New point transfer terms go into effect tomorrow. Here’s what you need to know in short:
Points transfer to other Chase cards:
-On the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card today you can only transfer points to cards that belong to you or a spouse/domestic partner. This is enforced as Chase has been known to terminate accounts that transfer points to cards belonging to non-household members.
Tomorrow you will be able to transfer to cards that belong to you or one other member of your household. That member no longer has to be your spouse or partner.
-On the Ink Plus today you can only transfer points to cards that belong to you, a joint business owner, or a spouse/domestic partner. Tomorrow you will be able to transfer to cards that belong to you or an owner of the company, or one other member of your household. That member no longer has to be your spouse or partner.
Points transfer to other airline or hotel programs :
-On the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card today you can officially only transfer points to airline and hotel programs that belong to you or a spouse/domestic partner. However in practice this has not been enforced to date and people have been able to transfer to anyone.
Tomorrow you will be only able to transfer to cards that belong to you or one other member of your household that is an Authorized User on your account. Once you select one authorized user you won’t be able to change that selection (at least from that card). That member no longer has to be your spouse or partner, but this will likely end the ability to sell points to various third parties.
-On the Ink Plus today you can officially only transfer points to airline and hotel programs that belong to you, a joint business owner, or a spouse/domestic partner. However in practice this has not been enforced and people have been able to transfer to anyone.
Tomorrow you will be only able to transfer to cards that belong to you or an owner of the business who is an Authorized User on your account.
It’s unclear what will happen if there are multiple joint owners in the business, though the business terms do not state that the selection can’t be changed as the consumer terms do.
It seems like you will no longer be able to transfer points from the Ink Plus to household member’s airline/hotel accounts unless they are an owner in the business, though you can still transfer the points to one household member’s Chase cards.
It’s worth noting that you are able to transfer points between your own consumer cards and business cards.
You will need to reenter the mileage info and Chase card info when transferring or combining points once these changes go into effect tomorrow.

What I find annoying is having to re-enter my partner membership info into the UR site. Probably not as annoying as your lost baggage ordeal.
Will u still be able to sell chase ink points?
Dan do you think that there will be a way to work around the new policy to transfer Chase points to third parties?
of course, you will still be able to transfer them into a dummy united account to sell and the buyer can have access to that account.
Dan, so I can transfer from my ink to my freedom which my spouse is a au, and then I can transfer from our freedom to his ink. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks!

Not a problem with Chase. I could add any authorized user to my account. So if I am trying to sell points to Ching Chong for instance, I will add him to my Sapphire account as an AU, then transfer points to his hotel, airline or other Chase partner account.
@rangersin4: sure but what made UR more valuable was the ability for a buyer to deposit into his already full account. Say you need just 20k more for a redemtion…dummy account doesn’t fix that

An Ink card seems to give more options than other cards…
Just recently transferred UR points to an airline account not associated with my name and I received a warning letter from Chase that if this activity continues they will terminate my accounts with them.
@es21729 did transfer go through? How long afterward did u get letter?
@barry the transfer did go through. I received the letter about 2-3 weeks later.

So I assume there will be a devaluation of UR points now?.. If that’s the case, what would become the best card to accumulate points on that you would sell instead of redeem?.. TIA!
