El Al has announced that Boston will be their first new North American city to be launched in years.

There will be 3 weekly flights effective June 2015.

Boston is of course a JetBlue hub, so people will be able to connect from Boston across the JetBlue network thanks to the new JetBlue codeshare agreement.  Unfortunately you can’t earn JetBlue points for El Al flights and you can’t redeem JetBlue points for El Al flights, though perhaps that will change in the future.

Hopefully we will hear from American that they are launching JFK and Miami service and from United that they are launching Chicago or San Francisco service to Tel Aviv as well 😀

In other news, El Al has also just announced a massive devaluation to their frequent flyer program, Matmid. I’m combing through those details now and will make a post on them shortly.

shlome

Can’t believe the most rubbish freqent flyer program, thinks of devaluating

Eli

No need to “comb through those details”. Who gives a darn about Matmid!?

@matovu: majority of those that frequent this site avoid LY. However LY does have some strong points. They understand the business of Israel air travel: Groups & Business travel. So as long as you are flying on a revenue ticket, they will take care of you, if you are in one of those categories mentioned.
LY will negotiate with wholesalers and those purchasing from wholesalers pretty much are looking for the best fare. So that’s not what LY cares about.

Very interesting, only 3x a week flight the Thursday flight is at 9:00 pm arriving 3:00pm Friday. Is elal trying to tell orthodox travelers to go elsewhere?

Yehoshua

But why with the terribly old 767????

Dan's the Man

@Momofboys: It will leave a little earlier in the winter just like their other flights. I realize El Al has bad points program but don’t go saying they don’t care about Orthodox customers when they are Shomer Shabbos and offer bedatz meals on all flights.

JimJam

@Yehoshua Yeah the 767 is a terrible choice but they also note 91 passengers a day on a 288 passenger plane. Gonna be a lot of people laying down a whole row in economy.

David

Dan,

I think that on their post it says that u get points with JetBlue could you confirm?

Yy

Ly is not for points not for matmid.
Those who fly el al do it for other good reasons
For all dreyers, Ly does not need your biz
It’s ok
Go milk other programs

Dan's the man

@JimJam: There will lots of people that went to NY that will not go out of Boston. People connecting from other parts of the country as well as people that live in between NY & Boston that always had to come to NY.
