The US State Department has just raised their warning for all travel abroad to level 4. They recommend that Americans avoid all travel abroad.

Airlines are very likely to start reducing or cancelling nearly all international flights to and from the US, so if you do want to fly back to the US you should make arrangements to do so now.

The US State Department warns, “In countries where commercial departure options remain available, U.S. citizens who live in the United States should arrange for immediate return to the United States, unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.”

Are you abroad currently? Will you try to fly home before flights may come to an end?

You can discuss coronavirus and how it’s affecting your life on the dedicated COVID-19 board on DDF here.

Do you think United will offer cash refunds if they cancel international flights, or only a credit for future travel? How can I position best myself to get a cash refund?

Lubaby

United’s latest update to their schedule change policy is, in the event of your international flight being changed by more then 6 hours, or cancelled, you get a credit for 12 months from when the ticket was booked.
If after 12 months, you have been unable to use the credit, you can request it be refunded to you.

When does this go into effect and if someone is coming home Sunday from Israel is that going to be a problem?

DR

there’s nothing that will take effect. the government isnt cancelling flights. airlines would, use common sense.

Eretz Yisroel.

Eretz Yisroel is doing much better than every country with containing this situation, It is much safer staying there now if they have a place to stay, The Lubavitcher Rebbe said many times that Eretz Yisroel is the safest place.

Closing borders coming soon probably.

Over the Atlantic now after Jordan airport closed and flying to Istanbul for a few days… just in time I guess

Will domestic flights be grounded?

I happen to be abroad (central America) I do not feel returning home is any better than remaining where I am. This being said, there is much to take into account and part of my decision hinges on where I would like to be potentially stuck for a while, and returning to a large city like Denver on a lockdown versus a beautiful country side type place, to me seems like a no brainier (assuming other things such as good hospitals and police force are available in both…). Even more so if it’s impossible to leave, which for many is currently the case…

I think you have a higher tolerance for risk than I do. I cut my trip to Cuba short last week, missing out of the remaining week of my 1-month stay. There was no way I was staying in a country where I cannot get cash from an ATM.

Dan, it seems as if United has changed its international travel cancellation policy. I have a screenshot from last week where they say you can rebook/freeze for no charge and if you don’t use the credit after a year you’ll get a full refund. Now their website is much more strict. Any suggestions on how I go about dealing with this with them?

Hey Dan,
Do you think ticket prices will skyrock after this crisis (hopefully soon iyh)?

On a JetBlue flight now JFK to FLL. 3 flights on this route were cancelled today. Still, only about 10% occupancy. I can’t see this being sustainable.
