Amazon Prime Pantry sells everyday household goods at discounted prices.
Currently, every item sold by Amazon Prime Pantry takes up a given percentage of a large pantry box and Amazon charges a flat $5.99 shipping rate for each pantry box. You must have Amazon Prime to take advantage of Prime Pantry pricing.
There are also Prime Pantry promotions, such as $6 off when you buy 5 select items and $5 No-rush credits.
Amazon is betting that the service will be more successful with its own $4.99 Prime Pantry monthly subscription fee. That monthly fee will allow you to get free shipping on $40+ Prime Pantry orders.
Subscription fees for the rights to spend money at a store don’t always work as intended. In 2015 Jet.com dropped its subscription based model shortly after it launched and instead raised their free shipping threshold. Early last year Walmart killed its ShippingPass subscription option to pay for unlimited free shipping. And Google Express abandoned its $99 annual subscription last year as well, opting to raise the free shipping threshold and the prices of many products. Amazon Prime and Costco are 2 of the companies that thrive off of the billions of dollars they take in annually from subscription fees, but it doesn’t work for many companies that try to make that model work.
Amazon will continue to allow Prime members to order Prime Pantry items without a monthly Prime Pantry subscription, but they will be raising the cost from $5.99 to $7.99 per box.
The new Prime Pantry subscriptions option will be rolled out to various markets throughout this year.

Nope
Nope! For most household items Walmart has equal or cheaper prices.
for a subscription fee AND a minimum purchase.. definitely not
Same here
Ditto.
Isn’t prime pantry with a subscription the same thing as amazon fresh?
No!…. As Charles said….
Seems like there doing walmart a favor
It seemed way too complicated for single person that doesn’t need all that much stuff. Now it seems even more complicated/more expensive on top of the yearly prime fee
Definitely not. Prime pantry isn’t that cheap at all…
Prime Pantry was never worthwhile – I always avoided it. This will flop like the fire phone.
Not only will I not subscribe, I won’t pay $8 shipping either, unless I get free shipping, I can buy pretty much most of the items from Walmart with free 2 day shipping after spending $35
The only good thing about Prime Pantry is using it to avoid add-on restrictions.
I would not use it. I use Prime Pantry a lot now but I already pay for prime and 4.99 a box, I will not pay more for so-so prices.
It’s time to try out Walmart.
PP is worthwhile for people who live in rural areas, not close to a Walmart. That’s a about it.
nope
I used it a couple of times, but it was confusing and hard to make it worthwhile. On a positive note, they did stock a few items that I had trouble finding elsewhere and they were offered at a reasonable price.
Walmart is much better. Also, on a lot of random orders target is cheaper and you get return shipping labels for free with the press of a button,no questions asked! You can also subscribe to save.Target rox!
