Virgin Atlantic is offering 30% off economy and premium economy awards that are booked by 9/22.

You can transfer points from AMEX (1:1), Chase (1:1), Citi (1:1), or Starwood (20K:25K) to Virgin Atlantic.

You can search mileage requirements for Virgin Atlantic flights on their homepage without logging in.

I don’t care for Virgin Atlantic miles due to their high fuel surcharges, but one way awards to London can be a good value.

Sample mileage requirements including fuel surcharges:
-A one-way economy ticket from JFK to London is 12,250 miles+$134.60 (normally 17.5K miles).
-A one-way premium economy ticket from JFK to London is 19,250 miles+$264.60 (normally 27.5K miles).
-A one-way economy ticket from Los Angeles to London is 14,875 miles+$134.60 (normally 21,250 miles).
-A one-way premium economy ticket from Los Angeles to London is 24,500 miles+$264.60 (normally 35K miles).

Tickets from London to the US get hit with fuel surcharges and UK APD:
-A one-way economy ticket from London to JFK is 12,250 miles+$235.32
-A one-way premium economy ticket from London to JFK is 19,250 miles+$387.48
-A one-way economy ticket from London to Los Angeles is 14,875 miles+$255.23
-A one-way premium economy ticket from London to Los Angeles is 24,500 miles+$404.78

It’s worth noting that fuel surcharges are less when you book 2 one-way tickets as opposed to a round-trip ticket.

hey Dan,

any chance you can write/post a Blog telling us which credit card are best to sign up for.

Just used 37,500 Virgin Atlantic miles to fly back on Virgin America one-way from LAX-EWR for a red eye flight on September 5th. Considering that there was no saver availability in economy or business/or good prices back to NYC area on other airlines this was a good deal. I got a good solid 4 hours of sleep. Sure it was not a lie flat seat but it was a comfy recliner with lots of room and did the job with me having a productive day the next day. I would never transfer miles into Virgin Atlantic, instead I’ve churned the credit card from Bank of America many times. Effectively paid $140 for the flight ($90 annual fee per every 25,000 miles plus $5.60 taxes). The miles are not high on my list but they have good situational uses and it’s good to have a a stash of them handy.

Dumb question but is Virgin American the same as virgin Atlantic? I have 40k Virgin points from the JetBlue deal and id love to use it here
