Here’s yet another way of using your Starpoints to get to Israel.

Air Berlin is one of the dozens of airlines that you can transfer your Starpoints to. 20,000 Starpoints becomes 25,000 Air Berlin miles.

Air Berlin flies to Tel Aviv via Dusseldorf or Berlin.

To search for these flights you will need to create an Air Berlin TopBonus account on their site and then click on redeem miles.

Availability is sporadic. There may be no flights for months and then some months there’s great availability.
It’s easier to search for availability by searching just one-way at a time.

From JFK there is availability pretty much every Sunday until May, but it seems hard to find return availability. Then from May and on there is tons of return avaialbility but the only outbound flights appear to be on Saturday.

From Los Angeles there is little availability until May, but from May through October there is tons of avaialbility in both directions.

Here are some sample available itineraries:

From JFK:

JFK-TLV 04/22-05/02 is 40,000 Starpoints round-trip with $0 tax.

Here are the redemption options:
Coach: 30,000 miles+$486 tax or 50,000 miles +$0 tax.
Business: 45,000 miles+$486 tax or 65,000 miles +$0 tax

JFK-DUS: 17:25-07:00 AB7451
DUS-TLV: 08:40-14:00 AB8804
TLV-TXL: 04:50-08:05 AB8903
TXL-JFK: 13:00-15:45 AB7248

From Los Angeles:

LAX-TLV 06/11-06/20 is 40,000 Starpoints round-trip with $0 tax.

Coach: 30,000 miles+$514 tax or 50,000 miles +$0 tax.
Business: 45,000 miles+$514 tax or 65,000 miles +$0 tax

LAX-TXL: 14:45-10:40 AB7023
TXL-TLV: 22:35-03:35 AB8902
TLV-TXL: 04:50-08:05 AB8903
TXL-LAX: 10:00-12:50 AB7022

The business is a much better value then, no?

Anonymous

i’m confused,they have mile surcharges or not?

Dan

@yeshivaman:
It usually is.

@Anonymous:
You have the option of paying 50K miles instead of 30K and avoid paying any taxes.

Danny

I love this website but Dan pls try yo get cheep tics fr Israel to Miami not only visavresa and not only for miles

Alissa

I am looking to go at the end of December. I tried looking up the availability on the site but was kind of confused. Did you see any availability for then?

yossi

How can i buy startpoints? If i do buy points, is it worth it?

yoel

i do a search but nothing shows up at all, just a blank response. Does this mean no availability?

Dan

@yossi:
You can buy points at spg.com for 2.8 cents each, or you can earn points by opening up and spending on their credit cards.

Meir

It takes about a week to transfer in starwoods points
There is no guarantee that the availability will still be there

yossi

Thank you Dan

dave

Dan can u cancel ticket or change dates?

mosie

hi dan thanx again 4 a gr8 deal! can this be used from israel to ny?

Anonymous

Airberlin and British airways are part of the same partnership. Would i be able to either transfer BA miles to them or book through BA and use miles that way?

Dan

@mosie:
Sure.

@Anonymous:
You can’t transfer airline miles. BA would be happy to book you, but it would be at BA rates and with fuel surcharges.

Uri

Thanks Dan, can I just buy one way ticket?

Anonymous

@Danny:

Dan doesn’t make the deals to order. I’m pretty sure he posts all the great deals out there.

Dan

@Uri:
Yes.

@Anonymous:
Some people seem to think I make the airfare deals…

Mordche

Is there any way to reserve seats??

rachel

Are these their regular awards or is it a special?

Dan

@Mordche:
No.

@rachel:
It appears to be regular pricing, but it’s possible that it’s a mistake, so take advantage while you can!

Berliner

How long do the Starpoints take to transfer into Air Berlin?

mottel tzaddik

what does “blank” mean?

ely

dan, can you please post a good deal for chanuka from nyc to miami or fll from dec 21 – 27. Alota people are trying to get great deals tickets are up too $400 or more
thanks

Shmiel

How many AA miles does it take to book a USA-TLV RT on AB?
And do you know if AA will impose fuel surcharges on AB flights?

Dan

@Shmiel:
80K off-peak or 90K peak, just like on anyone else via Europe.
AA only charges fuel surcharges for travel on BA.

Shmiel

@Dan:
Thanks. This is good news, another OneWorld partner to use to get to TLV, with no “co-pay”

chez

Dan,
I only have Chase Sapphire Preferred points…is it worth trading them or selling them and buying starwood points?
