With 18 Active COVID-19 Cases, Kauai Will Shut Down Again

The island of Kauai will once again require a 14 day quarantine starting on 12/2.

Just last month Hawaii lifted the state-wide 14 day quarantine requirement that had been in place since March.

Kauai currently has 18 active COVID-19 cases and no hospitalizations, but the island has few ICU beds and the island’s mayor requested that the quarantine be reinstated, which Hawaii’s governor has granted.

Hotels like the Grand Hyatt Kauai which just reopened earlier this month now face shutting down again.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Big Island of Hawaii request permission to reinstate the quarantine there as well.

Do you have plans to visit Hawaii?

Oh my, I have a trip planned to Maui for new year.. I think it would be safer to make alternative plans..

Was really looking forward going to Hawaii for the first time. Scrubed those plans for now, seems to risky at this point. Doing cancun instead, they have been consistently open for months now.

It seems unwise to plan a Hawaii vacation until the Covid crisis shows signs of winding down. I’d treat it like an int’l destination. Better to wait than deal with the travel uncertainties. I’m staying in the Lower 48 until I KNOW I’ll be able to go

So never

Between the vaccine hopes and the fact that there has never been a third wave on a coronavirus, I think late spring might be hopeful for reliable int’l travel (and paranoid Hawaii). But would I buy a new ticket for May int’l travel now? No I would not. You’re just buying a potential headache. I guess at a crazy price you could take your changes. Otherwise, wait for real signs of hope.

I am SO disappointed about this. We had plans for a 3 weeks vacation to Kauai in January..Would have loved to support local businesses and restaurants while we were there… now it looks like that won’t happen.

AW

Hawaii here we come

Yes. Oahu and Big Island for end of December. Still hoping to go but we have a Plan B in place (FL). Hawaii is much much safer.
