-$195 annual fee.

Triggering the $50 or $100 statement credit:

Any Delta purchase will trigger the statement credit. There is no minimum Delta purchase required, even a $2 snack or drink on a Delta flight will trigger the full $50 or $100 credit!

Sample purchases include Delta gift cards or eGift cards, food or drinks on a Delta flight, baggage fees, tickets, upgrades, change fees, club entrance fees, etc.

All 4 Delta cards:

-Offer a free checked bag for the primary cardholder and up to 8 companions on the same reservation. You do not need to book tickets on your Delta card for this benefit, you only need to have your Skymiles number in the reservation. That’s critical as it allows you to still get free bags with Hybrid points or allows you to use a card like the AMEX Platinum Card to earn 5 points per dollar.
-Have no foreign transaction fees.
-Offer Zone 1 Priority Boarding on Delta flights for the primary cardholder and up to 8 companions on the same reservation so that you won’t have to gate-check your carry-ons.
-Offer 2 Delta miles per dollar on flight purchases from Delta.
-Offer a 20% savings in the form of a statement credit on eligible pre-purchased meals, in-flight purchases of food, alcoholic beverages and audio headsets, and movies, shows and video games accessed via Delta’s seatback in-flight entertainment system, on Delta-operated flights.
-Waive the Medallion Qualification Dollar requirement to reach Medallion status if you spend $25,000 on the cards in that calendar year. Eligible Purchases will be combined across multiple Delta cards of the primary cardholder if those accounts are linked to the same SkyMiles number.
-Offer $29 per person discounted SkyClub lounge access for the cardmember and up to 2 guests.
-Offer return protection that allows you to return items to AMEX for a full refund when a store won’t take an item back within 90 days of the date of purchase, up to $300 per item and $1,000 per card per calendar year. If AMEX requests that the item be returned they will provide a free shipping label, though in most people’s experience you don’t typically have to actually send the item back for a refund.
-Offer AMEX protections like purchase protection, extended warranty, dispute resolution, CDW car rental insurance, and more.
-Offer free Shoprunner membership for 2nd day free shipping and returns.
-Offer free additional cardholders (up to 99 per account). Additional cardholders are each eligible for American promotions like Small Business Saturday, Twitter offers, etc.

Delta Miles:

I have mixed feelings about Delta miles or “Skypesos.”

Traditionally they have had terrible saver award availability. However that has improved of late and it’s now significantly better than American’s availability, though it’s not as good as United’s.

Delta’s miles also never expire.

However Delta doesn’t publish award charts anymore as they feel than an uneducated customer is their best customer. That’s beyond frustrating. Recently they increased the miles needed for partner flights without warning.

They don’t charge a close-in award fee, but it can be tough to find saver award space available within 3 weeks.

However there are still plenty of good uses of Delta miles, especially as American’s award availability has gone down the drain.

Delta’s one-way flexible award calendar that can be set to search for 5 weeks at a time is also a marked improvement over their old buggy award calendar.

Delta has also lowered the cost of some domestic saver awards from a flat 12.5K to as low as 5K, depending on the route.

For example NYC to Fort Lauderdale is now just 6K miles:

Los Angeles to San Francisco is now just 5.5K miles:

If you actually want to collect Delta miles you’ll do better spending on the Starwood AMEX as 20,000 Starpoints transfers into 25,000 miles on dozens of airlines, including Delta or Delta partners like Air France and Alaska. Though there are better airlines that Starwood points can transfer into unless you need a specific Delta award.

However the MQM bonuses can make it worth spending on the Platinum Delta cards if you can hit the $25K or $50K spend threshold bonuses.

Additionally if you are gunning for Delta medallion status, then spending $25,000 on Delta cards in a year will waive the requirement to spend a minimum amount on Delta flights to earn that status ($3,000 for Silver, $6,000 for Gold, $9,000 for Platinum, and $15,000 for Diamond if you don’t spend $25K in a year across all of your Delta cards).

But the cards are great for the signup bonus and benefits that they come with for both Delta Medallions and non-Medallions alike.

Tobey

Yids

Which is best option for one who books tons of flights for people on delta, the get status myself..?

bob

I had this card a couple of years ago, then canceled. Can I sign up again?

Tonto

Assuming these bonuses are still only for people that haven’t had the card in the past?

Sami

i have the Gold personal AMEX and am currently Platinum Medallion on Delta and I think I’ll apply for the Amex Platinum to get the miles and MQMs to help me get to Platinum again this year.

but i was really disappointed in Delta’s sudden decision to raise SkyMiles redemptions on partners like Air France. we were planning to use our SkyMiles to book AF Business class to Mauritius or Reunion but it’s been made much tougher now.

that said, im holding out hope that the reported Delta Business Class Cabin that rolls out later this year will be worth redeeming for to Asia. maybe a fool’s hope though…

Zac

Keep in mind, though… if you have taken advantage of an offer in the past few years… they will not give you the miles. Recently I had that situation… but they agreed to give me the miles anyway after speaking to their marketing dept. Then I spent the $3k and the miles never came. I went through the conversations and supervisor and all and they deny seeing a call at the day and time I noted. It was messy and they happily cancelled my card instead of giving me the miles they promised. Over the last decade they have gone from prestige and premier on the customer experience to the typical foreign call center poor service operations of other providers. Still worth it if you play the right rules… but just be sure you did not order another of these credit cards within the past few years!

Yoco

@Match?: I have the same question only I signed up less than a month ago! I’d love to see a response to this. Many thanks.

sam

Thanks, as always.

Sam Finkelstein

Eman

Anonymous

Joseph

Jay

Would balance transfer work for the spending bonus in order to get the mile?

Joseph

Can you downgrade to a no annual fee card? whats the catch if you can?

Joseph

can the companion ticket be used with a ticket bought with miles?

rafi

Much needed info. thanks a lot. I was searching for NYC-FLL via BA but with delta its better 6k vs 7.5!

Shulem

You can us Delta miles on WestJet flights. Can be very useful for long term flights within and to and from Canada.

Abe

How much do these points sell for?

Iz

I currently have 4 Amex consumer cards (including Delta Gold). I’d like to get a Platinum. Do I need to cancel my Delta Gold before getting the Delta Platinum? Can I do that online?

david

@Abe: nothing around .9-1 but have much greater value if used correctly ie. short domestic flights

Anonymous

@Joseph: $55 a year is cheapest delta business

Daniel Rostenne

Just checking – if I only apply for the two business cards, there’s no credit pull, right?

Hirsch

Does the Platinum Delta Amex confer all of the same benefits as the regular Platinum Amex?

Gershon

I currently have a Delta gold card and am nearing $25,000 in charges. If i upgrade to the platinum will I have to start again in order to get the bonus 10,000 MQM’s for $25,000 in charges or will they include what I have already charged on the Gold Card?

Allen

Dan, If I currently have a delta gold and never had the platinum, can I get the 70k bonus for the new card? Thanks

Samantha

Amex Platinum is only 5,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs)
and 35,000 bonus miles after you spend $1,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months

sam

for spending on delta purchases to get the statement credit please let people know that not all purchases on delta.com will work, i just bought a 16 dollar in flight internet plan for my delta flight and it didnt work because it goes as a gogo purchase which is the company of the internet service

Moshe

Anybody else find that it is taking unusually long for the skymiles reward to post once the spend is met? Like several months?

Jay

Nope. It was pretty much immediate.

oyVey

one day its skypesos the next it’s a really good deal.

Anon

Once you get the miles do they get posted to your delta sky miles account? Said differently, if you cancel the card, do you get to keep all the miles?

Ber

can’t find the link for Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express

Eli

I recently applied for the AMEX Hilton Surpass card and received 100k in bonus miles. If I would apply for one of the Delta AMEX cards will they honor the bonus miles?

Marc

How does one apply for the AMEX Delta Business Card??

Sam

Hi Dan,
I recently started commuting weekly from NYC to FLL and I just got approved for the platinum so hoping to get some status soon. The post shows 6k miles for one ways. When i put those dates into the delta app it comes up as 17.5 one way on average. What am i doing wrong?

Marc

For what good is this whole post without the link to apply?? I checked AMEX and their sight has a significantly reduced offer. Does this mean that I missed this offer?? Is there someone who can offer any further information as this offer is set to expire??

Ari

Do the Delta Business cards count against Chase 5/24?

Abraham

Seems alive until 7/26
