Air Canada is raising checked bag fees for tickets bought starting 8/21 for travel on or after 10/5.

The fee for the first checked bag within North/Central America will increase from $25 to $30 while the fee for the second checked bag will increase from $35 to $50.

Star Alliance Gold members used to get 3 free bags on Air Canada, but that has been decreased to one free bag. Star Alliance Silver members don’t get any free bags.

How much does it really cost them and much is their markup?

R

The cost is not the issue. The fact you fly from LGA-YYZ for $39 is

Air Canada’s announcement of Increasing Checked Baggage Fees right after jet blue, i ask people to look into the possibly of Price Gouging Law (given the closeness)
and if Air Canada violated price gouging Law i hope they will be held accountable.

With a name like Michael Cohen you must be a good lawyer 😉

I’m not sure why there would be a connection between Air Canada on JetBlue on this- these 2 airlines don’t compete at all, not even one route in common (as JetBlue doesn’t fly to Canada, at least not yet). So I’d be surprised if there was much of a connection.

Having said that, it is disconcerting for 2 major North American airlines to announce this on the same day.

Pax with *A Gold still shows on their website as 2 free bags on TLV-YYZ/YUL. It also shows that a child with a seat would get a 2nd bag free as well.

Would this apply to all pax listed on same reservation?
