While the terms don’t officially allow for gift cards, you will get reimbursed for physical gift card purchases, based on my experience. Unfortunately, those are only sold for a minimum of $150 online, so you would effectively get a 33.3% discount on those. Online eGift cards won’t work.
However, you can buy $50 gift cards in Saks Fifth Avenue stores and those will be reimbursed in full based on my experience. However some people have reported getting those credits clawed back.
While this offer is not valid at Saks OFF 5TH, gift cards bought from Saks will work at both Saks and Saks OFF 5TH.

easiest way to secure a gift card is to buy something and then return it. When you fill out the return request, there is an option to get a gift card instead of a refund to your AMEX
Ive tried that but when returning through shoprunner i didnt have that option
I just used my $50. I don’t think you should be returning anything with this benefit because there is no minimum purchase and if customers do sneaky things like returning for a gift card eventually they will discontinue the benefit.

I’ve had good results using the credit to order food. Click on “Home”, then “Gourmet Food and Candy”. The crab cakes are good, as are the steak burgers from Chicago Steak Company. You could also get a few tins of different flavored teas.
Since there is no SAKS fifth avenue store where I live, is it possible to buy a SAKS fifth avenue physical gift card from a SAKS OFF fifth store nearby to trigger the $50 credit ?
