can you set parental controls on this?

This is an e-book reader, not a tablet. You are probably confusing this with the Kindle Fire series.

I dont want my kids to be able to access all books…I would want a password before downloading a book. Is that an option

There are a few ways of getting books onto this.
1. Connecting it to a PC or Mac.
2. Purchasing it on Amazon and sending it to your kindle.
3. Emailing the file to the Kindle’s email address.

What you would do is:
1. Load the books that you wish to be on there.
2. Sign out of your Amazon account.

In reality, if you are loading the books via a computer and cable, you never really have to log into your Amazon account in the first place.

Once the books are on, you can disconnect the wifi.

The setup requires wifi I believe to auto update the software.

Best of luck.

Thanks so much.

You can make a child account or you can enable parental controls and disable the web browser and kindle store.
Either way the child will not have access to the Kindle store.

If you use a child account you will not be able to share books that you didn’t get from the kindle store.
