Yesterday I wrote about excellent business class award space between the US and Madrid and mentioned that you could use the award space to also fly to other European cities.

You can also use this deal to book a business class flight to Israel via Madrid.

You can use Avios to book a business class flight with lie-flat seats on Iberia nonstop from Madrid to Tel Aviv with excellent availability.

Madrid to Tel Aviv is just 21,250 Avios+$70 and Tel Aviv to Madrid is just 21,250 Avios+$64. That’s just ~16,350 Chase points with the 30% transfer bonus!

You can combine that into one ticket by searching for award space from the US to Tel Aviv, but you’ll find more availability by booking separately, especially if you’re willing to stop over in Madrid. A round-trip from JFK to Tel Aviv via Madrid in lie-flat business class would cost 110,500 Avios or 85,000 Chase points round-trip.

Use a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, or Chase Sapphire Reserve® to earn 2-3 Chase points per dollar spent and get free trip cancellation/interruption insurance, travel accident insurance, luggage insurance, trip and luggage delay protection, and more!

Here’s what the award space looks like:

See yesterday’s post for dates with award space between the US and Madrid.

Alternatively, there’s an excellent sale on most dates for a one-way business class flight with lie-flat seats on Air Europa nonstop from Madrid to Tel Aviv or Tel Aviv to Madrid for just $478 or 31,037 AMEX points after the 35% rebate on the AMEX Business Platinum Card or 35,812 points after the 25% rebate on the AMEX Business Gold Card.

From the US to Tel Aviv, there’s a perfect 2:40 connection from the 5pm Iberia flight from JFK to Madrid to connect into Tel Aviv on Air Europa.

However, Iberia’s flight is better timed than Air Europa’s from Tel Aviv to Madrid to catch a same day connection to the US.

Will you use this award space to fly to the Holy Land?

Dan, just moved to the west coast, specifically SEA. What’s a good program to accumulate points in? Jealous to see all the good deals are from the east coast.

Hi Dan,

Why is JFK-MAD 50k Avios for me and MAD-TLV 31.25k?

Justmeha

Probably peak dates

alex1974

That’s what is is.
Thank you.

When stacking a mileage ticket from JFK-MAD and then using Amex or Chase points for MAD-TLV, you think 2.5 hours is enough time on a layover to go through customs, get bags and re-check in on another airline (or even same airline)? Same question if using all Avios, but booking the legs on separate tickets…or would Iberia join them together so you don’t have to go through customs and re-check in?

Iberia Luggage Issue on Separate Reservations

Just a PSA, when I booked TLV to JFK on Iberia in separate reservations, they made me collect my luggage in MAD and recheck it in for flight to JFK, even though all legs were on Iberia. Tried to get them to combine the PNR at TLV but the contract workers were less than helpful.
