Long Live The 3BM…

67

Applied last night for my latest round of churning (The Platinum charge card, the Premier Rewards Gold charge card, and the Delta Gold card, you’ll probably need to clear your cache+cookies or browse incognito/in-private to see those offers) and went to the status checker this morning to find them all approved even without having to call reconsideration.  Not bad for a single credit pull thanks to the good ole’ 3BM with IE, Firefox, and Chrome!  With these on top of my existing Starwood Consumer and Starwood Business cards I’m just waiting for the next Gift Chain/Twitter/Facebook/Foursquare/Small Business promotion to come along!

How do u only do 1 credit pull

Yet another Dan

Dan,
Are you getting the signup bonuses for the Platinum and Premium Rewards Gold cards? How many times can you get them, and how long do you have to have a closed card before getting the bonus again with Amex?

Hudi

How long was it between the 2 delta cards?

BEM684

Wow nice job! I did a 3BM two nights ago with Amex but only got one auto approval. I called about the other two and was told they were put on hold because I applied for 3 cards at once. I also used Firefox, Chrome, and IE. He explained that they sometimes put a hold on multiple apps to ensure that the person really wanted to apply for more than one card and didn’t accidentally send the same app twice. So I told him I really wanted to apply for 3 cards and he sent the remaining two to the application consideration department. Let’s hope it works out!

powerball

Dan,
Is the 3BM an a/a risk with Chase? I understand transferring UR points and having too much credit MAY be a trigger, but what about Churning and 3BM’s?

Dan

@Dan fan:
By applying in 3 browsers and clicking apply on all 3 as close to each other as possible.

@Yet another Dan:
The Platinum and Premier Gold cards can be done as many times as you want. There isn’t a time limit, but if you do it too soon (within 30 days or so) you are going to need to have them purge your recent applications so that it can process as a new application.

@Hudi:
It’s been a while since I’ve had a Delta card.

@BEM684:
Thanks and good luck!

@powerball:
Having too much credit compared to your stated income can be a risk, but I do 3BMs all the time (and have 10 currently active Chase cards and now 5 currently active AMEX cards in addition to many other active cards) and haven’t run into any issues to date, ba”h.

Hudi

@Dan: Thanks. Is there a difference bet. churning Delta and the other ones?

Dan

@Hudi:
I’ll find out soon 🙂

Yosef

dan i need to get the aa citi card but feel its a waste to just get one , what other 2 cards should i apply for 3bm from citi

Levi

Dan

I keep applying for cards, and they send me a letter in the mail saying that I applied for too many cards!
I have excellent credit.

Help! What do I do?

BEM684

@Yosef:

I’d recommend the Hilton HHonors card (no annual fee) and the TY Premiere card

sam

Dan,

What were the signup bonuses for the three cards you signed up for? I looked at these three cards on amex website and for the delta they are offering 10000 and for the other two there is no signup bonus showing on the offer at all.

If you have any links showing better offers please post them.

Thank you.

Hello

Hello,
I need your advice. I recently sent a payment through Amazon, not realizing that the recipient had already received $1000 for the month. The payment went through on my end successfully, my card was charged, and the recipient never received anything. Is it better to call Amazon about the problem or do I just dispute the charges through Chase?

Thanx a mil 4 ur help

mendel

dan i just got a exspress platinum .can i now aply for a gold in the same month to get the bouneses

sam

Dan,

Thanks for the response to clear the cache and cookies. I was just approved for the delta and premier gold card.

I just want to know if you have had any luck upping the signup bonus on either one of these cards thru a secure message on amex website?

Or if there is another way to get more points from them.

Thank you.

joe

is it confimed that with citi it also works?

Dan

@Hello:
Doesn’t make sense.
Either it went through and the recipient has the $1,000 or it didn’t go through at all.

@mendel:
Yes.

@sam:
Congrats!
I don’t know of folks having any luck with that of late.

@joe:
Yes.

Hello

I know it “Doesn’t make sense” but I rechecked it a few times. The recipient already had received $1000 for the month. For some reason Amazon let through another $500 (above the $1000) to that recipient. If I look at my records for that day it shows a transaction on Amazon & on my Chase account, but it does not show up in the recipient’s account. Should I call myself or let Chase take it up with Amazon?

Dan
Josh

Dan, were you ever FR’d?

Hello

Thanx.

Actually, I learned a good lesson, that you just have to double check everything.

Thanx 4 ur help.

ddf

Dan how many inquiries , do you have on your experian ? I have about 10 so im trying to hold off as i dont think i would be instantly approved.

mike fein

dan- I have attemtped 3bm with citi and they refuse to process more than 2 applications within 60 plus days. Can you kindly tell me when and which 3 citi cards you got with the 3bm ?

ESTHER12

Dan, what do you mean by them purging my recent applications? also, the best sign up bonus i see on amex cards, is the mercedez benz card. how come you didn’t apply for that one instead of the platinum card that has only 25k signup bonus?

hesh

Dan how come you don’t wait till the end of the year so u can get the douple airline giftcards on the platinum card?
Also how do cancel all these cards?

runnergirl

Dan you close out the accounts of the card before you churn them or will you them have for example 2 Amex Platinum Cards open at once? If the former, how long do you need to wait between clsoing an account and reopening one?

Dan

@Josh:
Yup, it’s not a big deal unless you make zero income on the books.

@ddf:
Credit card companies pull from different agencies in different states, but I’m sure I’ve got a ton of inquiries on all of them.

@mike fein:
Write to Ken Stork’s office.

@ESTHER12:
Call AMEX to have your recent apps cleared.
I haven’t heard if that card is churnable yet.

@hesh:
Who says I won’t wait?
You can cancel cards via secure message if you want.

@runnergirl:
I usually close them first. 30 days is usually good.

ESTHER12

Dan, the 3 cards you opened, are all those points “sellable” or are they for flying only?
also, when you say you’re not sure if the amex mecedez benz is churnable, do you mean that if i used to have that card open before but currently it’s closed, they might not approve me for another one?

Pyrate Baruch

Dan: The Platinum card has a 450 annual fee. Is that worth it for 25k points?

Dan

@ESTHER12:
Personally I use points for flying, though others do sell them.
Churnable means the ability to get the signup bonus again on the same card.

@Pyrate Baruch:
Consider what you get for the $450 on top of the bonus points:
-$400 of airline gift cards.
-Platinum card lounge access.
-Priority Pass lounge access.
-Waived Global Entry fee.
-No forex fees.
-Starwood Gold status.
-Lost item insurance.

Plus of course you can cancel within 60 days for a full refund or anytime after for a prorated $37.50/month refund.

Yosef

I want to open chase Hyatt card what other 2 would you recommend ( I currently don’t have any cards yet)

Dan

@Yosef:
United and Sapphire Preferred:

Does anybody know someone who helps people that need advice on the best course of action for a huge amount of credit card debt?

alce

I currently have chase business ink, sapphire preferred, freedom land contl now united. i would like hyatt and 2 others. what do u recommend. thanks

Chana

@dan, I’m an an avid visitor of your site but half the words and lingo I don’t understand. Have you ever considered giving a workshop? I live in ny, I’d love to help set one up. What you do is brilliant but I’m usually lost. Thanks 🙂

fischohen

is it really worth signing up for the three delta cards?gold/platinum/reserve card? like what benefits do these have that the amex platinum/gold and starwoods doesnt have?
can i cancel after i get my points to avoid paying annual fee?

CM

Dan: “Yup, it’s not a big deal unless you make zero income on the books.”

How about someone who has really low income say 12-15k?? I think it’s worth mentioning this to people as many are in such a situation and can run in to problems when they get FR’d….

Pyrate Baruch

Dan:

I don’t see the 400 in airline gift cards in the rewards section of that card. Can you please tell me what you are referring to?

Thanks

Dan

@alce:
You can try for Southwest and Sapphire Mastercard.

@Chana:
The thought has definitely crossed my mind.

@fischohen:
Some info here:

@CM:
They will cut your lines, but they likely won’t close you down.

@Pyrate Baruch:
$200 airline fee reimbursement per calendar year=$400 in gift cards, $200 in 2011 and $200 in 2012.

hesh

I assumed you cancel before 60 I guess u don’t
What does FR’d mean

orrin

Dan:
I don’t understand something (well….actually, a lot of things….but here is today’s dilemma:) Many of your respondents write “don’t ever close a card…merely reduce the credit limit, and switch it to a new card”. But after the ‘first year free’ for most cards, are you really paying all those annual fees? How do you ‘close’ a card, open multiple accounts without hurting your credit report/rating?
Thanks,
Orrin

yankel

Hey Dan,
Thanks for all your help!
I have now the sapphire pref, and united. I want to move on. What would you suggest I do? Should I shut them and reapply, or go for other cards?
Thanks!

boruch

Hey Dan,
Thinking about applying for the Starwood, Delta Gold and the PRG Card through 3bm. Just got a 50K (spend 1K in 3 months) PRG offer in the mail yesterday.

Elliot

Dan, @ years ago i applied for the amex starwoods card and got bonus points. ive cancelled that card (which was a mistake, i know) and now when i go apply again they tell me that i am not eligible for the bonus points because i have already received bonus points. any way around this?

Pyrate Baruch

Thanks for the advice Dan, but I think I will pass. I’ve already got a Citi AA and United card that waive baggage fees. United also has travel protection. Also, I have the Sapphire card that waives forex fees. All of this for first year waived annual fees on all of these cards.

Unless I am missing something, its really not worth it to spend 450 for the other stuff.

deal lurker

@pirate boruch
It doesn’t cost $450. Its prorated. Say yoi signup now an cancel in jan, you pay $37×8 months but you get valuable bonus points plus $400 AA gc’s plus tons of benefits.

Visit the forums for more info.

danbone7

Dan – do you have a link with specific info regarding the amex platinum gift card trick? Does this still work?

ESTHER12

Dan, the platinum charge card changed their sign up bonus from 50k to 25k points, is that so? is it still worth the hassle to open it and spend $2000 on it?

Chana

@Dan is there a way i can contact you privately?

smarty

Lol..the hassle to spend $2000 (that you will be spending anyway) to get 25K points……..priceless.

ESTHER12

dan, i applied for platinum and mercedez benz card in a 2BM. but only got approved for mercedez benz. they said they are both platinum cards and they can’t approve me for 2 platinum cards at once. any thoughts on this?
thanks

Dan

@ESTHER12:
Never tried 2 Platinums at once, sorry.

ESTHER12

Dan, when i opened my chase united card last month they never ended up giving me the bonus points since i didn’t create another mileage # and they said i already got the bonus once before. at this point, do i close the united card, wait 30 days and open it again with another mileage # or open it now while the other is still active?

Dan

@ESTHER12:
YMMV, but use a new number next time of course.

Hello

Hello,

Does it make a difference if I SM for a match for the MC Sapphire for 50K while the Visa Sapphire is still listed on my account (although closed), or should I wait until it falls off that they shouldn’t see that I had already received the promotion for the Sapphire?

Also, how do you qualify for an FR?!

Thanx

Dan

@Hello:
I don’t think they are matching to 50K, but that won’t affect it.

F/R is caused bu suspicious activity on an AMEX, like prepaying for purchases, using over half your available credit line, etc.

Hello

How about using Amazon to the max every month, does that trigger anything?

Dan

@Hello:
For just $1,000 probably not.
But if you use multiple amazon accounts and do say $8,000 a month that would be a trigger.

Hello

One more question. Who does the FR? the CC Company?

tlnl

Dan,
Can you walk us through the steps you take to churn a card?
I have dozens of open cards(thanks to you!) I got bonus miles on them and no annual fee. I thought I should keep them open until I am charged a fee. Most times if I try to open a card I had within the last year they do not give the bonus miles saying its for first time card holders only.
So if I opened say united card and got the bonus I should close it after 30-60 days and then wait 30 days and reopen?
Thanks for all your advice!

is14

@Dan: dan, whats the contact number of amex to purge my recent apps for cards that i cancelled already, and what do i tell them exactly?

Pyrate Baruch

@deal lurker:

Thanks but no thanks. I get waived baggage fees already from United and AA and don’t see how this card would ever be worth it for me. And, there are plenty of other cards to get rewards points without paying an annual fee.

MJLouise

Does he 3BM work with Barclay’s card? I’ve recently closed my US Air Barclay’s card when the ann fee came due, and wanted to try for another bonus in a month or two. Considering a 2 or 3 BM to get more than one card with one pull, especially everyone pulls from TransUnion in my neck of the woods.

Pyrate Baruch

Dan:

Citi has upped the rewards on AA credit cards to 50k miles. I saw the links on Flyertalk.

Will applying with a new AA Advantage number work to get the bonus miles since I previously churned these credit cards?

Thanks again.

PB

ESTHER12

what is YMMV?

MJLouise

Esther YMMV means your mileage may vary, or your results may be different than described here
