It’s always good to keep on top of M&A activity in a sector in which I have so much invested. (In miles, of course…)

USAToday has a neat graph showing which airlines may merge with each other. While I don’t agree with it 100%, it’s pretty accurate for the most part.

Kudos to them for taking the time to put that together. Looks pretty good to me.

Looks like a good merger.
Delta is very strong in Europe, NWA is strong in Asia-so the networks complement each other.
They are currently #3 and #5, so it should pass regulatory restrictions.
They both are part of the Skyteam alliance.
Both are in bankruptcy though-so it wold be interesting how it would work out.
Of the hubs-Delta has Atlanta, Cincinnati, Salt Lake City, and is building one in JFK.
NWA has Detroit, Memphis, and Minneapolis.
If merged, Memphis and Cincinnati would probably be the first to be axed, and either Minneapolis or Salt Lake would have to go as well.
Delta is the stronger brand name so it would remain Delta, and Skymiles would definitely be the currency.
The only reason this might not work out is because NWA labor relations are the worst in the industry and Delta may not want to deal with that.
