Update: This transfer bonus ends at 11:59pm tonight!
You can get 1,200 Qantas Points for every 1,000 Capital One miles that you transfer by 9/1 after a 20% transfer bonus!
- The most recent Capital One bonus to Qantas was 33.3% in October 2019, however that bonus only made the effective ratio 1:1, so this is the first time there is an effective bonus from Capital One to Qantas.
- The most recent AMEX bonus to Qantas was 20% in September 2022.
- The most recent AMEX bonus to Qantas was 25% in February 2020.
As you can see from this miles expiration post, Qantas points won’t expire as long as you earn or redeem 1 mile every 18 months.
You can use Qantas points for domestic award bargains on AA and Alaska flights for domestic award bargains on AA and Alaska flights.
You can also use Qantas points to fly on El Al, though they throttle award space on El Al. You can use 37.8K Qantas points (31.5K Capital One miles) in coach, 70,800 Qantas points (59K Capital One miles) in premium economy, or 90K Qantas points (75K Capital One miles) in business for a one-way ticket on El Al between NYC and Tel Aviv without fuel surcharges.
You can read this post for how to find El Al award space, but as Qantas throttles that space, only a subset will be bookable with Qantas points.

If I transfer my Capital One miles to Qantas and then book a business class flight to Israel what is the Qantas cancellation policy for partner award bookings? With all that is going on in Israel, I’d love to be able to be flexible.
5,000 point deduction for changes. 6,000 points deduction for cancellations
Dan can I get elal voucher for award tickets booked through Qantas?
Lol, no
User be aware, there is one significant limitation to using Qantas points on El El, and that is that you need to plan far in advance, like 10+ months. I have 400k in Qantas points for a good few years already, and have been to Israel multiple times during that time, but was never able to find seats when I needed. Oh, they did have something on Air Jordan though! If you can the awards for point amounts are awesome. I just have yet to be able to use.
You should be more clear in the post that is extremely difficult to find decent redemption on Qantas as the restrict a large percentage of tickets. I know it is referenced in passing but there should be a big red warning about this.
I tried to do Quantas JFK to Tel Aviv flexible dates and it keeps telling me it cant find any flights and keeps taking me to Sydney to Tel Aviv
i have booked numerous times .yes the key is to book in advance [for j, economy and maybe premium you can find closer also].
i booked my mother 11 months in advance and she came now rt 180k in business for tickets which were selling now at $10k !!
i booked myself to israel for next summer rt j going premium back for 134k capital 1 miles
it helps that bar mitzva and yohrtzaiht dates dont generally change…
Your comparison isn’t fair. You booked 11 months ago and are saying that is sells NOW for 10k. A true comparison would be now much they were selling for 11 months ago when you booked the tickets.
Actually ends 1 day later. Qantas – Qantas Frequent Flyer SPECIAL OFFER
1000 Capital One Miles = 1000 1200 Qantas Points
20% bonus miles promotion ends 11:59PM Eastern Time on 09/01/2024
i HAVE AMEX, how likely to get coach seats ELAL for pessach or sukkoot from EWR only?
qantas is showing 2 seats each in economy and premium economy to fly for Pesach from EWR on April 1, if that works for you
I transferred years ago from Amex based upon Dan’s recommendation. Think I got a 35% bonus points. Still sitting with Quanta’s points bc hard to book Elal on it!
I almost never recommend speculative transfers.
Transfer if you’ll be able to use it now or in the near future only.
That being said, these are also good for domestic AA awards:

Thanks Dan. Just booked for June (economy there, business back). Keep up the great work!
