WOW Air plans to fly from Iceland to Israel starting in June.

WOW serves or plans to serve 10 North American cities: Baltimore, Boston, Chicago Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, Newark, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Toronto. You’ll be able to connect from those cities to Tel Aviv via Reykjavik.

They’re fashioned as a ULCC (Ultra low-cost carrier) like Spirit, but WOW.

They advertise cheap fares, but the extras add up quickly.

For a round-trip from the east coast to Europe you’ll pay:
-$102/$140 for a carry-on bag paid for in advance/at checkin. You’ll pay an additional $60 if it doesn’t fit in their bag sizer.
-$142/$160 for a 44 pound checked bag paid for in advance/at checkin. You’ll pay an additional $18.18 per pound over 44 pounds.
-Reserving a seat will set you back an additional $40-$200 depending on the seat.
-Water, soda, and snacks cost extra.
-There’s no Wi-Fi or entertainment onboard.

They haven’t yet announced if the fees for Israel flights will be higher than Europe.

Is it time for airlines around the world to temporarily suspend operations?

Never flown on spirit or any other ulcc, but if they have premium economy, I’d def fly.

Shlomo

How safe is WOW? Both in terms of their planes and in terms of security?

Viko

No food or entertainment on a long haul flight…. I don’t think so

This probably won’t be a good option for a family of 6 traveling for pesach. But for a student who doesn’t mind roughing it, it can be a great deal. And also a good opportunity to see Iceland.

Adolf

What is their price to Europe?

@shlomo
The FAA regulates the airline industry. They have standards that must be met. All airlines must meet these standards. What can what airline do to be safer than another airline?

jr

@Viko: im sure they will have some sort of meals on a really long flight, but still charge

Something Fishy

I would do it if they came up with some sort of long layover option that is paid for , i.e. turkish airlines, air serbia

can u bring a backpack andthat wont count as carry on like with spirit?

Emgee

We all fly business, so it’s not relevant to us. 😜

This is going to be worse than Israir, WOW

Are there bathrooms on the plane?
Is there an extra charge to use them?

Can you use Chase Ultimate Rewards Points for this?

Dan's the Man

Can you bring a personal item for free like on Spirit/Frontier? If so I’d go for a good price if I’m going for a week and can stuff it in personal item bag.

@Viko: Just take a sleeping pill

Food and entertainment are the least of it — you can bring your own. Comfort is different, since you can’t bang your own seat.

“@Shlomo:
All airlines flying to the US are safe.”

But some airlines are safer than others. Jetblue with an ultra-young fleet is going to be safer than Delta flying MD-80s that are older than you and have had loads of compression/decompression cycles. All hospitals in the US are safe–now, do you want your heart operation at NYU or at Podonk Community Hospital, NoWheresville Rural Extension?

Eli

@Viko:
For the amount of money ur saving, u could buy a tablet and fill it up with entertaining and pack food.

Herbert

Good luck flying these type crappy operators. Maybe they will just strap you to the wing and you can fly for $10 bucks and let you freeze your tuchos off.

@Anonymous: there are a limited number of bathrooms. Fortunately they do not charge for usage….yet.

Jack out of the box

I just called the airline and they said that it is not yet final that they will be flying to TLV. (There is no information on their website about TLV.)
