First of all let me just start by saying that this is one of the best board games in the world. Sure, Risk is a great game-but admit it, it can get boring playing against the same people when you each have the same strategy that you use every time.
The great thing about the settlers of catan (that almost no other traditional board game has) is that the entire board completely changes every time you play, so that it is impossible to have one strategy that will work every time. With each time you set up the board you will have to very quickly strategize on the best placement in order to win the game.
This game retails for over $40 and is rarely on sale, $27.99 is the lowest price that I’ve seen for it to date!

The settlers of catan is a game for 2-4 players (although it gets a lot harder with 4 players.) Amazon also has the 5-6 player expansion pack on sale as well for just $15.99. I’d recommend using the 5-6 player expansion pack even if you only have 4 players. You need to buy the regular settlers of catan game for the 5-6 player expansion to work.
Once you’re hooked on the settlers of catan check out the rest of the expansion packs for settlers of catan like the seafarers of catan and the cities and knights of catan and the rest of the catan games!
