinued” Starwood has confirmed that they will be honoring this promotion for submissions made by 11:59pm EDT tonight!
Starwood NYC Best Rate Guarantee Free Night Promotion Linky
This promo was supposed to run through 09/04/12, but it was just far too generous.
If you can find one of Starwood’s NYC hotels on another booking site for less than the price on spg.com you get a free night there.
You can use a site like Kayak to help find rates to compare to spg.com
Once you find a site with a lower rate you can fill out this claim form before making any reservation, making sure to write in the comments that you would like the NYC best rate free night and selecting the 2K free Starpoints.
SPG will then get back to your by email or phone and if the rate differential is still there when they verify the claim the night will be free. If the price on spg.com drops lower than the competitor site at the time of claim verification then you won’t get anything.
All submissions for this promotion must be completed by tonight, 06/12, at 11:59pm EDT.

10
June 12th, 2012 at 8:40 pm

12
June 12th, 2012 at 9:04 pm
Anyone here have a place in nyc where they found for cheaper then spg. Com???
13
June 12th, 2012 at 9:07 pm
does it only cover 1 of the nights or will it cover a week?
14
June 12th, 2012 at 9:09 pm
@Free night in nyc:
Just follow the instructions in the post, I found several.
@rcarentals:
1 night.
15
June 12th, 2012 at 9:12 pm
The link you give me is spg.com but don’t I have to find a price match to like kayak? For cheaper????
16
June 12th, 2012 at 9:20 pm
Can you submit more than one entry? Thanks.
17
June 12th, 2012 at 9:21 pm
Dan can you please give step. By step and show which hotels you can find cheaper then on spg Web Site? Thank you
18
June 12th, 2012 at 9:24 pm
is it for any room? or JUST the cheapest room?
can i book the presidential sweet and get it free b/c i found it cheaper? or just a regular room?
19
June 12th, 2012 at 9:27 pm
@Dhalpern1:
Yes, but you can only get 1 free night in total.
@I honestly don’t know how:
And have 10,000 people submitting a claim for the same hotel on the same night?
Nope.
@rcarentals:
Any room. But the rate that you are submitting as being cheaper must be for the same room type as the higher rate on spg.com
20
June 12th, 2012 at 9:27 pm
do you actually have to BOOK it? or can you just “quote it” as booking it for money you need to put a deposit on some of them, and cancellation fee (so it seems?)?
21
June 12th, 2012 at 9:34 pm
@rcarentals:
You do not have to book it to file the claim for a free night.
22
June 12th, 2012 at 9:37 pm
Should have posted this sooner – saw it last week on a different blog, got a $700 Sat night Suite at the W Times Square for free.

Hi Dan – question about BA and AA. I managed to finally book a flight on AA using my BA miles. I paid the 7.50 with my AA card (the AAdvantage Citi Visa Signature Platinum Level Card that I got the 75,000 miles last year). How does the free bags work? When I go to check in, do I just show them my card? Do I need to do anything beforehand? What about for my wife and child – how do I get free bags for them?

June 12th, 2012 at 9:56 pm

29
June 12th, 2012 at 10:24 pm
Dan,
Maybe we can email you our information and you can find us the hotel, book us the room, and get us the points also.
While you’re at it, could you also book some tickets and apply for some credit cards as well for us.
30
June 12th, 2012 at 10:26 pm
nm. I got it to work. Hope I hear back from then soon. Thanks Dan!
31
June 12th, 2012 at 10:31 pm
I think they are doing this just to mess with people. I understand some people have succeeded but it seems like finding a needle in a haystack.
32
June 12th, 2012 at 10:35 pm
Can someone cough up a hotel, date so that we can all save time?
33
June 12th, 2012 at 10:39 pm
To all the geniuses who did their homework, can you share?
34
June 12th, 2012 at 10:41 pm
@Saul: Put your AA number in the Res.
@Steven:
Try another browser.
35
June 12th, 2012 at 10:42 pm
Dan – you wanna assist? or should we just sit here with our tongues out
36
June 12th, 2012 at 10:43 pm
whats the big deal if you tell us a hotel and date?
37
June 12th, 2012 at 10:46 pm
Is there a way to do that online or do I call AA or BA?
38
June 12th, 2012 at 10:51 pm

43
June 12th, 2012 at 11:04 pm

44
June 12th, 2012 at 11:13 pm
Can I make 2 claims or only one?
45
June 12th, 2012 at 11:14 pm
For help to find a hotel use the dropdown on the Starwood website menu labeled “Competing Room Provider” and they’ll give you a lot of websites to find a better competing hotel prices!
46
June 12th, 2012 at 11:15 pm
if its a dollar less incl. tax does that count?
47
June 12th, 2012 at 11:31 pm
Does it need to be found online. I found cheaper rates for the St. Regis by calling a travel agent.
48
June 12th, 2012 at 11:39 pm
Not going to use the stay – 7/18 @ the W New York Downtown, Kayak $389 WHotels $429. Wish I could just grab the 2000 Standpoint. Hope this helps someone.
49
June 12th, 2012 at 11:48 pm
I wonder if starwood has a threshold pretax on this.
50
June 13th, 2012 at 12:01 am
forgot to write that i want the ny promo free night will i still receive it?
51
June 13th, 2012 at 12:05 am
if I forgot to write the NYC best rate free night in the comments do I stand a chance of getting them to honor it?
52
June 13th, 2012 at 12:06 am
I emailed them but didnt get confirmation email?
53
June 13th, 2012 at 12:56 am
@anon: according to the terms and condiotions, no.
54
June 13th, 2012 at 1:45 am
@Rosenfeld
How stupid are you? If San or steve or anybody would post a date/place, 5,000 people would submit the same claim and starwood would pull their rate in no time. (If anything, people would post it on dansdeals forum so at least they would be helping fellow forum members – people who actually contribute to a community. )
@Everyone else
READ THE POST BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS. DAN INCLUDED ALL THE DETAILS/GUIDELINES/T&C IN THE POST
55
June 13th, 2012 at 10:00 am
Do pennies count?
Found $269.79 vs. $270.25 (diff. is in how they calculate taxes and fees – room rate is the same)
…no luck, right?
56
June 13th, 2012 at 10:07 am
Thanks Dan! Took a little while but I found one. I hope this works!
57
June 13th, 2012 at 10:15 am
where’s the link to terms and conditions saying it’s over? when was the original end date?
58
June 13th, 2012 at 10:49 am
Dead as of when? a few minutes ago or all submissions in past few hours won’t work?
59
June 13th, 2012 at 10:53 am
@Judah:
As the post says “All submissions for this promotion must be completed by tonight, 06/12, at 11:59pm EDT.”
60
June 13th, 2012 at 11:02 am
Even though free night promo is over, is the 2K promo still going on?
61
June 13th, 2012 at 11:04 am
Oh my bad. Thought we had all day today…..grrr.
62
June 13th, 2012 at 11:05 am
Dan- thanks for providing this. I know its a matter of time before we all find out. But think Jetsetter is a reliable enough site to have submitted for a comparison to starwood?
Thanks again.
63
June 13th, 2012 at 3:02 pm
Dan regarding my question at comment 25 and your response at 34, is there a way to do that online or do I call AA or BA?
64
June 13th, 2012 at 3:19 pm
@jayny: don’t see that stipulation listed anywhere on either starwood site, only dan noted it
65
June 13th, 2012 at 3:41 pm
@Saul:
