Google’s Project Fi is pretty awesome. Many people use it domestically, though I’m on a shared Verizon plan with unlimited everything for $30/month, so it’s not compelling for me to use in the USA.

However I use Project Fi extensively when traveling abroad. 4G LTE data is the same $10 per GB everywhere in over 135 countries. That’s a bargain for true high-speed data. Plus you only pay for what you use, so if you use 1.1GB you’ll pay $11, not $20. You can make phone calls for 20 cents/minute or you can make phone calls over the data network with Google Voice. The line itself costs just 67 cents per day and you can place your plan and number on hold as needed. I’ve used it in places from Israel to Svalbard to the UAE. You can view supported countries here.

You can use your Project Fi phone as a hotspot and you can even get a free data only SIM for other devices to use at the same low rate per GB anywhere in the world.

If you signup with this referral link we’ll each get a $20 statement credit.

Project Fi also hands out rewards to users.

They have travel trolleys in airports.

Last December they gave out $10 of Google Play credit.

This year they’re giving users a free GoGo WiFi code for playing this game.

I unpaused my service for a minute to take advantage of the promotion and then paused it again after I got the code. I probably won’t need it thanks to the other various GoGo hacks, but it can’t hurt.

Do you have Project Fi?

Have gogo free through Amex plat. Is there any way to get free WiFi on united?
Do u know whose cell towers does project fi use in israel. Used my Verizon phone there and also had a sim card from a smaller company and both of their service did not compare to Cellcom. Definitely worth renting a phone for a few dollars a day even if you bring Verizon with u

How long and how often can you pause your account?

Do you need to buy a new phone for this?

Kevin

You will need a phone that is compatible with Project Fi, read more here : https://fi.google.com/about/phones/

dan they told me that you have to pay $20 for the service and then an additional $10 for 1 gb of data that’s a total of $30 and I only want a device for waze alone is that the best option?

Can’t a Verizon customer purchase a pixel on project fi, pause service while in the US and slip in his Verizon sim; when he goes overseas, just replace the Verizon sim with the project fi sim and activate the project fi service?

ahchiu
