20,000 Starpoints normally transfer into 25,000 airline miles (with some exceptions where you get 12,500 or 50,000 miles).

If you register and transfer 20,000 Starpoints to Air Canada’s Aeroplan program by 09/18 you will get 30,000 miles instead of 25,000 miles.

Based on my own personal experience you can transfer your Starpoints into anyone’s Air Canada account, the names on the accounts do not have to match.

The bonus is valid once per Air Canada account.

Remember that Air Canada miles are best used for travel on their dozens of Star Alliance partners as they don’t charge a fuel surcharge when you fly on partner carriers.

what are the pros and cons of tranfering to air canada?
is this something i should jump on?
who do they partner with?
is there ever availibility on the partners?

Dan

@al:
They are part of Star Alliance which is the best network of carriers to redeem miles on.
If people want I can make a post on the nuances between redeeming miles from different Star Alliance carriers like Air Canada, Continental, and USAirways.

zev

Sure people want!

asks

@Dan: that sounds useful, thanks

j k

@Dan: yes please!

Ely

What is the fuel surcharge on air canada flights? i.e baltimore to toronto

Jack

Thanks Dan, we always appreciate it!

zev

by the way, I had done as you say often, applied using 3 different browsers at the same time, go only one card. Does it make sense to you? Thanks!

Dan

@Ely:
It varies for every flight, but it won’t be cheap.
Better off using them for partner airlines like Continental, United, or USAirways.

@zev:
The advantage of that method is that you only get 1 credit inquiry. Now you just have to call reconsideration and negotiate to get the other cards approved.

Hudi

FYI: Aeroplan recently increased the number of miles needed to book award travel. Europe seems to be the only destination cheaper then the other star alliance carriers.

danfan

does anybody have experience with aeroplan redemption to get the most value from the miles on getting from Toronto to Tel Aviv (Israel)

Which star alliance airline to fly with?
take a stop over/direct?

I have apx,. 250,000 aeroplan miles and i want to use them.

thanks,

Dan

@Hudi:
True, though they actually lowered their rates to Israel which had been very high.

@danfan:

r

can you use aircanada miles to book domestic flights on other star alliance airlines?

Dan

@r:
Yes.

r

how many aircanada miles does it cost to book a standard domestic flight on a star alliance airline? are there fuel surcharges?

Dan

@r:
These questions can all be answered by looking at their award chart (I even linked to it in the post!) and reading what I wrote in the post.

JA

@Ely: Fuel surcharge (YQ) would be $27 one way.

Devorah

Note that using Aeroplan miles to book other Star Alliance partners will still result in higher taxes, even though they don’t charge a fuel surcharge.

Dan

@Devorah:
I’ve never heard of that. Care to give an example?

Jane

Dan,
The T&C indicate tht there is a “Maximum 5,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles can be earned per participating partner loyalty program per Aeroplan Member during this promotion.”
Does that mean transferring 25000 hotel points is the max we can do?
Jane

Dan

@Jane:
Yes, you will be limited to 1 transfer of 20,000 Starpoints which will earn you 30,000 Aeroplan miles.

You can transfer to multiple Aeroplan accounts though and each registered account will get that bonus.

Devorah

@Dan:

Just check out LAX-EWR. On CO, it’s $2.50, on Aeroplan $7.
or worse YYZ-LGA. On CO, it’s $53.80, on Aeroplan $69.66.

Dan

@Devorah:
Don’t have enough miles to see that, but it is interesting. At any rate it doesn’t seem too terrible.

Devorah

Actually that’s for one way. If you do round-trip from EWR-YYZ, its $56.30 on CO vs $93.16 on Aeroplan. And Aeroplan will charge you 25K miles (they only give you the 15K miles rate for travel on AC) vs CO’s 20K.

Then again, they don’t charge a close-in fee which can sometimes make a big difference.

josh

can I transfer my aeroplan points into starwood, then transfer it back from starwood to aeroplan to get this offer?

Sasha

Dan, Can aeroplan accounts be combined?
