Redeem Your Delta Or AMEX Points For 2 Cents Each When You Book A Vacation Package!

Delta miles are typically worth about 1 cent each, though they can be worth much more during flash sales. For example earlier this year I flew to Amsterdam in DeltaOne Suites for 98K miles round-trip instead of $12,000 during a flash sale, a value of 12.2 cents per mile. But that’s the exception to the rule.

I value my AMEX points at about 1.5 cents each, so this is a good deal for those points as well.

  • Delta miles are normally 1 cent each towards vacation packages, but they’re worth 2 cents each if you book by 11:59pm EDT on 8/30.
  • A minimum 2 night hotel stay is required.
  • You can redeem up to 999,999 miles.
  • You will earn Delta miles for your flight as this will be considered a paid flight instead of a mileage flight.
  • You can redeem miles for part or all of a package.
  • If you cancel your reservation, miles will not be redeposited into your SkyMiles account. The SkyMiles account holder will receive a Delta Vacations voucher for the value of the miles at the time of they were applied to the booking as payment.

For example a flight from JFK to Tel Aviv from 1/12-1/16 and 3 nights at the Waldorf Jerusalem will run $2,347.84. You can use miles at a value of 2 cents each, so 117,392 miles would cover the flight and the hotel, plus you’ll earn Delta miles for the flight:

How good of a deal is that?

If you just wanted to redeem miles for the flight without the hotel you would need 144K miles+$49 and you wouldn’t earn miles for that flight!

A flight from JFK to Las Vegas from January 28-30 and 2 nights at the Encore by Wynn will cost 27,804 miles, plus you’ll earn miles for the Delta flight:

The same flights without the hotel in main cabin will run 24.5K miles+$11.20 without a hotel:

Is there a charge when transferring amex to delta?

Yes, it is $6 for every 10,000 miles transferred.

So essentially I can buy a delta gift card (voucher) by booking and canceling right away for .02 per mile?

This will give me hours worth of fun while I research a couple of trips. Thanks.

Until when does this promo go on for?

Offer expires August 30, 2019 at 11:59 PM Eastern time.

Is it worth it to transfer Chase UR points to Delta for this?

I’m seeing some packages to Las Vegas that include the price of the flight also?

Be careful. It seems like there is a cancellation fee, even of cancelled same day.

What’s the fee?

I know this sounds crazy but if I use this promotion for only the flight and have no intention of checking into the hotel will they cancel my return flight if I don’t check into the hotel?

“If you cancel your reservation, miles will not be redeposited into your SkyMiles account. The SkyMiles account holder will receive a Delta Vacations voucher for the value of the miles at the time of they were applied to the booking as payment.”
Can a “Delta Vacations” voucher be used for a “flight-only” purchase?

just got off the phone with them, and there is a cancellation fee any time and you can’t you the Delta Vacations voucher for flights only

How much is the cancellation fee?

AMAZING!!! Thank you! Just booked for YK

U did?

I think that DL is feeling the DD effect. Their vacation package site was working fine last night, and today it keeps erroring out.

possible to take hotel for part of the trip?

Yes, but you need to call Delta vacations for that. Their number is 800-800-1504.

Be very careful to compare package prices to booking separately. I’ve done a few searched for European destinations in January, and the combined pricing is sometimes much much higher than booking separately, to the extent that it almost extinguishes any savings from this promotion.

It would appear the ‘promo’ is a sucker promo. I found airfare and hotels in LAS and ATL are much cheaper when booking separately. Delta is being a ‘sport’ when they charge me 25,000 miles for a R/T ticket to Las Vegas, when I can book it for $250 or so JFK/LAS.

The hotels can be found much cheaper if you know the discount sites to shop.

Some deal?? WTF.

Texas Totty

What’s the least amount of miles I can use for a package? I don’t have that many.

Does the Waldorf include breakfast?

You can purchase the travel insurance delta offers if you want to cancel, and then you will get your payment back in the form of a delta vacations gift voucher… So I ended up spending about 95k points on a package including the $180 charge for the insurance. (You can use the miles to over the insurance charge), I can now cancel the booking and get back $1,700 in the form of a voucher valid for 1 year.. Not a bad redemption I think..

Can it be used just for flights or does it need to be thru Delta vacation

If booking the waldorf through delta vacation packages does the breakfast come with it?

Can u depart From Israel?

If you do choose to use the hotel, do elite benefits and status apply?

This is great…but I dont want to spend shabbos at the hotel. Cant separate the return flight…maybe just eat the extra days

Chezky B.

Tnx Dan
I just booked JFK to TLV for lag bomer May 10 to May 14 Delte One +2 nights in the crown plaza Jerusalem +trip protection so I have free cancelation till takeoff for 213k miles.

Trip protection allows you to cancel w/o penalties for any reason? If you do have to cancel with trip protection do you get your points back or a voucher and if voucher how long is it good for? Thanks

I booked a Delta first for 2 in December with Waldorf and put on a 24 hr hold. Meanwhile I Transferred from Bonvoy. What do I do if the points don’t get there by tommorow? Can I somehow extend the hold not to lose the deal and the reservation?

Thinking of doing the same but was worried they wouldnt transfer in time. About how long did they take?

2-3 days

Is there anyway to use a Delta Companion Pass with this deal?

Nope, I asked.

Julia Ferrier

dan, do you know offhand if anyone got that 15% bonus from qantas stacked with the 44% promo if they were targeted. i was targeted for 15% but did not get both if you can kindly advise thanks

This offer has been extend to september?

Good deal if used for 2 ppl.

yehuda zev

do you mind telling me what a klm flight operated by delta means? is it a delta flight or klm flight? i am trying to figure this out on wheretocredit.com whats the best mileage program to credit to? certain mileage programs give more for klm flights then delta flights./ the whole mish of 2 airlines throws me off and makes it confusing? thank you

If I miss the inbound flight, will that affect my hotel stay?

mitch k
