We just came back from Israel flying turkish air. The crew and staff were wonderful. The good from jfk to Istanbul was not bad. The sandwich from Istanbul to Tel Aviv was inedible. Soggy and tasteless. Good thing we brought our own food just in case. As enjoyable as the flights were (their entertainment center was incredible), the Istanbul airport was absolutely horrendous. Right out of a third world airport. The airport is beyond huge. My husband and I ordered wheelchairs. We had a four hour layover in Istanbul and we weren’t taken to our connecting flight until 20 minutes to takeoff (!!!!)we really thought we were going to miss the flight. Coming back I insisted that we be taken to the gate right away. Just so you know. You’re taken off the plane with a wheelchair. Deposited in a waiting area. And we had to sit there and wait for the second “leg” of the wheelchair trip. So my suggestion is to insist to be taken to the gate way before takeoff and then insist on the second leg. Keep nagging the guy sitting there who really doesn’t do anything. I hope their new airport will be a bit better organized. All in all, again we have no complaints as dat as Turkish air is concerned but the airport makes the one in Tampa/st Pete look luxurious.
If by “Tampa/st Pete” you are referring to Tampa Intll (TPA), TPA happens to be a very clean, modern, comfortable airport. Having a centralized airport system, where a train circles the various terminals really makes navigation easy. + having one car rental center is very convenient.
