The US has lifted the electronics ban for flights from Abu Dhabi to the US, effective immediately.

I flew on Etihad from in a first class apartment from Abu Dhabi to JFK in March and noted in the related articles above about the rigorous security and US immigration that must be cleared in Abu Dhabi before boarding a US bound flight.

We even landed in JFK post-security and could connect onto any domestic flight without needing to recheck our luggage or clearing US security, so the electronics ban from Abu Dhabi made little sense at all. If there was a security issue that required the banning of all electronics, then why would passengers stepping off a plane from Abu Dhabi be able to connect onto US flights without going through security again?

So its no surprise that the ban is being lifted first for flights from Abu Dhabi.

The ban will likely be lifted from other airports, like Amman, Doha, Dubai, and Istanbul, as those airports increase the security on US bound flights.

I don’t understand your question. You noted the rigorous security and US immigration that must be cleared in Abu Dhabi in order to travel to the US, but you’re confused as to why you are able to connect to a domestic flgiht within the US? Either I’m missing something or….

You are a person with little more information than whatever is made public. I respect you but you are not totally in the loop.
I would assume that during the last few months new security protocol and equipment has been deployed. It might be that changes will be made airport by airport and this one was easier than most because of the nsture of the setup.

Ryan

Baggage claim is in the “secure” part of the airport?

Ryan

But per the electronics ban, do they give you your laptop at the gate upon arrival? Or it is collected at baggage claim?

Congratulations Dan, you won!!!

Ignorance lost at least in this one 🙂

@Dan:
Dan, what I am implying is that there has been an upgrade in training, equipment or likely, both.
That is why TSA perceives the risk to be controllable at this time.

@Charles

It’s funny that you think the TSA has the ability to perceive anything correctly. http://www.fox9.com/news/265354360-story
