The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey voted today to approve an AMEX Centurion lounge in Newark’s soon to open New Terminal A.
The current largest AMEX Centurion lounge is the 15,000 square foot JFK location, but it will be topped by an 18,000 square foot lounge in Newark.
AMEX opened a 10,000 square foot lounge in LaGuardia’s new Terminal B earlier this year, meaning that they will soon have a presence at all 3 major NYC metro airports.
United’s main operations are in Newark’s Terminal C, but they also have a presence in the current Terminal A and will have a large presence in the new Terminal A when it opens. United has a post-security bus that shuttles people between Terminal A and C, so you can take advantage of the lounge even if you’re flying from Terminal C without having to clear security again.
AMEX will spend $100 million building out the lounge and will lease the space starting next year for $121.5 million for a 15 year lease, with an AMEX option to renew for 5 more years.
The lounge will feature a viewing terrace overlooking the airfield, a piano lounge, a Jersey Jazz themed bar, wellness rooms, workstations, and a speakeasy themed backstage cocktail lounge.
AMEX Business Platinum cardholders and AMEX Consumer Platinum cardholders can access Centurion lounges for free with 2 guests. Delta Reserve cardholders can access Centurion lounges for free when flying on a Delta flight purchased on their Reserve card. Note that effective 2/1/23 those cards won’t come with free guests unless you spend $75K/year or pay $50 for adults or $30 for kids.

Do you have to fly United to take advantage of the shuttle from terminal A to C?
No, but why else would you go from A to C?
Can you pass through with clear in terminal C and take shuttle to terminal B when flying elal?
I don’t think the airside bus goes to B, but please correct me if I’m wrong.

EWR has three terminals: Terminal A, B, and C. Find the location of your airlines here.
There are three ways of transferring between terminals:

Take the AirTrain
The AirTrain system operates between all passenger terminals. For journeys between terminals, it’s free.
To make your connection, follow signs for AirTrain. You will need to clear through TSA security once you arrive in your departure terminal. Real-time TSA wait times are available here.

For international arriving passengers, you must claim all checked bags at Customs and recheck with your departing airline, even if the bags are checked to your final destination!
United Airlines Shuttle Bus

Between Terminals (United Airlines Connections)
United Airlines operates a shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 5:00am to 10:00pm. In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminal B to Terminals A and C from 10:00am to 10:00pm. The shuttle bus is available at gate A28, B67, and C70 as illustrated in the image above. This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.
