Some of the cards above are business cards, but you may already have a business that needs a card to keep track of expenses. For example if your name is Joe Smith and you sell items online, or if you have any other side business and want a credit card to better keep track of business expenditures you can open a business credit card for “Joe Smith” as the business. You don’t need to file any messy government paperwork to be allowed to do that. Just be sure to select “Sole Proprietorship” as the business type and just use your social security number in the Tax Identification Number field.

If you have business paperwork you can apply under your business name. Otherwise, it’s critical to just write your own name as the business name if you are just applying for your own small business as a Sole Proprietorship that doesn’t have any business paperwork. You can then send in bills in your own name for verification.

If you’re like me and you run more than one business, you can signup for multiple of the same card for each business to manage each businesses expenses separately.

Chase cards with Ultimate Rewards are subject to 5/24 restrictions, meaning that you are not likely to be approved if you have been approved for 5 or more consumer credit cards in the past 24 months. Note that the Chase system automatically counts cards like authorized user cards and store cards as cards that count towards 5/24, but if you explain to Chase that those cards are merely authorized user cards or store cards they can manually approve you for a new card. You can check your credit report for free at the federally authorized annualcreditreport.com to check how many accounts are shows as being open in the past 24 months.

However, it’s important to note that business cards from most banks, including Chase business cards, do not get added to your 5/24 count of recently opened cards. That’s because business cards from most banks don’t show up on your personal credit report and the 5/24 count is based off of your personal credit report. That means that applying for these cards won’t “hurt” your 5/24 count.

Another benefit of the card not reporting on your personal credit report is that when you spend money on personal cards your credit score will be hurt even if you pay your bill on time. A whopping 30% of your credit score is based on credit utilization. You can pay off your card bill before your statement is generated to avoid that, but that takes effort and laying out money well before you have to. Additionally it’s good to have the statement close with a couple dollars to show the card is active and being paid every month. On an business cards from banks like AMEX and Chase it’s just not reported, so you can wait until the money is due without it having a negative effect on your score. That also means if you close the card, it won’t have an effect on your credit score.

Which cards will you apply for?

II got this when applying for Chase Biz card: Offer Unavailable. The information you requested is no longer available.

Is that a glitch and should I apply again? Or wait?

Avi

Any prediction if the new Chase Ink Business Premier will eventually allow points to transfer to airline points like other UR points.

Kopi

You can’t transfer ink points so Ultimate points with sapphire?

Ben

Any word on sapphire bonus going up again? coming up to 4 yr soon

ZD

Recently got a second citi premier and downgraded the original to the rewards +. But Amex is disappointing. The benefits and credits for the most part are useless to me making the AF ridiculously high. ($695 for the platinum?!? I don’t go to equinox and my wife doesn’t shop at Saks.) And I hate the $10 monthly credits.
The only one I’d considering the gold for 4 points on groceries. But is that worth $295 when I get 3 points with my $95 citi premier?
I find the premier offers the best benefits for daily spending (3 on groceries, gas, restaurants, etc)

AE

Depending on your spend:
Blue Cash Preferred. Cash-back, not points. $95 AF. 6% back on up to $6K of groceries. Effective 4.4% back if that is your only spend. Also, 3% on gas & transit (unlimited).
Blue Cash Everyday. Cash-back, not points. $0 AF. 3% back on up to $6K of groceries. Also, 3% on up to $6K of gas.

Get both and you have an effective 3.7% on $12K of groceries per year.

AE

I got a targeted offer for 75K points to open a 2nd Blue Business Plus card. Requires a $15K spend within 1 year. You can bet I got that one! Plus, they are offering 5K points (up to 5 times) for opening an employee card and spending $1K within 90 days.

Add to that the 30K point signup bonus from the bus checking account offer, and this has been a very good month. (130K Amex points from signup bonuses!)

KMC

@Dan
any concern over the credit card competition act from Sen. Durbin? It is an anti Visa/Mastercard Bill that exempts Discover, of course, because its an Illinois company. Supermarket trade groups are really pushing it. It could really hurt the points game.

The only thing worse than an imperfect free market with aggressive anti-competitive businesses is “anti-competitive” regulations…..

Israeli

Need to replenish my Chase situation. Any news on them bringing back the 100k for the Preferred card?

mf1

Is there a reason for the order of cc companies ?

Mikey

I have an Amex Business Platinum coming up for renewal. Does it make sense to drop the business card and signup for the Platinum Consumer card in order to receive the sign-on bonus?
How long would I need to wait for a sign-on bonus afterwards if I re-apply for an Amex Business Platinum?

Chaim

If I have a premier shouldn’t I downgrade to rewards card and reapply for a premier instead of applying for a rewards card?

tal k

its all well and good but i cant use MC in costco!

Gemarakop

Thanks Dan for your site used your city premier link

VVF

Any words on United Airline cards giving extra bonus miles offer? They stopped it not so long ago but maybe they bring it back

CF

Hi Dan,
Thanks for your great site! Any way to transfer points from United Explorer Mileage Plus Account to Ultimate Reward Points? Thanks!

Yosef

Hey Dan! Will I get the signup bonus for the Citi Rewards+ Card if I took out the premier 13 months ago?

New2thegame

Is there any reason that I can’t use PayPal to send money to a family member in order to reach a spending threshold? Would that be flagged by the bank if they realize that I’m essentially paying myself?

Chaim

Dan, I got a ink cash card last month, is there a risk of chase shutdown if I apply today for the ink premier card?

H

If I have 3 inks already & 5 personal chase cards, great CR, am I better off closing one or two of the inks before applying for a new one or it shouldn’t affect my auto approval?

Zaltz

Is there any risk of being shut down if I reload my Amazon balance with $0.50 200 times a day with the rewards+?

Jew

Yes

G_Manush

Hi Dan,
If I received the bonus for the Citi Advantage AND CitiBusiness AAdvantage Platinum World Mastercard, will I be able to sign up and get the bonus for the Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite Consumer Mastercard??

Gg

Would like to apply for 2 or 3 cards of the chase biz, what the best way of applying? 3 browsers or?

mergs

How many chase biz cards would you risk doing at once for the same business?

jack

What about the IHG Cards?

Elaine

Hi,

Just want to share some info about my experiences with Citi Premier card customer support. Without thinking I accepted an email that offered to upgrade my rewards +card to a Premier one, I accepted and while waiting I realized, what I dumb move that was, I gave up the opportunity for the 80,000 bonus points. So when the card came I did not activate but I called customer support. That’s were the fun began. I never, ever dealt with a legit business that told out and out lies to their customers. Lies I was told: Citi Premier is not offering 80,000 points anymore and both agents I spoke to seemed quite mystified as to how I could have thought that there ever was such an offer. Lie 2, you have to wait 48 months before you can get another bonus (3rd agent), and today I was told that once you have gotten one thank you points card bonus you can not get another ever (5th agent). The 4th agent was actually helping until the final step when all of a sudden there was no supervising agent who was authorized to help and I should call back the next day.

So, is it possible to get the Premier bonus if I apply for the card if I never activated the Premier card that they offered to me (did not apply for)?

Mendy

I already have the chase ink business cash card and I like to apply for a new Ink business cash card to get the bonus points.
Do you recommend that I close the card that I currently have before applying for a new card or it’s not necessary? What I have a better chance of getting approved by closing the card first?

Hmm

Wondering the same thing.

Malki

Can I apply for a business card without having a business

JB

Is it possible to get a southwest cc sign up bonus if I have already got one in the past? Is it possible if I sign up for a different card then i did before? I am guessing no because that would make it too easy to get a companion pass

Dan\'s the Man

Looking for a sign up bonus to help pay for an expensive car rental in Israel. Does the Citi Piemerr have car rental coverage in Israel? If I use the card would I be able to use the points from the sign up bonus as a statement credit to help pay for the car rental?

Assuming the answer to both these questions are yes I’ll use your link to apply. Thanks Dan!

Cc open

Can u please put in the post regarding foreign transaction fees if there are and on which cards pary of the info
Thnx a million got hundreds of thousands of points and deals cause ur site

Judi

When can you cancel a credit card without consequence?

Mdv

How long do you have to wait between ink bonuses

Sammy

Hello. How can I know if I am eligible for bonus of if past bonuses preclude eligibility? I’m focused on Citi, Amex and venture?

Dan\'s the Man

Dan- Yesterday I applied for the Citi Premier, the Venture card, and a Chase Ink. I got denied for the Citi Premier and approved for the Venture and Ink. Today I got an email from Citi saying I was denied because I use too little of my available credit. I have many credit cards so I do have a lot of available credit but I never knew this would cause a denial. I guess it’s something just Citi is doing? My FICO is 800+ (which is helped b/c I have such a low credit utilization).

Jonathan

If I currently have the Chase Ink Cash credit card, and it has been 24 months since I have received the sign-on bonus (held the card for 2 years), can I cancel the card? And then apply for the card to get the new sign-on bonus?

Eliyahu

Can I get a Chase business card and not have it in the same login as my personal cards (so other members of the business can use too)?

Jack

So confused why the is the Citi card such a good deal, the benefits are not good, transfer partners are not amazing….

Jack

Chase Ink business unlimited versus Chase Ink business cash?

Which one?

menachem

I applied for the ink cash business using my personal name as the business name like you wrote they asked for these two things:1 Proof of physical address for authorizing officer
2 Proof of physical address for business I don’t really have any of them unless I can just use a regular utility bill or bank statement? any recommendations?

yidi

can I apply for both (business cash/unlimited) chase cards and get tew times the welcome bones at once?

Shainuh Payis

Yuh, deee Kenst

Jeje

What’s the difference between the first two? I tried to read the post but couldn’t get the differences. Thank you

Dani

By “tried,” do you mean due to a reading disability?

Renter

I applied for the ink cash and got denied I called the reconsideration line they said the cannot do any thing should i try huca or wait and apply again

Yaakov

I applied for both the Chase ink cards in Nov but got denied do to having 5 cards in 24 months but now one of my 5 cards are past 24 so I huca-ed to get reconsidered but they told me they can’t reconsider me because they still use my old credit report/ pull and there it says I still have 5 cards so I have to reapply. I got both chase business cards. Tried applying for the sapphire reserve nov 30 before the 80k offer expired and got the “being reviewed” response. Chase sent me a letter saying I was denied due to fraud and should call to confirm that it was me that actually applied. I’ve called numerous times since then, was told each time that the security/fraud team denied me because my license wasnt sufficient proof of my birthday and address. They said they can no longer discuss this with me and the application is denied period. “Try applying in 6 months”. Any advice on how to clear this up and get the application reconsidered? Thanks

Wondering about non-AMEX customer service. I have a Delta Gold AMEX card and have had excellent support abroad, where I am most of the year. But since Delta doesn’t fly where I now want to go in the US, I want a card that gets me United miles with AMEX level service. Suggestions?

I just saw an offer for 60K points signup bonus from AMEX for the business checking due to having the business platinum card. Has anyone else seen this? (Rather than the regular 30K signup bonus?)

If I’ve had some of these cards before, primarily the Chase United and Capone Venture, how can I know if I am eligible for the bonus?

There is a huge group of Americans living in Israel: families, couples, bochurim, seminary girls. It would be very helpful for us if each deal comes along with the information of if there is a foreign transaction fee or not, and if yes, at what percentage point. If you can update the post with that information, that would be great!

Chase closed down all my accounts in 2013 like they did then to many back then. Is there any chance they will allow us to open accounts again? Any information on this?

Got an AMEX Blue Business Plus card in August 2020 – don’t remember the SUB. (I think it was 50K.)
Got another one July 2022 – 75K SUB. (Biggest I have ever heard of for this card.)
They just offered (and I took) a third one with a 50K+10K (for employee card with $1K spend) SUB.

And now I can spend $150K per year at 2% AMEX MR. :

I booked a hotel with Chase UR on the phone through my SP. I asked the agent to charge $50 to my card and cover the rest with points so that I could take advantage of the $50 hotel credit but she said there’s no such thing and that the credit is only for flights. I tried to argue with her but to no avail so I booked the whole thing with points. Obviously she was wrong. Is there any recourse?

This is amazing – I just got approved for my third Chase Business Ink since December, all three with the 90k bonus for $6k spending on each. Since I’m redoing the bathrooms in my house, I am having no problem reaching the needed spending (thanks Amazon for great prices on Moen fixtures and hardware)! Thank you, Dan, for giving great advice!

already have Bonvoy amex and capital one quicksilver and interested in The Ink Cash card for large bonus and benefits. Do you recommend I simultaneously apply for Sapphire preferred to make chase points more valuable?

Chaim Freund

@Dan,
If I recently got the bonus on an Amex card and I reapplied using an offer that has lifetime language but I didnt receive the pop up saying I am ineligible for the bonus can I assume I will receive the bonus?
I don’t want to spend the 15k on the card only to find out I won’t receive the bonus.

If I have a Chase business card that was open several years ago and I don’t really use that account what do I need to do to be able to open the same new business card account to qualify for the sign up bonus? I already applied for and was approved for the business unlimited card a few months ago

Will my credit get pulled twice if I apply for the 2 chase business cards?

Dan, I need your advice – we are trying to get another companion pass from Southwest to start after next January 1st, 2024, to allow for its expiration at end of 2025- if that’s possible. Our current companion pass expires 12/31/23. How do we do this? If we get the bonus within the 3 months, we will need to get to total of 135,000 points by 12/31/23. But that would be for this year. How do we ensure we get the companion pass after 1/1/24, if everything reverts to zero after 1/1/24?
Some other background info :
I have a business card opened within last 2 years, and a personal card opened in 2/2019 (with a credit limit of 33K). My wife only has a personal SW card opened more than 2 years ago( with a credit of$49K). So we were trying for a business card for her, but she doesn’t have a business – we would try as a Sole Proprietor, per your site recommendations.
Thanks

Hey Dan,

In reference to the following portion of your post about the Citi Rewards+ Card:

“If you spend $1, you’ll earn 10 points! If you make a $0.50 Amazon balance reload you’ll also earn 10 points, which is equal to earning 20 points per dollar spent!”

Have you heard of any people having issues doing this over the last couple of years? Getting cards shut down because of too many tiny purchases? This seems like a very easy way to rack up points if you have time…

Thank you!

MG

Hi Dan,
If I currently have a regular Sapphire that was downgraded almost exactly two years ago from a Sapphire Reserve, can I just close that Sapphire and then apply for the Sapphire Preferred and be eligible for the bonus? I received the bonus for that Sapphire Reserve in 2016, but then kept it open as a Reserve for a bunch of years for the benefits until downgrading to a standard Sapphire two years ago. I’m wondering if it matters when I close the Sapphire in order to be eligible for the bonus, or I just need to not have a Sapphire currently AND not have received any Sapphire bonus within the last 48 months?
Thank you!
