Update #2: Commenters confirm what I predicted, that any business located in the zip codes below would qualify. See the comments for lots of examples and to post your own experience.

Additionally I am happy to report that charities located in the zip codes below work as well. I made a donation to Chabad of North Fulton under the Cumming, GA Big Break and received an email confirmation 36 hours later from AMEX confirming that I would receive a $20 statement credit!
Update: Registration for all areas appears to be full.
Originally posted on 09/24:

You can register for the promotions below now, but you must spend the $20 in a single purchase between September 29 and October 7.

Speaking from personal experience from past promotions:
-This will work on consumer and business AMEX cards, but not on corporate cards, gift cards, or prepaid cards.
-This will also work with 3rd party AMEX cards like those from Citi, however if for whatever reason you do not get credit automatically getting it manually will be extremely difficult.  With AMEX issued cards it’s easy to be credited manually via a secure message online.
-This will work with all of your primary and secondary cards from AMEX, but not with secondary cards from 3rd party issuers like Citi. Of course each card must be registered separately but you are able to use the same email address.
-You can register for all of the promotions below.
-Although there is a list of eligible small businesses for each promo, in the past all small businesses, even those not specifically listed, have worked perfectly.
-These promotions have worked online and in-store.
-Don’t forget that you can always have a store or restaurant split your bill into multiple $20 charges if you have multiple cards.
-Although it says that charities are excluded, in the past it has always worked at charities as well.
-Promotions like these (and the tons of other ones like Small Business Saturday in November and Twitter/Facebook/Gift Chain promos) are how to actually turn a profit on cards like the Starwood Consumer or Starwood Business card with their $65 annual fees after the first free year. There’s still time to order more free secondary user cards now to have for this and other promotions (I have dozens of cards just for stuff like this, though some people have reported being hit with a financial review after ordering too many additional user cards, so don’t do it if you don’t make your income on the books…)

Post a comment of which small business store or website in the zip codes below that you will be spending $20 at!

Is it including Oct. 7? I’ll be away till then.

Yes, 09/29 and 10/07 will both work.

wheres the link to sign up? Also wasnt clear can i sign up more then one card and all the 2nd users of each?

Do secondary business and personal cards affect the credit of the person they are issued to? Is there an inquiry? Does it show up on a credit report? Also, for personal cards, does it affect a spouse’s credit differently?

DO you have to spend $20 or more? If I spend only $18 wont get the credit?

Dan- what is big break, u wrote that next to each one of the cities??????

also how about nj (lkwd) or list websites

11219 is in Boro Park, so should be good for some extra kiska and kugel with my cholent

how do i know which website is in a specific zipcode?

Chani S.

Can someone please post some online stores that are in those zip codes — NY & CA, for example…
Any Jewish owned online shops in those ZIP codes so we can shop from home/work?

I clicke dthe link that finds the small business that participate, and im sorry to report, but it says that no business in Brooklyn is participating!

If you move the map over Boro Park it resets to that areas stores. There are quite a few stores in BP, like the popular toy store “Double Play.”

If anyone finds websites that work for the other 4 promos – please share…

Happy Shopping!

Hi, is this once per account, or once per card?

you need to reread the post

If you click on Big Break Staten Island (Including parts of Brooklyn/Boro Park and Bayonne)you will get a new window pop up and in the box on the left of the picture, http://www332.amexnetwork.com?id=38280&selectedlanguage=American+English, click it and it gives you all the business in staten island, then if you click in the top right, change location ,you can switch it to Brooklyn, and it will come up with a lot of small businesses that are eligible.

does it work calling in my cc number or does it have to be used in person?

It’s all in the post.

If you supply a SSN it will show on the secondary credit report and can help them or hurt them depending on how you use the card. There is no pull.
You can also tell them you don’t have the SSN handy though and still get AU cards.

$20 or more.

It’s the name of the promo.

Look at where the business is based. (Contact us, etc)

As I wrote, it doesn’t need to be listed to work!!!

I’m afraid you need to reread the post as well…

As I wrote, all small businesses in those zips should work.

That would work as well.

Maybe this is obvious to everyone else, but is this a one time thing, or can I spend $20 at 20 different stores and get $400 back? I’m assuming it’s just once right?

Once per card.

chaim ber

I will be eating out for free in boro park

notice that in boro park from 16th ave. on is the zip code 11204

Dan R

Dan, No other NY locations (LI, Qus, etc) links for this sweet deal?

Is it worthwhile to sync Amex with facebook account?

Can I do Staten Island and Raleigh as well?

Hey Dan and anyone else who has “relevant experience”, Whats your opinion on this. I churn amex and other cards multiple times thru out the year. If I add my wife on to all my amex accounts as a authorized user, do you think the next time she applies it will affect her getting approved. I know as a authorized user it does show up on the credit report. I don’t want to mess up an application for a $20 credit, but then again I want to max out if I can.

Thanks Man

Josh & Eli

You wrote “You can register for all of the promotions below”. Does that mean you can qualify for a $20 rebate at EACH of the 5 states above?

can someone list some stores in Boro park/staten island for us to patronize…thx!

I just had the weirdest thing happen.

I did my spg business card. Then I did my gold business card (using same email) and I got this response.

“Oops, our records show that you’ve already registered for this offer. We limit the number of times that a Cardmember can register for each offer.”

Then I checked my email and I got the confirmation email with last five digits of the credit card saying I am good to go.

Whats up with that? Anything to worry about?

Thanks, I stand corrected, I found a few stores in brooklyn. The food store next to SHoprite on Mcdonald’s ( its called tomato farm something- its on the next corner, next to avenue I and mcdonlds)is participating, so anyone can go there and get free food:) or $120 dollars worth of food in my case!!
Dan- I have same question as josh and Eli, can i do this in every single state? or only once in NY and thats it?

Did you get 2 confirmation emails? If not try them both again.

I’m not sure how many times I need to say this, but you can do each and every one with every card that you have.

And it does not need to be listed as an eligible store to work.

awesome thanks so much! lets see what all the other states have to offer! Gmar Chasima tova y’all

do you know if it will work with mostly music? it worked for the november promo last year, but i dunno if it’s considered in the right zip?

not a single brooklyn store. too bad

Oy, I give up folks. People really just can’t be bothered to read.

does anyone know if eichlers in boro park is included

alyssa kaplan

I want to donate to masbia-how do I do that?

Korns Bakery on 18th Avenue is on!

Can it be used in zips 11367 and 60659.
Please respond.

dan don’t give up these are just new readers they will get it but it will take time

Nothing in Lakewood?

i did read the info

can we order online?
in the t&c it says cant be online only, if its a b & m with a website will it work (in your experience)

Dan how are u 100% certain that all small businesses work for this promo? The wording on their website sounded otherwise! I don’t recall if the sat small business promo had the same wording or not. I’m just wondering how u can be so certain?

@DAN I just called totally toys in bp and they did not know about it. They were on the list. Do you know if this works online or only if you go into the store?

GSA King Tomato Farm is in 11230 so I dont think you can use this promotion for that fruit store

Can someone please post a few websites that are located in those zipcodes that would be eligible?

I would also like to know how we can be sure that this would apply to orders made online as well.

It’s weird, I got the same message as Bonkers

“Oops, our records show that you’ve already registered for this offer. We limit the number of times that a Cardmember can register for each offer.”

But, when I checked my email, it said it got registered. Weird!

is this dead

i think the new york offer might be filled up

seems to be dead. This was the response I got:

Unfortunately the maximum number of Cardmembers have already registered for this offer. Please visit http://www.AmexNetwork.com for other fabulous offers.

yep just tried and its dead 🙁

why not just do other states and call some store over there? NC and Anaheim both let me register

batter bat

dead – Grrrrr…

not sure but last year not for profit had a problem with small business saturday- they are not a charity so this might give a problem as well

I got a message for some of the cards saying my card was successfully registered in addition to an emailing confirming but then some of them I only got a confirmation message but no email. Does that mean the ones that I didn’t get an email for, didn’t go through?

Also let’s say I have five Amex cards- do I register each card for one city, or I can register all five cards for each eligible city?

online stores

Can people post websites that can be used to spend the 20 dollar credit?

If I registered to Brooklyn do u think I can also register for another place and get 20 20 ?

Does anyone know if ‘3 guys from bklyn’ is acceptable for this promo? Their zip code is 11219 but it doesn’t seem to be on the list. They were part of small business saturday last year. I bought gc’s from them.

chana k

Dan says any store in the correct zip code that takes amex will work. But for all those who want specific stores:
Wallachs on 13th ave;appliance bargain center (now called plug ins); photo factory on 15th ave;Weiss trimming 15 ave; Freunds fish 15 ave;bagel store 43rd and 14 ave;double play toys 14 ave;

Isn’t it once per card per region? I was able to sign up with the same card in differen’t regions.

If you have many Amex cards, use LastPass, FREE downloadable softward for automatically filling in your information in forms and create identities for yourself with your credit card information. This will speed up the registration process immensely! For instance, I create an identity for DealsSeeker1 for my Penfed CC info, DealsSeeker2 for my Citi Amex CC info. and so on, until you have used up all your credit cards. Then just register with your differen’t identities for Amex by clicking on FillForms and choose the identity!
Hope this tip helps many of you with many cards!
Dan, with your hundreds of cards I can’t imagine you doing it any other way! Unless you found an easier way???

anyone from Chicago find anything for the il one?

Any way we could contact Amex and ask them to open more slots for Staten Island and Bkln? It seems a little inequitable if they allotted the same number of opportunities for the NYC promo as for the other promos? On that note, does anyone know how long the promo was out, before it was filled up?

It would be nice if we can come up with a list of small businesses we can support in each of these cities that will ship and sell things we can all use and does’t mind splitting up the payments between many CC’s.

@Jeff: go for it jeff

Uch I didn’t realize this “fills up”. Typical Brooklyn. Meh.

Could you expand on how to benefit by registering for cities you aren’t in and may not go to?
Not finding much of an internet ordering available.

Can somebody please give name(s) of store(s) in Brooklyn that sells baby gear- strollers, seats, etc, specifically need BabyBjorn seat , bib, spoons ..Thank You!

any 1 knows of a store selling gift cards in the 11219 zip code area thanks!

mike fein

the terms say its only for an instore purchase…. suggesting online purchases wont work. Can you advise please Dan

I just spoke with someone at Amex, and the rep told me to check a http://www.facebook.com/open for a listing of participating stores, they will be posted there on the 29th.

Are there any stores in Chicago that are selling gift cards to brances in the NY/NJ area?
Any stores in Brooklyn selling gift cards?
Thanks for your summer post- Hat Box in Chicago. I was able to get gift cards in the mail.

@ fradl – weird when i looked on the Amex website it showed it as being 11219, now when i googled it it says 11230. Anyway in Boro Park anything below 16th ave is 11219, 16th and above is 11204. There are a bunch of groceries on 13th avenue where ppl can get food in this promotion!

Hi Dan, I am the main user on my spg acct and have 2 cards as add ons. I only registered my main card. Amex cust service told me that those two cards are registered automatically as well and can each spend 20.00 also. That would mean I can divide a purchase between 3 cards… I hope she was correct!

Incorrect. You need to register each card separately.

Oh well ! I did not and now the registration is full. Teh cust service rep insisted so !

@dan i know people asked this question and i am still confused so would appreciate if you would answer. can i register the same card for the Brooklyn promo and the Chicago promo and spend 20$ in Brooklyn and 20$ in Chicago and get two credits on one card? thanks

rich guy

i have scool in zip code 11204 and i got a letter from amex that i can swipe cards for 20 bucks and the cardholder will get a credit

it works for all states you gotta register each state separatly but it works

Insites on how to use to full advantage from out of state?

Does anyone have places in california that we can shop online at??????

Im on the phone with AMEx right now, and they said its per card , not per state!!!

someone please! for those living far away. Is there a way to make purchases online? Does anyone know any? let everyone know so even people far away can benefit.

Used my Amex Saturday night at GSA King Tomato Farm on Mcdonald Ave and Ave I in Brooklyn and got an email thanking me for participating in the Big Break promo and confirming the $20 credit.

try and and report back

If people can start throwing out names that have worked.

Dan – can you weigh in on this.

I ordered from mostlymusic.com and did not get an email.

As far as I understand from the prev posts, that means I am not getting my $20, right?

Used at Eichler BP, got credited from amex already

I used some of my cards at a grocery on 13th ave, and tehn also at Amnons pizza, treated out a bunch of friends:) and at gal paz and i already got allmy credits! @ AHA happy to hear

Disregard comment #86.

My email just came through.

Mostly Music is part of it.

anyone have any success in any other area aside from staten Island or Boro Park?

Found 2 places in Anaheim with websites from list:

Might be totally useless though!

i called amex to see if eichlers bp was included. they said they werent sure-after looking and placing me on hold for 10 min. they apologized that they couldnt help me and gave me 2000 starwoods points bec they couldnt help me. Love them! thanks,.

I have 6 Amex cards, bought books for my wife in the amount of $120 at Eichlers in BP, and I was credited $20 per card. I buy every Yom Tov books for my wife, but this time it was free. Perfect timing!

@chaimmayer: Also on Sunday.

I used 2 of my cards in a store that it wasn’t on there list n I got 2 days later a email that I got credit

Success – why not share the stores?

@success: What stores?
Also anyone have success with any other citys?

If you registered in Anaheim and have nothing to use it for, try donating $20 to http://www.occcopico.org/donate.html

It will at least score you a tax write off!

Anyone want to try?…

I found a store in Raleigh that will take multiple cards and split transactions over the phone. I am buying my wife a clutch and a tote bag.

You forgot to include their zipcode in the original post: 27601.

Frequent Flyer University

Thanks for sharing this Dan!

gave to the Young Israel of Staten Island online and got confirmed 3 days later.

Anyone know if the cutoff on October 7th is for the charge to actually post or can it be pending and still qualify if it posts after the 7th ?

@ Dan, do u think that the registration will reopen again for those who missed it ? or any other link to register the cards ? plz post

dan i cant register my gold card, why?

online stores

I registered six different cards- two in Anaheim, two in Georgia, one in Raleigh and one Carol Stream. I realized I should have registered all in one area. Does anyone know if it must be spent in the area registered or could be used in any of the five areas?

Got my wife a nice piece of jewelry from Mollys in Boro Park (zip code 11219) $180 off Thank You Amex for your help.

Registration for the $20 Big Break statement credit offer was limited. Sorry, registration is now closed and the offer is no longer available.

800eichlers.com worked for me. Got an email confirmation the next day!

@anonymous Please tell me if this place will ship. If they do, can you please give me their phone number?

Am I the only one? I couldn’t find a way to get gift cards on 1800eichlers.com

I think registration is still open in all states but N.Y.

Dose anybody have a # or @ to stores of intrest out of N.Y.????????

@Shmerel where is mollys located and is that the name of the store

Thanks Dan for the tip.
The deal is closed in California.
Was able to register 8 family cards early on and used all of them for dine in/take out food from restaurants. Nice treat.

how do I register?

i called up eichlers in bp (11219) yesterday and ordered 2 $20 gift certificates. i already received my credits through amex! awesome!

@Dan: can i still register? i tried and it didn’t work

how and where does one register

Dave Golden

Just spoke with the owner of Azure Chocolates out of Raleigh. He was very accommodating and I requested he charge $20 to each card and send me one giant gift card – no problems. Obviously the payment hasn’t posted to my AmEx statements yet, but with the end date 2 days away, I figure I will just email customer service at AmEx and they always credit the amount anyway. Plus, I feel good knowing that I can help a small business out. and bury my face in CHOCOLATE.

any other stores in raleigh people find?

What is a good number to call if you don’t get the $20 credit on the Citi Amex Platinum (turned into the Thank You premier) card?

give Meltontackle.com a call.. They are in Anaheim, Zip Code 92806…I just spoke with Andrew (800-372-3474) and ordered a group of gift cards…

good luck

don’t take multiple cards anymore on one purchase.

Did you order online? Did you order gift certificate? Will they ship or emaill gift certificate?

Just a heads up in case anyone did not yet spend the $20 for the NYC promo the following stores are guaranteed to work. (It worked for me.) Closeout Connection on 13th ave, bencraft hatters on 13th ave, super 13th (grocery store) on 13th ave, and sub express on 13th ave.

As an aside bencraft hatters will not do more than one card all the other stores had no problem.

Hi Chevra,
Can you please provide phone numbers for those of us abroad?
I can’t seem to find the thread of Flyertalk for this promo, can someone please provide the link? I need more places that I can call up and do it over the phone or online, because I am in Israel. Any help is appreciated.

I made a purchase at Metro Drugs in BP (11219) last week and never got the confirmation email or credit. The charge was for $70 so I split it between Citi amex premier thank you and a true amex card. The citi amex CSR supervisor gave me an immediate credit of $20 where the real amex card’s sup’v. said he will wait till next week and then maybe give me the credit. That was a shock that citi was less of a hassle in getting the credit. BTW, 3 guys from Bklyn in BP was an automatic confirmation and credit on my amex gold.

can someone confirm 100% that eichlers website worked? I know one person said it did but then other people said online doesnt work

I faxed in my cc info. to eichlers, as someone suggested and they called me to ask what kind of credit I wanted.I even received a confirmation email from Amex saying I got the credit. Thanks for eveyone’s help on this.

I used 5 cards n stores that wasn’t on amex list and I got confirmation that it worked

The Virgin Atlantic AMEX issued by BofA is a non core AMEX. I registered it for the promotion and this morning, I see that they have posted a credit of $20. So, it worked for both the core AMEX’s and the ones issued by other banks.

I see the credit is from the merchant where I did the purchase, does that mean AMEX deducted from them or thats just the way the run the promo

this comes up when trying to register
