Registration will close after 250,000 cards have been enrolled.

Eligible cards:
-Consumer American Express issued primary and secondary cards.
-Business American Express issued primary and secondary cards.
-3rd party American Express cards.

Non-eligible:
-Macy’s American Express
-Corporate American Express Cards
-Gift/Prepaid cards.
-Cards opened after 11/26/11.

After registering there are 2 ways of earning gifts. Gifts are worth between $2 and $500 (plus you can gift 3 facebook friends their own $500 gifts as well!) You can even with 50,000 Membership Rewards points!

Limit of ten Gifts per Cardmember during the Promotion Period, regardless of method of participation.

Method 1: Spend $25 or more online at the following merchants websites between November 28 and December 21, 2011. Within 24 hours following your Qualifying Purchase, you will be sent an email which will advise you of the Gift you are eligible to receive with instructions as to how to claim it. While supplies of Gifts for each merchant lasts.

Method 2: Send in an envelope to get a gift.
-Hand write your name (exactly as it appears when you registered in the Promotion), complete address, city, state, ZIP code, phone number (including area code), email address and name of the Qualifying Merchant Gift Pool in which you would like to participate (while supplies of Gifts in that Qualifying Merchant Gift Pool last) on a piece of paper and mail it in an envelope to:
“AMEX Holiday Gift Chain – Free To Participate Request”, P.O. BOX 4900, Fenton, MO 63099 (“Mail-In Request”).
-Requests must be postmarked by December 21, 2011 and received by December 28, 2011.
-Limit one (1) request per outer-postmarked envelope.
-Upon receipt of your request, a Sponsor representative will “participate” for you in the specified Qualifying Merchant Gift Pool and you will be sent an email which will advise you of the Gift that you are eligible to receive and how to claim it
-Free Participation requests mechanically reproduced or made in any fashion other than as specified herein are void.
-Any requests received from a Cardmember who has not registered his/her Card by the time the Free Participation request is received will be deemed null and void.
-If a request does not include the name of a Qualifying Merchant but is otherwise complete, Sponsor will randomly select a Qualifying Merchant Gift Pool into which request will be entered.
-Be sure to see the amount of eligible gifts for each merchant in the Gift Chain Official Rules.

    When i try to enroll my card it says “Sorry, you must have been a Cardmember prior to 11/27/11 to participate” any idea why that is? I was a card member for over 3 years now?

    Tried both mine and my wife’s cards, got the following message:

    “Sorry, you must have been a Cardmember prior to 11/27/11 to participate”

    I’ve been a cardmember since 2008. My card is at least a couple of months old. What gives?

    It only works with some specific cards ( as written in by the description ) maybe it doesn’t work with the typical cards that we have ( mines didn’t work either )

    Might be possible to do store pickup for Walmart and spend $25 to earn free gift. Should receive gift within few days to email. If you don’t pick up item in 7 days, automatically refunded. Unsure if AMEX would pull prize but I seriously doubt.

    It is currently rejecting one particular card for a different reason: Says my Hilton Amex was not opened before 11/27. That would a false statement.

    I was able to register my Citi AAdvantage Amex (got my email saying it was good) but not my HHonors Amex (Must be a card member before 11/27 – Which I am). Question, how many times can you mail in an entry form? As many times as you want, one for each, or one total?

    For those looking to mail in registration, I’m guessing the gifts will be gone by then. I’d just go the buy/return route if you want to take a gamble.

    @Chris: Gifts in each Qualifying Merchant Gift Pool are randomly time seeded throughout the Promotion Period and distributed to the first person who completes a Qualifying Purchase and/or a Free Participation (as applicable) for the applicable Qualifying Merchant on or after the time the Gift is randomly seeded

    It looks like they will randomly be ‘seeding’ throuought the next month. It’s all a matter of luck and timing. I could send in a mailing in 3 weeks and ‘happen’ to arrive right after a ‘seeding’ and win.

    Just worked for me with a Citi AA AMEX.

    Any idea if WM gift cards will work? I regularly purchase them for my wife to use at Sam’s, in order to transfer the spending to the AMEX (towards the 75k reward.)

    Anybody else notice that they are valuing MR points at .9 cents each? If you win one of those big point prizes and you don’t have an MR account, they award the cash and you get screwed.
