Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Consumer Card

Limited time signup bonus:

For a limited time only, you can earn 100K Marriott bonus points for opening this card and spending $5,000 in 3 months.

Comparison to previous signup bonus:

The previous signup bonus on this card was 75K points for spending $3,000 in 3 months.

Annual fee:

There is a $95 annual fee, though the signup bonus and annual anniversary nights are worth well more than that.

Welcome bonus terms:

  • You won’t get the welcome bonus on this card if:
    1. You got a bonus on a Chase Marriott consumer card in the past 24 months.
    2. You have or had an active Starwood AMEX/Marriott Bonvoy AMEX Consumer card in the past 30 days.
    3. You were approved for any Starwood AMEX/Marriott Bonvoy AMEX card in the past 90 days
    4. You received a signup bonus for a Starwood Luxury/Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant AMEX or the Starwood Business/Marriott Bonvoy Business AMEX card in the past 24 months.

5/24:

All Chase cards are now subject to 5/24 restrictions. That means it will be hard to get approved if you have been approved for 5 or more consumer credit cards in the past 24 months. Read more about that here.

Note that the Chase system automatically counts cards like authorized user cards and store cards as cards that count towards 5/24, but if you explain to Chase that those cards are merely authorized user cards or store cards they can manually approve you for a new card.

You can check your credit report for free at the federally authorized annualcreditreport.com to check how many accounts are shows as being open in the past 24 months.

Card earnings:

  • 2 points per dollar everywhere
  • 6 Marriott points per dollar at Marriott hotels.
  • There are no foreign transaction fees.

Card protections:

  • Purchase protection covers items purchased up to $500 against theft or damage for 120 days.
  • Extended warranty protection adds an additional year on the manufacturer’s warranty.
  • Car rental CDW insurance covers rentals in the US on a secondary basis and rentals outside of the US on a primary basis.
  • Trip delay reimbursement covers $500/passenger for expenses due to delays of 12+ hours.
  • Lost luggage reimbursement covers luggage lost or damaged, up to $3,000/passenger.

Spend threshold:

You’ll need to spend $5,000 on this card within 3 months.

You can pay your federal taxes for a 1.87% fee. If you overpay your taxes you can request a refund or apply it to your next year’s taxes.

My local natural gas company allows me to prepay up to $1,000 on a credit card for a $1.65 flat fee. That’s a great way to earn miles and help meet a spend threshold. My electricity supplier allows me to pay with a credit card for free as long as I am enrolled in autopay.

Airline transfer bonus:

You can transfer increments of 60K Marriott points into 25K airline miles or 27.5K miles with United.

Additionally, airlines often have their own bonuses for hotel point transfers, which will stack on top of the Marriott bonus for transferring in 60K increments.

Marriott has dozens of valuable airline transfer partners, such as Aegean, Alaska, American, Qantas, and dozens more! Alaska’s miles are extremely valuable and hard to get, making this a great transfer option.

Premium internet access:

Cardholders get free premium in-room internet at Marriott hotels.

Elite status:

This card offers Silver Elite status, which gives 10% bonus points, late checkout, and more.

If you spend $35K/year you will earn Gold elite status, which gives 25% bonus points, late checkout, room upgrades, a points amenity on paid and award stays, and more.

You will also get 15 elite night credits for having the card. You can only get 15 night credits per year, regardless of how many different Marriott cards that you have.

Anniversary night:

You will receive a free night upon every card anniversary valid at hotels that cost up to 35K points. Anniversary nights can be worth several times the annual fee on this card! Anniversary nights expire 12 months after they post to your account.

These nights will work at category 1-4 hotels in all seasons and category 5 hotels during off-peak or standard seasons.

You can view all Marriott hotels with their point requirements here.

If you never use hotels, is there any value in this card over others?
Seemingly the 2 points per dollar on everyday spending would beat the freedom unlimiteds 1.5, no?

Yochai

The 2 points per $ are bonvoy points. The freedom 1.5 points are ultimate rewards points, which are worth much more.

YM

Thanks for clarifying. So basically, Iif I understand correctly, hotel usage is the real benefit of this card. If you don’t use hotels it is not really going to benefit you too much.

CtownBin

This is not true. These points transfer to a TON of mileage programs- for some, like Alaska (a great program) and American (not as good), this is the only decent transfer option. The signup bonus on this card is worth over 41,000 airline miles. Not a huge signup bonus but not horrible either, and since it’s the only way to get certain airline’s miles, it could be valuable just for that.

Shaul Morrison

2 Marriott point is only worth abut 2/3 of an airline mile, as Marriott points transfer to airlines at 60k:25k.

D

Would an upgrade bonus within last 24 mouths count as number 4 in list of things that disqualify you from receiving bonus?

chaz

this is a good signup bonus. you can get a decent place for lodging at 17.500 points per night in most major cities.which means 6 nights free after you achieve the minimum spend. marriott recently acquired the sheraton brand, the choice of hotels is rather large. go for it!

ehad

you can also add le Meridien N’fis Marrakech, Morocco which was a surprisingly unbelievable place, great service and great people downtown and 8 minutes ride from the airport we just tried it this past 1/11/19

ehad

sorry i meant 11/1/19

carlos

everytime i try use my marriot points I find nothing . Looking for two rooms or suite for family of 7 anywhere in-south Florida jan 29 to feb 4 2020 and nothing from Boca all way down to south beach

Jets jets jets

It’s because of the superbowl that’s in Miami those dates

chaz

hey carlos you need to change your search. look for a room that accommodates up to four,x2

Al

just signed up for the 75000 bonus, any chance of getting the 100k?

tova

Hi! Do the points expire? And is there any way these points could be transferred to any airline without losing so much of the value?

YB

Hey, if I am an authorized user on a Marriott Bonvoy Business card which received a welcome bonus, am I still eligible for this bonus? TIA
