Update: American has pulled the availability…Gotta be quick with this stuff!
———————————————————————
American is adding a 2nd daily flight from Los Angeles to London on their brand new 777-300ER (77W) aircraft on 03/28/15.

The 77W is equipped with just 8 seats in first class and almost every date between 03/28/15 and 05/31/15 has 7 first class seats available for saver awards in both directions.  This is an unprecedented amount of first class award space for an American flight to Europe.

The 77W offers fully lie-flat flagship seating with a chair that swivels so that you can have the seat face the window and work at a desk and a bed that measures 6 foot 8.  There is Wi-Fi and AC/USB power at every seat and there’s an open bar with shacks and drinks.  See more here.

American and USAirways both charge 125K miles for a first class saver award between the US and Europe.  Taxes and the UK APD fee will add $324.50.

American allows for one-way awards for 62.5K miles and a one-way from LA to London will have just $5.60 tax.  Compare that to a paid one-way flight for $12,624. That’s a value of 20.2 cents per mile.

USAirways only sells round-trip awards and charges a $50 award processing fee, though with USAirways miles you can get a free stopover in London and continue to fly on to somewhere else in Europe for the same amount of miles.

Or you can fly on to Tel Aviv for 180K miles round-trip, though if you connect to a British Airways flight fuel surcharges for the London-Tel Aviv flight will apply.  USAirways would allow a free stopover in London, while a stopover with American miles would bump up the rate to 192.5K miles.

You can transfer 20K Starwood Starpoints into 25K American or USAirways miles.

Note that you won’t want to use BA Avios for this flight as they add heavy fuel surcharges to American flights that aren’t wholly within the western hemisphere.

Can I get JFK-LAX-LHR for 62.5k miles and $5.60.

I flew this aircraft in E+ in June and can say that I fell in love with the aircraft.

Should be able to stay less than 24 hours in LHR to avoid the APD if continuing on to TLV. I did this successfully on a *A roundtrip, and saved ~$500.

I’m confused where to book and how much???

Jeremy

Tried many dates…showing that flight is no longer available.

Curtis

Yep, this is dead. Got two one-ways in May though. Thanks!

Looking at the first pic, the guy doesn’t seem too happy. I haven’t flown AA F but that seems to be the vibe around the inter-web

@j that’s the problem with most U.S. Based carries.. Even in first or business/first the attendants are curt and robotic.. Anything that’s not pre programmed sets them off
