The outbound flight is a regular nonstop from Newark to Tel Aviv.

The return flight is from Tel Aviv to Washington DC but notice that it connects in Newark.  By law all checked baggage coming in on flights from abroad must be claimed at baggage claim and brought past customs officials before you can recheck them.

You can just take the tags off your bag in Newark and nobody is going to force you to fly to Washington DC.

This is called hidden city ticketing, and of course the airlines don’t love that.  And airline reps will probably lie to you and say that your bags will go straight to Washington DC. even though they will not.  They will be tagged to Washington DC., but everyone has to pick them up in Newark.

Where are the $300 fares???

lb

ewr to tlv not working 11-25 to return 12-4

Dan

@lb:
Works fine for me on Priceline.

Jay

Dan is there anything for october?

hsb

Thanks Dan!
Which rental car company or agency do you recommend for car rental in Israel?

Dan

@Jay:
Not at these prices.
Use ITA to search for flex dates.

@hsb:
People have sent me good feedback about Noach, http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/19509

Frankly though the car rental process in Israel is dreadful.

I got the same fare using Boston to Tel Aviv on Delta starting Nov. 30. Boston is closer to NYC than Washington.

@Dan:
I’ve had good experiences with Tamir Rent a Car. They wait for you at the arrivals with a sign with your name, you fill out the paperwork while sitting at one of the cafe tables in the airport, and best of all, you do not see anyone upon return – you just park in the Vineyard כרם parking lot, leave the keys & parking stub in the trunk, and off you go!

I’ve rented with them many times, and never had any issue with them “making up” scratches on the car, or any other unexpected charges.

Their prices are competitive, but they charge you one price that includes insurance, and will not let you get a cheaper rate even though your Chase card (or others) now cover rental insurance in Israel.

Also, since their base is in Netanya, their minimum rental is one week. I’ve tried to rent from them for 3 days, and they wouldn’t do it, even though their site lists daily prices.

Anyone know which flights are OK for Kohanim?

Yoel

You think the reps intentionally lie or are misinformed themselves ?

PghTown

One caveat on the hidden city ticket- if you get rerouted on the return by the airline (e.g. mechanical issues) you might not have a connection through your intended arrival city. In your example, if you get rerouted on the return from Tel Aviv through Europe (if there is a problem with the EWR flight from TLV), then you may end up in Washington. Worth the risk for a big price difference, but not for small change

Dan

@PghTown:
You don’t have to accept a rerouting. You can always just wait for the next United flight (and all United flights from TLV go to Newark)

Akiva at Sabra had got me this last week. Old news

Dave

can you use mileage for this price?

Howard

A sort of unrelated question: I want to book a US Air round trip PHL to TLV, but I must have increased leg room (exit row or bulkhead). Their hone agents tell me they won’t assign those till the day of the flight. Does anyone have a suggestion for getting it assigned at the time of booking?

Zac

Dan,

Any deals for ElAl biz class? Or can I book this ticket and pay for an upgrade?

@Raquel: a little late to arrive Friday @215 in January, especially in case of a delay…

nanach

if I skip the last leg will i still earn the miles for the flights that I did fly?

Ma

Thanks Dan for the great info. How long do you think these prices will last?

Menachem Gestetner

Can I intentionally miss the second leg after the layover in Switzerland on the way there for a few days?

PraiseCanada

How do you find hidden city tickets?

Who finds these deals?

Avi

Dan, any chance Delta would be matching this?

FT

@Menachem Gestetner:
feel free to miss the rest of the legs if you are going to Switzerland with just hand luggage…
but don’t be surprised if you have to buy a walk-up fare from ZRH…

Nathan

Will United credit miles for TLV-EWR if the leg to WAS is not flown?

Bites

How do I get rid of the annual gee on my aa platinum? Are there any lower grade cards within the aa club?

jack

@Dan:
would you consider this a cheap ticket?

JR

Need to be in Israel from end of Sept – Mid October. Of course, flight prices suck this time of yr.

david

why book on priceline if the airlines’s website gives the same price and u could use PRG to make 3 MR/$? could anyone explain please? thanks

Dan

@david:
You get 3x for PRG on priceline because they pass the charge through to the airline.
And you get more time to cancel.

Uriel

I’ve tried this hidden city tip using both Priceline and ITA, and I can’t find fares anywhere near this good for either El Al or United (I’m looking to travel NYC/TLV from 2/15 to 3/1 with flexibility at both ends). Best I can find is ~$930.

Have rates gone that far up in the past couple of days?

Eliza

Hi,is the deal $864 from NYC with ElAl still is on? What are deals would you suggest for month of November?
