In recent years United has moved to eliminate all flights that don’t begin or end in one of their hub airports of Chicago, Denver, Guam, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington/IAD. Other network carriers, like Delta, have been more willing to have flights that don’t operate to one of their hubs.

In August, United added seasonal point to point flights between non-hub airports like Boston, Cleveland, Columbus, LaGuardia, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa.

Most of those have been discontinued for the summer, though the routes from Cleveland have survived.

United announced today that they will be adding more point to point flights this summer, most of them on their CRJ-550 plane.

I flew on the CRJ-550 this week for the first time and it’s an excellent way to fly!
