Earlier this week, United, Delta, American, and Alaska eliminated change fees. When the dust settles and the policies are officially hashed out, I’ll make a post comparing the exact policies.

Hawaiian Airlines is the latest to join the club.

They will waive change fees on paid and award tickets on all flights in all cabins worldwide. As with the other airlines, basic economy tickets will not be able to be changed.

I have asked Hawaiian if this policy will include standby and if they will offer a voucher for the residual value of a ticket if a passenger switches to a less expensive flight and will update this post when they respond.

By keeping basic economy restrictions in place, airlines will be able to maintain the ability to segment passengers into those willing to pay more for additional benefits, now including free changes.

Of course, Southwest has never charged any change fees and they don’t have any basic economy fares.

Hawaiian Airlines is also extending their COVID-19 waiver so that all tickets, even basic economy tickets, can be changed free of charge as long as they’re purchased by 12/31/20.

Meanwhile yet again, JetBlue is nowhere to be found. Then again, they were slow to respond to elite status extension, but when they did it was a home run. This time will be trickier for them as most of the other US airlines offer upgrades as their main elite benefit, but JetBlue offers free changes as their main elite benefit. They may feel the need to retool those benefits before announcing free changes. What do you think they will do?

is a shame that their interisland prices are still high, with an avg price of $100 one way (plus luggage fees). dont want to use southwest as their flight times are not good, but for a family ……
