According to google analytics 53% of ctownbochur.com readers use firefox, while 43% use IE.
My only question is why do so many of you guys still use IE???
I don’t even understand now can you surf the internet without tabbed browsing, and I won’t even get into the other firefox features like the incredible live bookmarks(try it yourself for ctownbochur.com-it’s awesome!!!) and the integrated search engine feature

-Because you like using a browser prone to adware/spyware/pop-ups/viruses, etc?
-Because you dont like browsers that allow to surf the web faster?
-Because you like viewing a distorted version of ctownbochur.com?

Or probably because 43% of you are just too lazy too download firefox, (now 7% of you still connect via dial-up so I have a whole different issue with you guys!)

Anyway, Click here to get on the boat and download Mozilla Firefox for free right now!

could be most of them are using avant browser, which is better than Mozilla by far.
its a ie shell (front) so you dont have to download any plugins, and forms actually work.

try it out, and post your thoughts. i guarantee you will like it better than Mozilla

Anonymous

try Maxthon it has more features than any browser (a lot of Microsoft employees use it). besides, there are some security holes in firefox and they dont send out fixes until they have a whole new version.

Anonymous

Dan now you know why 43% stick with what they have.

There Are just too many options out there each conviced that theirs is the best!

Explorer is the most popular. …it cant be ALL bad.

Check out Explorer 7

so how much is firefox paying to spread their browser? 🙂 😛

internet explorer is simple, firefox as someone mentioned earlier has to many options, its not being lazy, but when you get used to something thats good, why get rid of it?

anyway, you got me curious: what is “Live Bookmarks”?

Anonymous

Just to see how it works I tryed out the avant explorer. for those of you that are wondering, it’s not worth your time if you have firefox.

What About AOL browser?

Avant is much better than firfox because of the no plugins.

It’s an IE based browser that has tabs and all the perks

Dan says,
I haven’t downloaded avent yet, but from what i can tell it still wont have the advantage of being a standalone browser like firefox, therefore will be more susceptible to security problems…

Dan says,
Ha…I wish firefox would pay for downloads, alas all they do is track where the downloads come from…

I don’t find firefox any more “complicated” then IE, what exactly do you mean by that?

If something is good why get rid of it?
Because there’s something better, that why!

Also, granted Firefox may take 2-3 seconds to open, but its faster than IE once it is going, so that makes up for it!

Click on the live bookmarks link i provided to read up on it and see pictures…then sign up for a ctownbochur.com live bookmark by going to ctownbochur.com in firefox and clicking the orange logo at the right side of the address bar!

Dan says,
You must be part of the 7% that still uses dial-up.
I feel sorry for you, i really do!

Anyway why would you pay over $20/month for dial-up when DSL can be had for less than that? Or are you just tied to an AOL email address?

Dan says,
Maxthon looks interesting, i will check it out!
However firefox does automatically send out fixes, and IE’s security problems are far worse than firefox’s

Dan says,
I will when it’s done with beta testing, however it looks like they just copied firefox’s best features, but will still have security problems as it is just another Micro$oft product…

hey dan, I have cable and I use aol explorer. I love it. its quicker than IE

Anonymous

Yahoo toolbar now includes tabbed browser.

Regards from Cleveland!

Dan

Toolbars, ugh…

ok here’s the deal, i have tried aol browser (comes with aim titan, i dont use either anymore, gtalk) and ie7 (u might like flock, another version of firefox) there’s just 1 reason i need, to use ff, (although there are many reasons, security etc.)—-EXTENTIONS!!!! (same for flock) since it’s open source, anyone can make an extention, and boy do they, go to tools, extensions and click get more extentions, search for greasemonkey (amazing) hcalender (put’s the hebrew date on the browser, or whatever else you may want! yes ie7 has copied ff with the tabs, but can u put in an extention that make’s each tab a different color? (search for, colorful tab’s) how about putting a weather forcastor in the browser? (forecastfox) how about editing any website you go to, and keeping it that way every time you visit? (platypus, works as greasemonkey script’s) and that’s NOT EVEN THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG!!!!!

Oholei torah'nik

is firefox faster then AOL dile-up

Anonymous

what kind of question is that? ff is a browser. ie. it dosnt “give” u an internet connection, it just uses the one you have. tecnically you can use ff when you are using aol dial up. u are takeh a real ot’nik

Dan

I had no idea when i posted this seemingly innocent stat that it would bring out so much passion amongst my readers!
At any rate i’m pleased to report that since i posted this, google shows only 35% of unique visitors of ctownbochur.com to be using IE…
For the last 2 days:
1. Firefox 56.50%
2. Internet Explorer 35.65%
3. Netscape 3.53%
4. Safari 1.57%
5. Opera 1.05%
6. Camino 1.05%

Zevy

Hey All,
Try Opera browser it has a lot of built in features that you wont find in firefox or IE. If you do use firefox try the mouse gestures add on, and if you’re a pro try the web developers add they kick butt (you find much use for web developers add on if you don’t know what you are doing). Hacking is my hubby so I have all browsers installed on my on my computer. The worst part of IE is the security, it is very very vulnerable.

Isn’t the problem with Firefox that there are some sites that don’t work well with Firefox?

Dan

There are a couple sites, but they are few and far between, i cant even think of one of them offhand…

Anonymous

I’m with you Dan all the way. For some reason some people are diehard IE supporters. I tried to get a number of people to make the switch, and convinced a few, but most seem to be afraid to try something new (how else could it be explained? I can’t imagine going back to an untabbed browser…)

Dan

Well since this post FF is at 60% of unique visitors and IE is down 10 points to 33%!

Anonymous

when i first started using ff there were a lot of sites that didnt work with it, but now almost all sites work with it. for instance, the amex site used to not work with it.

Sultan Knish

I have Firefox myself and it’s handy for some things but it has its downsides and mainly I use IE

1. Firefox freezes up for a second on startup, it’s a little thing but an annoying delay I don’t need

2. far more sites work better with IE than with Firefox

3. IE may currently have more security problems but that’s only because it’s much more popular, as Firefox becomes popular it will become a target

4. my pop up blocker stops pop ups in IE much better than anything in Firefox does

5. I can switch smoothly from browsing my hard drive to the internet in one window, while firefox’s file browser is ugly and lacking compared to windows explorer

6. I’ve seen too many trendy ‘stop microsoft and adopt XYZ’ come and go to pay too much attention to this one. Sorry.

Dan

1. Like i said earlier, it may take 2 seconds longer to open, but it loads web pages faster once it is open, making those 2 seconds a moot point.

2. Far more? Most blogs work much better with FF, i know i spend a lot of effort trying to make enhancments IE compatible, while FF never gives me problems. How many web sites do you go to already that dont work with FF?

3. Thats ridiculous imho, the fact is all security experts agree that right now FF is far more secure, so why shouldn’t you take advantage of that just because “it will become a target?”

Joe

To the user complaining that some sites don’t work with firefox. I am a web developer and these days we are forced to test all sites we create with IE and Firefox it is a basic standard. Other developers do the same, because of the fact that so many users us Firefox. So don’t worry 99% of site work beautifully with Firefox, as matter of fact many sites work better with FireFox then with IE.
