Opting Into Uber Family Still Giving Out Free Rides

Ive used Uber many times and I am extremely satisfied with the service and app.

My two biggest issues are when in NYC where it is difficult to pinpoint where the pickup will be due to the GPS not pinpointing perfectly due to the tall buildings. It all works out since the app gives you the drivers contact info and vice versa so the odds are either you will call the driver or the driver calls you. Its a pain.

My second issue is that when there is a shortage of open cars due to heavy usage they charge you 1.75 to 2.0 times the going rate. They prompt you before and even make you type in the numbers confirming this, but at times like this it is definitely not worth it to use the service.

Also, dont be fooled by Uber Black Car. Yes it may be a nicer car, but UberX cars ive been in have been amazing. even if its a Camry or an Accord (once I even got a Mitsubishsi small SUV), ive only had comfy cars with leather seats, nicely air conditioned…… overall really good experiences.

1. You can enter an address instead of using GPS. Definitely the way to go.

2. I got that Sunday but waited 5 minutes and it was gone. I’ve yet to run into that issue any other time.

3. I did only UberX on Sunday and got a Suburban, Town Car, and Avalon.
No need to splurge for Black indeed!

@Dan: 1. Thanks. Did not realize that. Ive just been pressing set pickup location and did not realize it can be changed.

2. I thought I could wait too but after 20 minutes I gave up and just ordered a Black Car.

Im surprised I havent seen you post about Lyft. they just came to NYC and are offering 50 free rides (max $25 per ride, pay any additional) for the next week and a half. Ironically it was an Uber driver that told me about it as he drives for both.

FYI their app can really use work. Especially needed is increased functionality and options, but I am sure that will come soon. For exapmle, you can share to Twitter with your unique reference code. ??? Really??? Im sure theyll get it though.

Is the 50 rides for everyone who signs up? Do they actually have available cars?

@Dan: I signed up on Friday so I wouldnt know about today. I would assume so, but you never know. There were cars available though. The Uber driver was telling me that they are offering drivers tremendous referral fees so drivers are switching from Uber to Lyft like flys. FYI he also told me Lyft does an extensive criminal background check which may important to some.

Can this be used in Venice, Italy?

I just entered in FAMILY in promos online, which was accepted, but I haven’t gotten any email and the promo doesn’t show in my PROMOS section when I log in. My yahoo email account doesn’t have a “promos” tab. Am I left out of this?

is it possible to make reservations only on the app ?
