Once upon a time, Amazon made everything simple. But with optimizations and A/B testing, many people will now have different site experiences.

One pain point we have seen in comments is the new coupon system Amazon has introduced. Especially for those checking out on their phone.

Amazon used to have a coupon field on the final checkout page with an easy to apply field; now it is a bit more obscure. I will detail the most common ways to apply a coupon on Amazon below.

On Desktop:

On the final checkout page select “Use a gift card, voucher, or promo code”:

Scroll down below your saved payment methods and simply put the code in the box and hit Apply:

One quirk is that to see the discount you will then have to select “Use this payment method” and proceed to the final checkout page, before you actually see the discount applied:

Once on the final checkout page, you will now be able to see if the discount worked.

One positive thing about this change is that this process now also works with Subscribe & Save checkout by selecting to change your payment method. You used to have to apply a code by selecting One-Time checkout and then return to the product page to checkout via Subscribe & Save with the discount applied.

On Mobile:

The process starts off the same, on the final checkout page select “Use a gift card, voucher, or promo code”:

Next, you need to toggle on the option to “Add a gift card, promo code, or voucher”:

Here is the important part that many people miss!

Once toggled on a coupon field will appear, you enter your code, and then you MUST select the little arrow on the right side of the coupon field to actually apply the coupon:

Many users make the mistake of entering the coupon and simply clicking on “Continue” which will never apply the coupon and leave the user confused.

Product page coupons:

One other way to apply a coupon I want to mention is on the product page itself.

There is the traditional clip the percent or dollar discount coupons you clip:

But there are also coupons that would traditionally require entering a code at checkout, but now you can simply click “Redeem” on the product page instead:

Often, you will find both coupons on the same product page, and you can simply clip both coupons with no need to enter a code.

I hope this clears up how to use Amazon coupons for some of our followers!

My mobile app has been working this way for a long time. Did it just hit iOS?

For a while it’s been making us think Amazon It’s just hoping we won’t do it right and won’t get the discount…

Excellent tutorial.
Thank you so much

I’ve made the mistake of not pressing the arrow a number of times before I got it ingrained in my head that I need to do it.

Eluzer

Thanks!

BTW, I tried the ‘dansdeals’ coupon, it doesn’t work for any item…

When is Amazon going to start shipping to Israel again?

Why does amazon have the least intuitive site in the world? Heck. Temu is even simpler, if not a bombarded smorgasbord of useless coupons… but at least they are not hiding them…

I actually have been having a different issue with their coupons. Sometimes they have buy 2 get 1 25% off. In the past it worked for the same item quantity 2. For some reason now it only applies if I add 2 different items from the same promotion. Is anyone else having the same issue?

Kay

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Appreciate it.
