I’ve heard that the chocolate Oreos are pareve even though they have the ‘D’
You’ve “heard.” And I have read. All of which doesn’t mean much unless you are looking for an excuse to call the products pareve.
The Orthodox Union was explicitly clear. “Please bear in mind that the manufacturer may choose in the future to reformulate these products and add dairy ingredients. Since these products already bear OUD symbols, formulation changes may not be reflected in the OUD logo.”
My understanding is that Oreos, at least the regular version, have no dairy ingredients, but are made on dairy equipment. Does someone who eats only CY milk generally eat Oreos?
What is CY milk? and why do you ‘eat’ it?
CY stands for Chalav Yisrael. It simply means that the milk meets very strict standards of Kosher laws. Essentially, a Rabbi trained in Kosher certification observed the milk from the time it exited the cow until it was bottled. It costs far more, and generally has a shorter shelf life. Rabbi Moshe Feinstein was of the opinion that CY is not required in the USA given the strict government laws around milk and dairy products. However, many ultra-Orthodox, and the Chabadniks, tend to be strict about CY.

I spoke to the OU on numerous occasions and they told me only the black and white ones are DE. However to check every few months if the production line changes. Which was the case with the other flavors.
