Let the grocery wars begin!

Amazon announced that they would buy Whole Foods in June and today they announced that lower prices on grocery staples will start to go into effect on Monday when the merger is finalized. Apparently the “Whole Paycheck” moniker will become a thing of the past.

Jeff Wilke, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Consumer said that, “Everybody should be able to eat Whole Foods Market quality — we will lower prices without compromising Whole Foods Market’s long-held commitment to the highest standards.”

Down the line, Amazon is also going to provide Whole Foods shoppers with additional discounts and rewards for being an Amazon Prime member.

Amazon will also start adding pickup and return lockers at select locations. I returned an item to Amazon’s downtown Cleveland pickup and return center and it was great. I just handed in the item without needing to box and tape it up.

The real question is, how long will it take until Amazon can roll out this concept nationwide?

Amazon offers free shipping with $35+ orders or get free next-day shipping on all orders with a free trial of Amazon Prime. Prime members can share benefits with a Household member here, allowing them to double up on Amazon Prime promos!  A 6 month trial and discounted Prime membership is available with Amazon Student. Why scary? As taxes are crushing the middle class we can definitely use a break on our grocery shopping…

Amazon dominating the retail sector of our economy?

Maybe he owns a grocery store? 😉

just a shame that people on food stamps will get prime for reduced or free thanks to amazon….. and have all the things that go along with it……but the elderly, disabled and middle income workers won’t get that break.

FAKE NEWS!!!

Time will tell!
I understand that retail and especially food retail is very complicated. Selling food retail in multiple jurisdictions is a complex business that is not as easily scaleable. A manager in New York is totally clueless about regulations in Chicago or even a suburb. There is a limit to how much suppliers can be pushed and this business is already well entrenched.

I am all for lower prices but I predict that there will be less changes than people expect.

With Google and Walmart vs Amazon should make it great for shoppers

google express just canceled mempership fees BUT raised minimum orders to $25 to $35 and more importantly RAISED COSTCO PRICES 15-35 PERCENT !!! NOT MATCHING COSTCO STORE PRICES ANYMORE !!!

I am not showing this to be true on my account… I compared my last years previous orders and don’t see any price hikes…

I am very concerned that the next day deliveries we will never be available anymore with the new flux of bizz…
