I bought it, thinking that it would extend my old subscription. Instead, Amazon initiated a second concurrent subscription. I called them up and they said that they don’t have the ability to extend the subscription. Lesson learned – buy Microsoft products from Microsoft. They WILL extend the subscription.

Answer:It will start after your current subscription expires. Any new Office 365 subscription will automatically add on to the currently active one.

Amazon will provide you with a code that you can enter in on your Microsoft account. The code will extend your current membership by one year. I just did it!

The difference will be that when you click on your 365 subscription you will be directed to the Amazon site. so you will not see the subscription renewal info on the Microsoft site … it will now be kept in the Amazon Subscription section. But the information you received is correct … your subscription will be extended by 12 months. i just did it too 🙂 see less

I saw that before I made the purchase, but notice that that answer was posted 3 years ago. Apparently it does not work that way today. There is no “code” to apply – Amazon just starts a new subscription.
I had to call to cancel my order. When I told the CSR about the above answer, he said that only Microsoft extends the subscription, not Amazon (due to the fact that Amazon is a third party seller).
A bummer – this is a great price.
Someone posted on another site that both old and new subscriptions show up after purchase (the new one expires 12 months from today), but eventually they merge into one subscription with the 12 months added to the end of the prior subscription.
I called Amazon again and the CSR didn’t know what I was talking about (again), but this time he transferred me to “his colleague” who told me that the two subscriptions will merge in 5 to 7 business days.
I decided to reorder and take a chance. [I am also hoping that it renews in a year and a half at the same price.] Wish me luck.
